February 11, 2025: Me Me Me

I have my phone and tablet set to use random photos it's selected as wallpaper. It's a mix of pictures I've taken of family, various landmarks, etc. Somehow, Rick got a hold of my tablet and set the random wallpapers to only show photos of him. Clever kid...

  1. Mrs Runner's bronchitis got worse, and combined with my burgeoning sinus congestion, we're packing it back home. Hate to throw out five "free" days, but if you can't sleep at night, you can't enjoy the daytime at all.

  2. I’d be grateful for any suggestions folks might have for a decent eatery near the Ordway that has some interesting menu options but will also serve a kid a hamburger. Herbie’s and Pillbox Tavern are on my radar, but I’m not often in that area and there may be better options.

    1. Both of those are good. The Loon is similar. Smorgies is getting some good reviews, mostly handhelds and flatbreads. Not sure when you are going but I'm hearing that Wrecktangle Pizza at the Palace Theater is supposed to reopen by the end of February. If you like Detroit-style pizza, that's the place, plus other menu items.

      1. Wrecktangle will have to wait for another trip, but I’m making a note of it.

Sounds like there will a number of suitable options and it’s just a matter of which one to choose, which can be a conversation amongst those with more adventurous appetites.

        1. Thanks for confirming something I suspected might be the case. I thought hard about Mickey’s for the character and special occasion quality, but this will be a pre-show meal and I’d rather not chance it. I’m delighted to see it finally reopened.

    1. Looks like they tried to sneak him through.

          1. Hayes & Gleeman:

France was an outstanding hitter for the Mariners in 2021-22, batting .283/.353/.440 with 38 homers. He was a league-average bat in 2023, finishing with a .703 OPS, but struggled last season.

Calm down, guys. He hit those 38 homers in 1263 PA (3.0 HR%) on his way to a .158 ISO. Trevor Larnach has a .167 career ISO and 3.2 HR% . Max Kepler had a .161 ISO and 3.1 HR% in 1336 PA over his final three years with the Twins. Ryan Jeffers hit 35 homers across 800 PA in 2023–24.

              1. Agreed; both have been in the sportswriter game long enough to know better.

But I’d also suggest a first baseman posting the 28th best wRC+ among all players in those years doesn’t make his hitting particularly outstanding.

      1. I don't understand why the Twins seem so reluctant to go with Jose Miranda at first base
I mean, I don't think he's a superstar in the making, but I'd sure rather go with him than Ty France or Willi Castro at first base. Miranda is going into his age 27 season. It seems to me that it's time to play him everyday and see whether he can do it or not. What am I missing/forgetting here?
