  1. Same. same. Though, now I have access to my grades, missing work, and assignments online...................

To that end, you're never too old to go back to school. It's uncomfortable, fo sho, but it's been rewarding to not fail Chemistry (so far). Kinda eye opening that my brains and personality are not set and that my job isn't just beach museum. Who knows.

    1. Back in the college days, I always enjoyed interacting with the SOTAs (Students Older Than Average), whether it was GI Bill, second career, later start, or whatever. They added a different perspective on things/life. If the price was right, I'd definitely enjoy the challenge of going back again.

      1. If you're interested, you might want to look into community colleges. Every state is vastly different in how they run community colleges, and how much funding/support they get, but the Community College I teach at here in California all classes are $54 per unit.

        1. …… ….. communist California…… ……

I kid, I kid. The reluctance to make education a priority in my state is evident in how much community college costs. Ugh.

      2. When I was undergrad in CSci/Math, Reagan fired all the air-traffic controllers, many of whom went back to college. Needless to say, while my cohort was partying, these dudes were hitting the books hard.

        1. When I went to seminary at 47, a pastor friend told me, "You will find that your expectations of yourself are much higher than your professors' expectations of you." That turned out to be true.

          1. Turns out you can’t go to the experience and perspective store.

I hold myself to such a high standard that dr. Z was like, take it easy on yourself for missing a couple points dude. Yeah, still pissed that I just didn’t carry the charge right in lab.

    2. My household goes up to two students starting in the fall. I just accepted an admission offer. Maybe the Poissonnière can help me with my homework.

        1. MS in Information (Science), with particular interest in the ethics of data use in higher education and the use of information as power networks within organizations.

  2. Ahem.

If you meet the residency and age requirements of the SCEP, you may audit courses free of charge, or take classes for credit at $10 per credit[!!!]. This applies whether you are degree-seeking, or non-degree.

  3. I have been struggling to decide if I should usher again this year. On the one hand, I enjoy it quite a lot, the extra cash doesn't hurt, it gives me the chance to get out and see people and socialize (something my fully remote job does not), and it's good physical exercise. On the other hand, it's a lot of games and a big time commitment and the wife and I have a lot we'd like to do this summer. Anyway, I have to submit my availability for April by the end of the day and I've decided to give it another go. Now I've got three weeks to get into shape for the season. Time to put on my walking shoes.

    1. Last year on this day I had a free pass to the Math Museum in NYC. Probably the best way I'll ever celebrate the holiday.

  4. For those that are board game inclined - Gamefound just launched a new project for Baseball Highlights 2045: Bases Loaded edition.
I've played Baseball Highlights 2045 a long time ago and recalled I liked it, but ended up trading it away because it wasn't getting as much play as I hoped. However, I'm seriously considering backing this project as it includes all the expansions that have come out for it and includes some new stuff.

Check it out. (Sorry, don't have a link at this time)
