  1. Younger Daughter and her boyfriend are saving up for a trip to Japan. I guess Europe is just too passé now.

    1. Next year we’re likely to go back to Edinburgh l, but the plan (should we move long enough and the world still exist) is to hit up Japan the following year. I’m working on my aikido skills.

      1. My big brother and his wife did a trip to Scotland this summer. He said it was nice, but it rained all the time.

        1. We had mostly clear weather which is remarkable. It pissed down rain a couple of days (in the 50s….) but I found it delightful because I live in Satan’s armpit.

    2. We are going to Spain in September for a week and a half. Our daughter is moving to Madrid to teach English for the school year. We fly into Barcelona for 4 days, then a train to Madrid to get her settled in. Our son is moving to Fargo to finish his engineering degree at NDSU. So we have a few weeks of moving some stuff into storage and other stuff to their new homes. Afterwards we start on long overdue projects around the house.

      1. That's awesome for her. Make sure to grab a beer or two at Cerveceria Alemania.

  2. Weird thing. I've been thinking for weeks now that I'm working the Foo Fighters concert tonight. But when I went to check the report time, I wasn't on the schedule, and when I checked my availability screen I saw that while I signed up to work, I got bumped. So I have the day off with no plans. It's going to be really hot, so this might be a good day to drag out the pressure washer and clean the house siding.

  3. I turned on the USA-Serbia game and then I realized, man, this USA team is super unlikeable.

    1. I don't think the Twins need to make a big deadline acquisition, and clearly now they won't. If they can add a little on the margins without giving up too much, great. If not, standing pat is better than making a dumb move. Getting and keeping certain players healthy and on the field will return more in WAR for the rest of the season than any trade would, IMHO.

      1. Their "buy" trades have almost all failed. Not buying would have put them in a better place right now.

      1. Agreed. They say it as if it was something out of their control, when in fact it's a decision they made.

  4. So, I watched about 90 minutes of prime time Olympic coverage last night and saw about 10 minutes of actual competition.

    1. I've been complaining about that for a long time. Historically the interviews and such have been pretty weak too. Some of their produced features are quality, but the live coverage has left a lot to desire.

Fortunately, this year we've got Fubo, and they've had a lot more actual event coverage, including live events at the right times. We've watched gymnastics (men's and women's), table tennis, equestrian, cycling, swimming, synchronized diving and judo. It's been awesome.

      1. I have Fubo, but haven't had much time to watch yet. But I do have a new appreciation for synchronized diving.

    2. Streaming recaps for anything but actual games or event finals seems to be the way to go.

My favorite summer event is handball. I’d probably watch it regularly if it were sufficiently popular in the US to have a league.

      1. I'm on record as completely agreeing with you. I feel like handball could be the curling of the summer games.

        1. Cheers to being in good company. The more I watch it, the more I wish it had been an option for me to play growing up. Just a cool game.

          1. I know we played it a few times in gym back in junior high and it was a lot of fun.

  5. Strike three to Báez was beautiful. Vázquez set up behind the other batter's box but it still wasn't far enough outside for Báez.

  6. The first 8 outs by St. Paul Saints today were strikeouts. Varland also has allowed a wall-scraping homerun.

      1. The line calls in tennis were always fun to watch. There admittedly as a bit more time available when a ball was improperly called however.

  7. Ive said it a few times this season but the radio team of Kris Atteberry and Glen Perkins make for a pleasant listening experience

      1. Royals do have the third wildcard again while Guardians have the best record in the AL by a single game.

  8. Julien has been horrendous today. 0-for3 with 3 K's, and some really poor defense

    1. I like Julien a lot, but something really isn't right. He had very good strike zone sense in the minors, and early on it kinda kept up, but this season has really been a strain.
