Back when I used to work a register, every time this total came up, I was always hoping the customer would hand me a $100 because then the change would be $36.41, or one of every bill and every coin (this worked with $13.59 and a $50, but the $100 always seemed more likely to me). Never happened though...

Anyone have any good advice for someone who just tore their ACL?
We are skiing this week, and I fell yesterday in a way that twisted my knee wrong, and that was that. I will presumably have an MRI once I get home to confirm and check for any other damage, but based on on the doctor’s assessment in moving the knee around, he felt very confident it is torn, and likely a full tear. And probably/hopefully no other real damage done.
We fly to Virginia on Tuesday to see my wife’s family, and then to Minnesota to see mine, so I’m sure traveling is going to make this all more difficult. Definitely not the way I had hoped to spend our vacation time.
Um...you may get early boarding assistance?
I will definitely need the early boarding. Crutching through a plane does not sound fun or quick.
Ask for wheelchair assistance. It's more than worth it.
Bummer, dude. I’ve had scopes on both knees and can attest to the value of completing the pt pst surgery. My older bro tore his acl many years ago, trusting his repair took some time.
God speed with the travel.
Bummer. I tore one back in 2009, and you can do a surprising amount of things with it still torn (I ran a 5K, for example) once the swelling subsides as long as there won't be much lateral movement.
The rehab after surgery is a long slog because your hips will atrophy quickly. I was stuck on one for if the house door about a week, but then I was decently mobile and eschewed crutches after about 2 weeks. You'll still have a big stupid brave in your knee for several months.
Suggestions on presents for my staff? Years back alcohol was the go to - usually a small bottle of Champaign for new years - but that’s out the window this year.
Candies? Other food-type things? Something consumable always seems like a good idea to me.
Good coffee is never unappreciated by anyone who drinks it, I’d think.and even if one doesn’t, the regifting opportunities are myriad.
If not coffee, then maybe a restaurant gift card? Or maybe a 5000mAh battery bank? Depends on your budget / how many, but a reputable one starts around $30 or so.
We often have to buy small, interestingish gifts/treats. Traitor Joe's is always a good place for that.
$0.41 was my favorite change to give back. It didn't take me long to realize it was one of each coin. I didn't work the registers enough to have favorite amount of dollars to return though.
$36.41 was my white whale. Never got it. But, anything with $36 or $0.41 in the change total was still fun.
Speaking of, it happens less and less these days because I rarely carry cash/change, but I always chuckle when you give a cashier a weird amount of change to get a more even amount back and they look totally lost. For example, say the total is $16.67, and you hand them $22.17 to get $5.50 back instead of handing them a twenty for $3.33 in change. As they stand there staring blankly at their hand, I just tell them put the amount in the register(, let it do the work), and it will make sense.
I could usually do the math immediately but there was once the customer changed the change after I rung it up and I was utterly lost. I was taking calculus in high school and couldn't redo the math in my head at the time so I felt some sympathy for other cashiers in the same predicament.
That's why I counted back on everything, no head math or register calculator (the DQ in Somerset I started at had olllllllld tills) needed.
Counting change is, sadly, a lost art.
Kepler zieht nach Philadelphia.
After accounting for the CBT implications, it’s basically a one year, $19.5 million commitment by the Phillies. That’s certainly more than I’d have been willing to put down for his services.
Max has had a fine career. He seemed on the cusp of stardom at age-26 in 2019. Sadly, that was his peak.
2019's bouncy ball made it a career year for many players.
I used pretty accurate GPS on that, too!
