  1. Fwiw, a few months ago I purchased Wirecutter's then-favorite deodorant stick, from Lavilin, an Israeli company.

Spendy, and has a slight, un-manly floral scent. But the shit works great. (I wouldn't trust it for the claimed 72 hours, but....)

The key is some zinc oxide in the formulation.

It looks as though the stick i purchased is no longer available, but they have a roll-on product. I can't vouch for their current stick formulations for men. They don't list zinc oxide in the ingredients (the roll-on does).

  2. Several years ago I switched from antiperspirant to a deodorant made from sodium bicarbonate suspended in natural oils. (This was a social distancing-era experiment; that seemed like an optimal time to try.) I’d gotten tired of how quickly undershirts would get gross from stuff I was putting under my arms and wondered just what was in the antiperspirant and what its long term health effects might be.

The natural deodorant worked great, but still left some residue on my shirts, so I switched again. Now I just have a chunk of potassium alum that lasts six months or so. No complaints have been lodged, and my shirts don’t feel gross anymore.

  3. I had recently heard the best time to put on deodorant is actually at night. It works best on dry skin and its effects can't really be washed away during a morning shower. I haven't experimented with this, but sounds interesting.

        1. Why wouldn't I? Nice to go to bed clean after a long day of work, and not have to mess around with the shower in the morning when I can start my day at 6AM hitting the ground running. Unless your hair suffers from severe bedhead, of course.
