Welcome back to Tuesday starts, Pelf!
Pelfrey (3-4, 6.57 ERA) vs. Tim Hudson (4-3, 5.12 ERA)
Boy, apathy is really starting to set in for me already. Amazing what two years of losing, a 6-game losing streak and the furious return of the assbats can do for a man's patience, which could be why I keep forgetting I have Tuesday game logs.
Anyway, as I was struggling for words for this game log, Buffalo reminded me that tonight is the NBA lottery. I always get unreasonably excited to see which terrible spot the Wolves end up. Will they fall below their expected slot? Will they move up only to be slotted one pick after they can reasonably be expected to select the guy that will actually help the team? Stay tuned.
I was just updating my calendar* and noticed that Soursteak set a first for the Twins for the past 5 or so years I've been doing this.
He earned two BOSOs himself in the middle game of the BoSox series.
He entered the game in the fifth, when the score was 2-5.
He allowed the score to rise to 2-7 by the end of the inning, depriving the BoSox of a Save Opportunity.
Then the Twins scored three runs, resulting in a 5-7 score (and a Save Opportunity) at the start of the 7th.
The score was then 5-9 when he was relieved, again depriving the BoSox of a Save Opportunity.
As I am the official keeper of the BOSO** statistic, and as I have awarded multiple BOSOs in the same game to separate pitchers, I see no reason why Slavestank didn't earn two in the same game.
*
In red ink for losses, blue ink for wins.
**Blown Opposition Save Opportunity
***always with the Twins runs listed first.
****If not nine
I predict a Twins blowout victory
If I wasn't absolutely certain that the Twins are going to win every game the rest of the season, I'd be starting to get frustrated at the way we have to fall behind early in every single game.
Half as many runs as yesterday! It's nothing but a speed bump after many winters of plows eating away at it.
As much as Gardy frustrates me at times, I wonder how he has managed to maintain his sanity with the starting pitching options he has had the last few years. These guys are just tough to watch.
Cpt. Clutch Florimon!
Pedro!
how does one score a strikeout by failed bunt attempt in the scorebook?
K. It's a strikeout. If you want to make a notation in your book, that's fine, but officially, it's a strikeout just like any other strikeout.
K:(
LOL
I lol'd
rain delay
Why in the world didn't they put a roof on that place?
the Braves didnt bribe the Olympics enough to get a roof on it
I spent about a week in Atlanta one summer as a kid, when grampaS took us there to attend a conference. I think it rained every evening for an hour or so, but was otherwise hot and sunny.
also, the average rainfall in May in Atlanta over the last 30 years has been 3.95 inches. In Minneapolis, 3.24 inches.
we had more than that just last night here in St. Chas
Atteberry's been getting lots of air time lately.
Sitting outside under the umbrella, waiting for this:
http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=box&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=no
It's not 'CCO, but mesmerizing, like the weather channel on the radio in my car.
Wow. Once the temps dropped, the storm dudded out.
bS nailed it.
Wolves stay at #9 in the NBA draft. The have never gain lotto positions in the entire run of the franchise (something like 0-15)
on the plus side, they didnt lose any ground
And the Cavs win again. It's too bad they didn't wait a few more weeks to shitbin Khan. His reaction would've been priceless.
I really thought they were going to end up doing a couple spots to where they'd end up drafting Zeller, or something equally stupid because that's how it goes. So, I'm glad they stayed put. Now for Oladipo to be around...
I saw Doogie tweet that Flip really loves Oladipo. Maybe a trade?
Williams and 9 to move up. Do it Billy Smith!!!!
when I got home from the airport and saw their was rain delay, I thought for sure the Twins had a lead then, but realized it was only a delay, not a cancellation
Pelfrey will not come back to pitch
2 runs in 2 innings? that's about his ERA, right?
Mauer-Willingham-Morneau singles to piranha a run!
Somewhere, Ozzie Guillen is crying.
Damn, Joe is quick.
Swizzlestrikes
Even with the rain delay, this game is moving faster than a Yankees/Red Sox tilt.
McCould
Florimon seems like a really bad shortstop.
UZR and DRS of +3. TZ says +2. Prior to this game at least.
Huh. I was a little curious about him, because he seems to have pretty good range, but he also seems to mishandle a lot of balls that almost all shortstops would easily get.
UZR's breakdown says he's a positive in range and a negative in "error runs". Last year he was really bad in that category while this year only barely.
Well at least I'm not going crazy!
the first couple weeks of the season he was awful. Playing a lot better since
Mauer now trading strikeouts for groundouts to second. I think I like those better since it implies contact.
He had a lot of those 4-3 ground outs during his slump
Bremer: Team batting average is such a deceiving stat.
Me: And............
Safe by a full step.
Nice appearance by Swarzak: three strikeouts and no walks in four innings.
at the end of this game:
Pelfrey 40.1 IP
Hernandez 32.1 IP
Swarzak 30.0 IP
Butters: 0.0 IP
At catcher, no less!
A stringle!
generous strike zone.
This is our inning or I quit.
Looks like Mr. Gladden uses a plasic soda cup as a spitoon.
You know what he should use as a spittoon?
Bert.
This is better than the clear soda bottle the guy in front of me in Statistics class in college used. :/
my boss uses buys a Mt Dew Code Red every day and uses yesterdays bottle for his spittin.
ew
Joey Joe Jo!
Walkingham!
with Dozier PR for Willingham, does Carroll move to 3B and Plouffe to LF?
Parmelee to right, Doumit to left?
No points for (either of) you! Ramirez to left. Perfectly good
wasteuse of a player.Plouffe!!!!
DOOOOM.
need to see a replay of that slide
oh jeeze, nice play by 3rd bases dude blocking the base with his foot
Perk might get legitimate work tonight
A lead is always nice. Let's see what comes of it
Dazz: "Ideally, you'd like to get Mauer to bat here."
Now I see why they pay him.
Whooooaaa, that's a nice throw.
I don't like the move, but I understand it.
And it paid off for the Barves.
That ball was mashed.
Oops.
I came for the puppies, but it looks like they just got hit by a car.
Nuts.
That was nasty
Geeze, I am behind.
I really like the mlbviewer program for it's resource-lightness, but I'm never in sync with the game log.
crax
Tapped a new keg this weekend. Mags, you are on notice.
I still have some Oyster Stout to share.
Saturday afternoon is a day game?
Might have some family things in the early afternoon. Sundays are generally better for me.
We have plans to go see the flaming waterfall down near Orchard Park on Sunday.
That does look cool...
setting Hicks up for heroism?
Oh, great.
Crap. Another head injury.
Dick says he's going to be okay*!
*Not a doctor.
Good Lord, another Morneau situation?!
He's not Canadian, so, hopefully not the same history.
Well a loss seems inevitable here. Why not make the Twins use all their pitchers and lose a position player or two to make it as painful as possible?
Ok, I'm moving on to the NBA game.
Strike Three to Hicks didn't look anywhere close to the plate.
Out of position players and only thirteen pitches from Perk and he gets pulled for another lefty? Let him go two innings!
But then he'd get his role confused. Besides, you can't use closers in non-closing situations.
I think we've got another cliche somewhere in there, but it's escaping me right now.
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyup.
Don't look down.
Nuts, again.
These things happen sometimes, and they seem to be happening to the Twins a lot lately. Never fear, however. Things are about to change. It's always darkest before the dawn. Tonight the winning streak begins. We'll just have to settle for 138-24!
Perkins blew a save
Plouffe probably has a concussion
ugh
