April 24, 2024: Cast Of Characters

Oh man, that was a great basketball game last night. I love this team so much. Trying hard not to get too excited cuz Phil is a bummer (though that's my default Minnesota sports setting), but it's been a great start so far.

  1. So far, in between work, we've visited Colonial Williamsburg, and today we're checking out the American Revolution Museum in Yorktown. We also took a little trip through William & Mary College. Quaint little town; too bad they failed at street layouts.

  2. I really don't mean to be harshing anyone's joy here - it's all just self-preservation! - and I've been enjoying the heck out of this run too! Last night was perfect - it was close, there were struggles, I anticipated a tight game to the end... and then suddenly they were pulling away with it and I just got to enjoy it instead of stress about it. That was beautiful.

  3. I had to miss it because I went to see Jinjer at The Rave, which is about two miles from Fiserv. Thankfully the Bucks got run out of the gym so everyone apparently left early and we didn't have to worry about any traffic issues after.

  4. This is my favorite Timberwolves team. The Cassel team was fun but felt like it was just a couple hired mercenaries.

    1. At the time, we (fans) were pretty desperate to get any help available for KG. I don't get much chance to watch basketball these days, but in theory I like the way the Wolves are set up. Given how much Wolves fans have had to suffer over the years, I like the idea of achieving success with a team that makes the other team suffer by shutting down their (sometimes high-priced) offensive weapons.

I can also say that I liked the Conley trade (at least I liked it better than bS!) when they made it.

      1. I didn't see it coming but I can't even think of the second best trade in Timberwolves history after the Conley trade.

The Wolves need to get the ownership figured out fast and make sure they can keep Connelly.

        1. I think its the Gobert trade and I'm also willing to call that the best trade in team history with the Conley trade being second. The only reason I'd give the latter trade the upper hand is because DLo was such a negative locker room presence and sooooooooo bad on defense. Gawd, what a terrible player.

          1. The Gobert trade has worked out but was definitely high risk. If things had fallen apart, they'd be giving up a lot of high draft picks. Giving up picks in the twenties make the trade a win.

      2. Yea, he has been way more impactful than I ever imagined.

I wasn't high on the Rudy trade either. But Conley makes Rudy so very much better.

    1. Considering the vast difference in resources, it has to be much easier to be a successful front office for the West Coast Yankees than for the Rays. If you make a bad decision, or something doesn't work out, just throw more $$ at it and everything's better.

  5. I gave up smoking 22 years ago today. It’s amazing how the first 3-5 years it remains difficult for much of the time, and then somehow eventually gets to the point where it feels like something I must have seen someone do, because smoking sure doesn’t seem like a decision I would have made.

    1. “If you look up my ejections, you’ll see Bobby Cox multiple times, Ron Gardenhire and I a lot," he said. ”People don’t realize that Ron Gardenhire is just a stubborn German like me and after we might have a situation, we like to have a cold beer and talk about it."

  6. I don't understand why New Orleans doesn't start every game against OKC by having Valanciunis ramming it down Chet's throat repeatedly until he's in foul trouble or OKC double teams.

Chet's a shot blocker, rebounder, and offensive threat. But Valanciunis just overpowers him down low.

Because not running the offense through Valanciunis obviously isn't working.

    1. 32 point loss. Does it really matter? It’s a 14point loss instead? Without Zion, Pels ain’t gonna do much.

            1. CJ averaged 20/4.3/4.6 during the season. Ingram averaged 20.8/5.1/5.7.

Those are hefty numbers. And they have three more starters averaging double figures even without Zion.

The Pels have a really solid starting five. Without Zion, their bench is thin.
