Tuesday was a weird and fun day. I got a text at noon from our local food supplier: "A couple backed out last minute for our trip to Sint Maarten. Do you and your wife want to go?" I replied "When is it?" The answer was "this Sunday through Thursday". As I pondered this, my wife texted me: "It's my birthday next week. Can we sneak out of town for a few days to get away?" We had 2 hours to answer or the opportunity would be gone. We were able to find coverage at our jobs, so on Sunday morning at 5:30 am, we will depart for the tropics! So that was weird and fun. On another note, our daughter texted us that morning that she applied for another year of teaching English in Spain. I am a bit conflicted on this. I am happy she is having a blast and what a great opportunity to see the world! However, it is a bit nerve wracking (especially for my wife) to have our daughter that far away. She will come home for a few weeks this summer, but I do miss that girl.
That’s great! We haven’t done something like that since our first year of marriage (24 years ago).
Also, feel you on the daughter-away thing. Our middle is going to college next year and planning on majoring in English & Japanese studies. It’s seems inevitable that a year or three teaching English (or some other thing) abroad is in her future. She’s already expressed interest in it.
We may need to have a chat and a notes-comparison if/when that happens.
