Day game alert!
Aaron Nola
vs
Steven "David Festa" Okert
Welcome back David Festa. Hope you learned a few things in your brief time across the river. Phillies counter with their other ace, Nola. No big deal. Also the Royals have caught up and are effectively tied with the Twins with one more win and loss to their record.
After the Twins using openers so frequently several seasons ago, I can't remember the last time they used one. In this case, Okert faced three batters and got only a single out.
Ooops, didn't notice this thread.
*ahem* well struck
Over the WALLNER!
That HR was sharply hit
Exit velocity 112.9 mph. That ball went 441 feet in about two seconds.
just continuing on last night's theme
Okay, I did the actual calculations. It was 2.67 seconds.
I swear I don't think I've ever seen a Julien at-bat that didn't end in a strikeout.
Most of them looking at strike three. You can't let umpires determine the fate of your PAs that often and succeed.
Its very frustrating because I very much want a French Canadian to succeed!
So does my wife, her family tree goes back to the Cartiers.
My maternal grandfather was born in Quebec City, which is why one of my bike jerseys is the Quebec flag design.
Also, good fishin in Quebec.
Heh. Mrs. Twayn tells the tale of her great-grandfather who walked from Quebec to Saint Paul to marry his mail order bride. He decided to make it a one-way trip.
May have been her great-great-grandfather. At any rate, they settled around Centerville, lots of French Canadian heritage in that area.
Mine settled in Somerset. There's lots of French Canadian heritage there because my extended family is so huge.
It's the opposite. Batters are too aggressive with two strikes and should be more passive because pitchers are both trying to get them to chase and plain miss the zone a lot. That's not to say never swing, but batters should not feel pressured to protect the plate.
Julien must be the exception that proves the rule, then.
Rules were meant to be broken.
I missed the first inning, did something happen to Okert or was an opener the actual plan?
My guess was opener because he had two career starts out of 262 appearances. The Phillies start with two lefties in the top three spots of the order so that allows Festa to skip their first turn.
Strategery.
Opener, and not very effective.
I love watching mound gatherings on Gameday's field view beta; it's all it can do to untangle everyone's IDs as they return to their positions
Generous inside zone.
#1 most impactful bad call was the strikeout of Wallner.
that's a..... generous inside corner, blue.
Generosity!
hey, not a strikeout!
A slow-roller up the middle still counts as a hit.
those pesky RISPs
Rally killers.
Except for his first AB Monday, we've done a pretty good job of containing Harper's bat.
The Twins' starting, or bulk today, pitching has been very good this series.
good Lord, TWINS BASEBALL!!
plus some real hitting as well!
Santana was a great pickup.
*sigh* PH Margot
0-25, come on.
Drink!
Gladly.
Good inning from Sands. Now, some offense, if you please.
TWINS BASEBALL!!
The Brandon Inge HBP.
Nice bunt.
TWINS BASEBALL!!
we'll take it.
Max walkoff!
Series win against the best team in baseball.
I think if Stott didn't cut it off, Turner would have been able to throw out Kepler.
But only out 2, so wouldn't have mattered.
I think Marsh should have caught Santana's double. Sun or something
Ayyup.
Forgot to mention I was going to this game. I was there! It was fun! Go Twins!
When I played baseball, I was not good at catching balls on my glove-hand side. Marsh's miss on Santana's double has been a recurring nightmare of mine for 35 years now. I never ever catch that ball in my dreams.
Phillies have really leaned into the 80s hair metal look.
One of my coworkers who was at the game with me commented, "There's just so much HAIR in baseball!"
