May 28, 2012: Lucky Me

This move came along out of nowhere, to the point that I couldn't get out of work to help move but it still has to happen. So, most of the work is being done today without me. Oops!

  1. I love knuckleball pitchers:

    Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN
R.A. Dickey struck out Jesus Guzman with a pitch registering 60 MPH Sunday -- the slowest pitch on which a K has been recorded this season.

  2. It was painful reading yesterday's game log -- like watching a movie of a car full of happy-go-lucky teens driving out to a mysterious lone cabin out in the woods.

    1. All I knew was the final score, so as I read the log I wondered...how does it happen? It hit me that it must have been Capps about a millisecond before I read as much.

  3. Why, yes, I was so wrecked from moving last night after work I didn't even remember to make the CoC about Memorial Day. Take no offense, Veterans.

    1. Yesterday during the game, Kevin Gorg interviewed a WWII vet and said something about tomorrow being "your day".

Wait, isn't the guy still alive? Are you not talking to him? I think his day is Veteran's Day.

      1. Yeah, that was almost as uncomfortable as a Robbie Incikimikosiwisi interview. Nice job, FSN.

  4. We've decided on our hike this year. Mount Alice in Colorado. 13,300 feet with s 4,800 foot climb in about 8 miles or so. Yikes!

    1. VV Cool.
Rocky mtn Natl park was my first big time in the mountains.
I discovered that my asthma helped me. Altitude sickness got to my dad but I was so used to dealing with low Oxygen that I felt nothing. (or, I was just younger.) I loved being under the Never Summer Mountains in the NW of the park. Our longest hike was to Lulu City.

With Mount Alice, Lulu City, and McHenry's Peak, three of my four kids have namesakes in the park. Anything named "Cora"?

  5. Whoever is responsible for the design of the spare tire holding system on a Chrysler Pacifica should be punched in the Rae repeatedly. Why in seven bells would you put a hidden and near inaccessible lock in addition to the winch that you can't reach because it only allows the tire o be lowered about 2 freekin inches?

As a fellow owner, I feel your pain, but I'd like to clarify your statement to more fully reflect my feelings towards the vehicle.

      1. I'm with you there. I've been telling my wife a lot lately that we should have gotten a Toyota Sienna in the first place, like I wanted to. The burning oil is my favorite part right now. Not a lot, but enough that I have to keep a 5 qt container in the back. My favorite before that was the incredible design of the air filter housing. Are Mercedes this stupid?

        1. The burning oil is my favorite part right now.

I very much enjoyed the Saturn shop that told us that burning a quart of oil every 1,000 miles was "normal usage". Bull [redacted] [redacted]. Only if your engineering is total crap.

          1. I think I'm around a half quart per 1000 miles, but yeah, I've never had a car that burned any noticeable amount even after 150,000+ miles. Cars, man, wish I could do without em.

    2. Wow. We have the same release system on the Grand Caravan (which we're selling. I don't want to, but at least we won't have that spare tire system anymore).

      1. Yeah, Dodge and Chrysler are basically the same thing (Jeep too.), and I think I remember you complaining about it a couple months ago. I didn't realize just how horrible it was until I did it today. I think the thing that pisses me off the most about it is that the owner's manual doesn't even mention that part. It just says lower the tire with the winch bolt as if its the easiest thing in the world to do. Just a total engineering and technical writing failure.

    1. Again, it's also SABR weekend in Minneapolis, so y'all should just come up here and enjoy lots of beer and arguing instead.

  6. What a great day. This was my first paid holiday in more than three years thanks to being laid off and then self-employed. We started the day by going to a matinee to watch "The Avengers" (excellent flick, btw), and then went next door for a basically free meal at a Subway thanks to a gift card my wife got from a student for teacher appreciation. Then we went home and got ready for a pool party at a friends house for their son, who had just graduated. Got to hang out with good friends and good food while the boys played in the pool with their friends. I caught the end of the sixth and the seventh innings of the Twins' game and then came home and watched the final two innings to see the Twins win. Very nice feature on mlb.tv where you can choose to have scores hidden so you can watch it delayed without knowing the final result. Very excellent day all around.

  7. Tri-tip, Anaheim chiles, and a portabello for the girl On the Grill. Sweet corn in the pot, and sauteed/steamed artichokes. And this in my hand. World class holiday.
