So, we aired Festivus some grievances (which should you still have some, the floor is still open), but today, who ended up on your Nice List this year?

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good morning.
Merry Christmas from a hotel outside DFW! American Airlines had a major software glitch yesterday morning that grounded everything, plus storms in Dallas means we missed our connection, and spent the night here.
Definite addition to the nice list for the two people working at the 24-hour Dennys who were clearly slammed by an unusual number of people in the restaurant at midnight on Christmas Eve, plus the constant stream of to-go orders from everyone else stuck in DFW.
Bummer, dude. We’re having the opposite experience, upgraded to first class departing on a flight that may be 1/4 full. Everyone working at the airport has been pleasant and cheerful (with the exception of the TSA).
Nice! Day 2 of our travel adventure has been smooth sailing so far. We have now made it to DC, so once my wife gets back with the rental car to pick us up, we’ll be on the road. Just a few hours left, and we’ll finally be there. Looking forward to some drinks when we arrive.
Merry Christmas, Citizens!
Currently binging Severence season 1 with Runner daughter, with a couple sleeping puppies at my side. Have to say, if you've already seen it, I gotta recommend Counterpart to you. Very much in the same vein, although with more action sequences.
Happy Christmas, everyone. We are spending the day with Mrs. A's family, as what family I have lives some distance away. We will visit, play cards, and eat, not necessarily in that order.
Watching Batman Returns. Asked myself why I never saw it. Got 15 minutes in and realized why.
Brunch has been served and eaten, naps have been had (or are being had), games have been played and The Muppets' Christmas Carol is currently playing.
Big hits so far this year include the games Play Nine and A Gentle Rain. And an herbs de Provence cheddar I found at the grocer.
That's a 5-star film, and that's not just my avatar talking.
No college hockey this past week, it's the holiday break and most games through the end of the year are non-conference or exhibition. But the US National Junior Team has been selected and Minnesota schools are pretty well represented. Two of the three assistant coaches are Steve Miller (UofM) and Brett Larson (SCSU). UMD and SCSU have defensemen on the team. The U of M, UMD, and SCSU have forwards on the roster. That makes six of 22 college players and half the coaches from MN colleges; three players were drawn from Canadian junior league teams. Team USA starts tournament play against Germany tomorrow at 2:30 Eastern (NHL Network).
Christmas went well, and I capped it off by collapsing into bed at 9pm!
Our household's contributions to the holiday meal took some work, but all turned out well. Featuring many things from Smitten Kitchen.
Gingered Cranberry Sauce (Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone by Deborah Madison)
Mashed Potatoes and Root Vegetables
Twisty Cinnamon Buns
Old-School Dinner Rolls (substituted 1/3 whole wheat flour for white flour, which resulted in really nice flavor)
Brussels Sprouts, Apple, and Pomegranate salad (first time making this recipe--it was a hit with the adults)
Dark Chocolate Tart with Gingersnap Crust (I've been making this for at least 6 years and am now obligated, though fortunately it's quite straightforward and less work than a regular pie crust)
My brain first read that as the Smitten Kitten, and I was prepared to be wowed by some cooking ingenuity
After watching many of the standard Christmas movies yesterday, I found A Christmas Carol (2019 version) on Hulu. It apparently was originally released as a mini-series. We watched it all at once last night. Definitely a far different take than most versions of the story. Very dark. The ending was definitely not as gratifying as other versions, but probably more realistic considering the back story.
In terms of food, I did not go to crazy. Local farm-raised Ribeye steaks with roasted yukon gold potatoes and green bean casserole for our noon dinner. In the evening I pulled some King crab meat and tossed it in a black garlic butter sauce with penne pasta blistered cherry tomatoes, basil and parmesan cheese. It was pretty darn good. My son bought me some Korean black garlic. I have never cooked with that before and it was very good.
This was my first holiday in 35 years that I did not have any beer, wine or liquor. With having issues with high blood pressure, as well as other health problems, I decided to stop drinking 3 weeks ago to see how it affects my health. The good: Even though I feel like I am eating more, I am losing weight. 5 pounds shed in 3 weeks. My blood pressure is down a little bit so far. The not so good: I really, really, really hoped that removing alcohol from my diet would benefit my post shingles pain. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The past 24 hours or so have been pretty shitty in that regard.
My brother sent us an Omaha Steaks care package, so we had grilled filets and little au gratin potato thingys, with grilled shrimp and a tossed salad.
