August 22, 2024: Adult Situations

I flew back from vacation on United and was quite surprised to find out that they definitely did not censor their in-seat entertainment content as I tried to shield the naked woman on my screen from my fellow passengers.

  1. We're so puritanical about nudity here, or at least enough of us are to make the rest of us pretend we're uncomfortable with it as well. For some reason we equate nudity with sexual activity, but I've seen enough of those movies to know you can do that with your clothes on, too.

      1. Deja vu. The first movie nudity I ever saw was Dirty Harry, it starts with a woman swimming topless in a pool and getting shot by the serial killer with a sniper rifle.

    1. Saturday and Sunday gates open two hours (and ten minutes) before first pitch. I'm working tomorrow night, if I get a chance I'll stop by and say hi. Gates 34 and 29 always run out of the giveaways first, so maybe try Gates 3 or 6 on the 5th Street side where the light rail tracks are. Make sure they have jerseys at the gate before scanning your tickets, once you are inside you can't get one from another gate, you have to get it upon entry. The skyway from Ramp A over 7th Street is another low volume entrance worth trying if you park there.

      1. Gate 14 behind home plate is my family's go-to when we we're wondering if we may be late for the giveaways.

        1. Aye, because it faces the garbage burner and has no adjacent street, Gate 14 doesn't get much traffic.

        2. I wasn't even aware of this gate! Philosofette and I got some nice seats for next Friday's game against the Blue Jays (Section 3, Row 4!), and there's a "first 5,000" giveaway which isn't too many people... so maybe we'll try that gate.

  2. "Sir, would you mind if an unaccompanied minor sat next to you during your flight?"
"Uh, I guess, but fair warning I'm going to be watching Deadpool"

      1. In our showing of Deadpool and Wolverine last weekend, there was a ~6 year old with the family next to us. I'm guessing there was a lot of "learning" going on there.

        1. I felt a little uncomfortable when I took my two teenage daughters to see it, but then when we walked out and saw a couple of younger boys (ten-ish) I didn't feel quite so bad.

  3. Looking for a Twins-adjacent, political tee-shirt? Say no more.
