Seven & i Holdings, the Japanese owners of 7-Eleven, rejected a multibillion dollar takeover from a Canadian company. Good! That place is a national treasure (though they all kind of suck in this country).

I just wanted to add by two cents on yesterday's discussion of Twins ownership/management.
The thing to remember is that their goal is not to build a championship team. Their goal is to build a "good enough" team. Good enough to get a low playoff seed. Good enough to win the division if the division isn't too strong. Good enough to keep the fans interested. But not good enough to actually compete with the big boys.
Now, that's not nothing, and we should recognize that. There are lots of teams who would love to have the Twins' recent record of success, playoff failures and all. We don't have to stretch our memories back too far to remember Twins teams that were trying to avoid a hundred losses, and not always succeeding. It's not easy to put together a "good enough" team, and we shouldn't take it for granted.
Having said that, though, it's also okay to feel some disappointment that this is as good as it's ever likely to get. Unless there's a change in ownership or a change in the way baseball is structured, it's very unlikely that the Twins will win another world championship in my lifetime. It's not impossible--there could always be one of those years where everything lines up just right, they get just enough breaks, people get hot at just the right time, and they win it all. But it's not very likely.
So, while we should appreciate what is, I think it's also okay to feel some sadness at what will probably never be.
A lot of truth here but I can't help comparing the Twins plight to the Royals. I think the Royals are in a similar boat as Twins - goal isn't to build a championship team but be good enough. And they even have fewer resources than the Twins. But they did see they had some going at the end of last season and made reasonable but real improvements to the team over the off season and then at the trading deadline. Now they are cleaning the Twins clock. Will they win the World Series this year? Probably not, but at least they put themselves in a position to maybe catch lightning in a bottle. At this point the Twins are just hoping the Tigers and Red Sox are sucky enough not to surpass them for the last Wild Card slot.
Royals payroll is $114 million this year too. Now, they are having an insane season from BWJ at arb prices but Trout with the Angels is an obvious counter example that a 10 win player does not equal a postseason appearance.
When we moved to Colorado I was 15 and knew about 7-11 from trips to Oklahoma, but we didn't have them in Ohio or Indiana. So when we ended up with one about a quarter mile away it was awesome. Slightly uphill trek there, but that just meant you could go hands-free with minimal pedaling while drinking your ICEE on the way home with your piñon nuts and the tomato sauce your mom needed to make supper.
I hope that Bailey has figured out KC now. And that he gets a little offensive support.
I wouldn't be surprised if his support is offensive.
His support was offensive. Thankfully Ober was near perfect over his seven innings. Hopefully the 'pen can take it home.
Mrs Runner is a bit verklempt, as Mizzou football isn't being televised, but she informed me the Twins are on the local Fox broadcast, so it better be a good game
Jose okay!
Wallner way to go!
Duran.
I hope we're not leaning on Jax too much here late in the season
Rough Jax tonight.
Should have just ate that one. Could've used better defense at first too.
Anyone not named Farmer wouldn't have let that by them without even touching it
Too many young players out there
At least the Saints played well tonight!
Heard Ober cruising on the radio until I got to Des Moines (Banana Ball tomorrow!). Why the hook?
Let us know when you find out, 'cause we don't know
