I mentioned earlier that there were nearby places vibrating with cicadas, but seemingly none in my neighborhood. Well, I guess they were late risers because there's a symphony of them around here now.

Last night I filled in on public address for the Oahe Zap. They're the local entry in the Independence League, a summer wood bat league for small college players. I've done plenty of public address, but this was the first time I did one that had in-game reads and sponsorships ("That walk is powered by Richie Z's! Richie Z's, your place to eat in Pierre!"). I don't expect it to be more than a one-off, I don't even know that I want it to be--that would be a pretty substantial time commitment for two months in the summer. But I had a lot of fun doing it last night.
I'm seeing claims that Jimmy Carter has died.
He was easily out greatest ex-president (and, I think, history is slowly reassessing his presidency to have been decent, in both senses).
Aaand it appears to have been a false claim.
WTF? Who gets their kicks on social media by putting out images of fake news releases?
Yup, these days, I'm waiting for multiple confirmations before I reach out to others to say "did you see that xxxx happened?"
Noam Chomsky agrees with this.
Noam is still alive?!?
I certainly wait for more confirmation than just a bS LTE
I...I can't really argue with that.
I did not believe the Matthew Perry death stories until I saw it from multiple sources.
I’ve worn out my thumb from tapping “delete and report as spam”
Going to be a long four months. . .
I've never been a member of either party but one party in particular has my number.
One party is sending us all the junk mail, and if they know MO as well as anyone here with a pulse, they'd know that the mailing isn't necessary
It's the grift. Lots of mouths to feed.
If the last eight years have taught me anything, it’s that the less online I am, the better.
I've got this place and Facebook, and I keep that confined to family and friends. I keep a tidy online bullshit firewall these days.
Ditto. Combine with AdBlocker and things mostly stay in check.
Since retiring, I am in front of a computer a lot less, and so online a lot less. I really don't miss it.
