    1. My folks say that st.peterville will have all its bridges closed today. They’ll have to take long way to the big city of ‘kato.

  1. First R rated movie? Hmmm. I think that would have been Dirty Harry, and I would have been about 13 or 14 years old.

        1. I think mine was The Terminator. I was probably too young because the stop motion terminator at the end gave me nightmares. The Bauble just watch his first, Fury Road in preparation for joining me when we went to see Furiosa.

        2. I'm going to guess that was mine too. Life of Brian and Meaning of Life were probably in there, along with Lethal Weapon and Die Hard. That would all have been about the same time frame, 8th - 9th grade.

I just showed Aquinas Blues Brothers the other night. Might well have been his first R-rated movie.

      1. I'm pretty sure mine was Blazing Saddles, my friend and I had to get notes from our parents saying it was okay for us to see it.

    1. Eraser at a drive-in theater. It was the second feature after viewing Twister during a tornado watch (or warning? I don't remember if a siren went off or not).

      1. I don't remember what mine was, but I remember the circumstances. I was with my girlfriend, who was a year ahead of me. Apparently I wasn't old enough. She had to act as my "guardian." Oof.

        1. The lady selling tickets knew our family. She asked if my parents said I could see the movie, and I had her call my mom to verify it was okay. Benefits of small town living. And a liberal-minded mother.

    2. My memory tells me my first R-rated movie was Shoot to Kill starring Tom Berenger, Sidney Poitier, and Kirstie Alley.
However, I also remember visiting my dad who had satellite TV and watching Fatal Attraction. I don't remember the naughty parts, but that boiled bunny sure freaked me out at that age.

    3. Seems a good time to plug my friend's newsletter, R-Rated Movie Club. His first post was The Blues Brothers (/cc joe).

Basically this is cross pollination of theology (he's a Methodist pastor) and R-rated movies. Though I think that he's going to start sprinkling in some "R-rated movies with the kids" sorts of posts. He watches a ton of R-rated movies with his kids, and has lots of good strategies about doing that.

    4. I saw parts of The Shining when I was six. Saw Basic Instinct with my mom when I was 11. I might have seen Beverly Hills Cop or Lethal Weapon before that.

  2. Hey Cheaptoy, a hardcore/metal/punk bar opened a few blocks away from me and I'd like to check it out sometime. I have no clue about any of the bands. Here's a link to their upcoming line-up. Any familiarity with any of these bands and ones to check out (or more importantly... avoid?)

    1. The only band I'm familiar with out of that is Nervosa, and I like them quite a bit. Very thrashy death metal. That night looks like a very thrash-heavy show, which would be fun. Unfortunately I've not heard of any of the rest.

      1. Thanks, that's helpful. I think I'm around for that Nervosa show. May just try a shows sometime if I'm bored. It's a 5-minute walk and the cover is typically $15. Easy to bail if I want.

      1. My wife and I were trying to decide what to call that color. We settled on manila folder.
