June 19, 2024: Giant

In order to excel, you must be completely dedicated to your chosen sport. You must also be prepared to work hard and be willing to accept constructive criticism. Without one-hundred percent dedication, you won't be able to do this.

  1. Philosofette's cousin's husband passed early yesterday morning. That doesn't sound close, but hey moved to the area about 3 years ago and their 2 daughters are very close to my 2 oldest kids - they're basically like cousins instead of 2nd cousins. He was just 48. Complications after a heart attack. He and I are very different people, and we didn't often socialize, but this is really throwing me for a loop. Hug your loved ones, citizens. And don't wait to tackle those things you've been meaning to do.

    1. Sorry to hear of your family's loss, that's way too young. I sometimes take for granted the good outcomes I've had from my cardiac procedures. Things like this remind me that I shouldn't.

      1. Yeah, they actually sent him home after his initial stay in the hospital, which I thought meant he was probably in the clear. Obviously that wasn't the case. I just assumed good outcomes too, but it really isn't guaranteed.

    1. Hey, I’m going too, in first row, stage left. Come say Hi if on floor.

Also so you know, second set is JJ doing a theatrical bit in a whole different persona.

      1. Nice! I think we're in the balcony, but if I get down there I'll yell "FREE!" a few times. 🤣

I haven't connected much with the new music, but I think I'll enjoy the theatrical version of it.

(Playing random songs and You Can't Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want) came on and, goodness, a bop.)

  2. Happiest songs?

  3. Greetings from Iceland!

    A few notes for bjhess:
-We ended up not bring a down layer and haven't needed it all. Someone coming from a warmer state might need it more than a Minnesotan.
-Most days my boys are wearing sweatpants, a long or short sleeve shirt, and a sweatshirt. Hats and gloves also when it's chilly.
-Yesterday was our first rainy day, and I found that my hiking boots were not as waterproof as I would have liked, which resulted in damp feet. My rain jacket likewise left me slightly damp. I would have liked either wool mittens/gloves or something waterproof for my hands because my fingers got pretty chilly while we did a glacier hike/ice cave visit.

The scenery is absolutely stunning everywhere we go!

      1. That one isn’t on the agenda, but we’ve been to 4 other geothermal pools so far including the Forest Lagoon in Akureyri, the Myvatn Nature Baths.

Haven’t seen any puffins yet, but we’re hoping to see some in the Westman Islands later today/ tomorrow.

      1. It’s super disorienting! It’s light out when we go to bed and light out when we wake up. It’s really easy to lose track of time and not realize how late it is. (Particularly consequential when traveling with kids and having to be packed up and ready to go between 8 and 9 every morning.)

When we were in Isafjordur, the sun was listed as both setting and rising at 1:15 am.

That said, it was awesome the other night when I wanted to hike a trail alongside a waterfall at about 8:30 pm and didn’t have to worry about getting down before nightfall!
