2024 Game Log 119 – Royals at Twins

Game two of a critical 3-game series against the pesky Royals, a team that made some moves at the trading deadline thinking that they had a shot of at least a wild card berth. Monday's Twins win put a little distance between the two teams so hopefully tonight with another win, the Twins can continue to hold the Royals at bay.

Seth Lugo on for the Royals and he's probably their best pitcher. Not huge strike out guy but he does well. Nothing that the Twins bats can't handle. No announced starter for the Twins yet this morning (I typically write these up before 8:00a). I may get back to fill in, or maybe not. Regardless it's probably someone from St. Paul. UPDATE!!!! Apparently it's Zebby Matthews making his Major League debut. A quick, 7 second look at Baseball Reference tells me this is the first Major Leaguer with the first name Zebby. So go ahead and have a blast Zebby and make all the other Zebbys all around the USA proud of your accomplishment, all four of them have been waiting ages for this day.

Should be a gorgeous night for baseball. First pitch at 6:40.

  2. A quick, 7 second look at Baseball Reference tells me this is the first Major Leaguer with the first name Zebby.

    His first name is Daniel but his middle name is Zebulon. So while his first name isn't Zebulon or Zebby, he is the first Zebulon since WW2.

  3. Matthews got his five innings so he's in line for the win. I wonder if the Twins try to get more outs or leave it to the bullpen.
