Batting stars: Tsuyoshi Niskioka was 3-for-4. Pedro Florimon was 2-for-2 with a double and three walks. Danny Valencia was 2-for-5 with a double.
Pitching stars: Samuel Deduno allowed one hit and two walks in six innings while striking out eight. Kyle Waldrop gave up just one hit in two shutout innings.
Opposition star: Charles Leesman gave up one run on seven hits and two walks while striking out nine in 5.2 innings.
Key inning: The seventh. Trailing 1-0, the Knights put runners on first and third with two out but did not score. In the bottom of the inning, the Red Wings got a two out single from Michael Hollimon to drive in an insurance run.
Other: The Red Wings stranded thirteen base runners.
NEW BRITAIN 9, RICHMOND 8 IN RICHMOND
Batting stars: Evan Bigley was 4-for-5 with a double and a home run, his ninth. He drove in three. Chris Herrmann was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring three times. Chris Colabello was 2-for-5 with a double.
Pitching stars: None.
Opposition stars: Mark Minicozzi was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run. Gary Brown was 2-for-4 and scored three times.
Key inning: The ninth. Tied at seven, Bigley delivered a two run double top put the Rock Cats up 9-7. In the bottom of the inning, the Flying Squirrels scored once and put the tying run on second with one out. The runner advanced to third on a fly out, but Juan Perez popped up to end the game.
Other: Richmond made five errors in the game.
ST. LUCIE 8, FORT MYERS 7 IN ST. LUCIE (5 INNINGS—RAIN)
Batting stars: Levi Michael was 2-for-3 with a double. Josmil Pinto hit a grand slam.
Pitching stars: None.
Opposition stars: Rafael Fernandez hit a three run homer. Blake Forsythe hit a home run.
Key inning: The fifth. Fort Myers was leading 7-4. An error and a walk put two Mets on with one out when Fernandez hit a three run homer to tie the game. Forsythe followed with a solo shot to put St. Lucie ahead. The game was called at the end of the inning.
Other: Cutting a high-scoring game like that short hardly seems fair, but that’s the way it goes.
BELOIT 7, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS
Batting stars: Nate Roberts was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Drew Leachman was 2-for-4.
Pitching star: David Hurlbut gave up one hit and three walks over seven innings.
Opposition star: Carmine Giardina struck out five in three innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk.
Key inning: The third. Leading 2-0, the Snappers scored three times. Steven Liddle drove in one with a double, another scored on a hit-by-pitch, and the third scored on a sacrifice fly.
Other: The lone Kernel hit was a one out single in the first by Eric Stamets.
BURLINGTON 6, ELIZABETHTON 5 IN BURLINGTON
Batting star: Rory Rhodes was 2-for-4 with a double. Jorge Polanco was 2-for-4.
Pitching star: Brett Lee worked 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk.
Opposition stars: Mark Threlkeld was 2-for-5 with a double. Freddy Rodriguez threw two perfect innings.
Key inning: The ninth. Trailing 5-4, the Royals used a pair of walks to put runners on first and second with two out. Threlkeld singled, and when right fielder Adam Walker made an error fielding the ball, both runners scored to end the game.
Other: There were six errors in the game, four by the Twins.
GCL RED SOX 4, TWINS 3 AT RED SOX (7 INNINGS—RAIN)
Batting stars: Jose Ramirez was 2-for-3 with a triple. Bryan Haar was 2-for-3 with a double.
Pitching star: Randy Rosario struck out five in four shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.
Opposition stars: Jeremiah Pineda was 2-for-2 and drove in two. Carlos Pinales threw three shutout innings, allowing just one hit.
Key inning: The sixth. With the Twins leading 3-2, a double, an error, a stolen base, and an infield out plate two runs to give the Red Sox the lead. The game was called in the bottom of the seventh.
DSL TWINS 4, CUBS1 2 AT CUBS1
Batting star: Dubal Baez was 2-for-5 with a double.
Pitching star: Junior Subero struck out eight in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.
Opposition stars: Roney Alcala was 2-for-4. Jose Paniagua hit a home run. Carlos A. Rodriguez struck out seven in six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk.
Key inning: The ninth. Leading 3-1, the Twins had two out and none on when Baez doubled and scored on a Victor Arias single for an insurance run. In the bottom of the inning, the Cubs1 brought the tying run to the plate with none out. The next three batters all went out to end the game.
