Don't really know much about Popkins, but this has the appearance of firing somebody to show you're doing something after the disaster you caused, a sacrificial lamb of sorts. That said, I've shaken my head after a lot of at bats that didn't have any apparent thought behind them this year. Seems that should be more on the players than the coaches, though.
It's never fun to lose your job, but I really feel this was justified. Throughout the month-and-a-half-long slump, I never saw anyone make any adjustments. Everyone stood in the same place they always stood, used the same stance they always used, and swung the same way they always swung. Not surprisingly, they kept getting the same results. Either Popkins wasn't doing anything to help them or they weren't listening to him. Either way, a change was needed.
Happy centenary, President Carter. The world could use your decency & humanitarian light for another 100 years.
Only the older sets. Newer sets are centenarian approved.
Those that want to make some postseason guesses, the post is up.
Popkins out as hitting coach.
