Friday Music Day — The Droning

Since I was given this slot by AMR I thought I would take the opportunity to drone on for 28 minutes about GBV….  O.k. maybe not, instead I’ll go all Gleeman on the bit and do some Friday links:

Here’s a well-written commentary from the Curator of the Walker about Low’s 28 minute drone at RTG.  Of course he loved it (as did I).

Want to know what the fuss was all about?  Here’s the stream:

Har Mar Superstar the Guitar Player for the Replacements?  It was fun while it lasted.

One of my least favorite bands are headlining an outdoor show Saturday in Downtown Mpls.

I guess a feminist Taylor Swift twitter account is a thing.

That's all I got.  Use the space below and drop some rad lists.

    Drone forever!

      1. heh.

No, seriously. I thought it sounded great. Granted, I own several of Sonic Youth's SYR releases and Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, so I was probably their target audience.

  9. speaking of The Replacements, which album do you prefer: Let It Be or Tim? *
to me, both are A+, 5 stars, three thumbs up albums. but if I have had be stranded in the middle of nowhere with one I think it would have to beTim. The 'side 2' of that album has become one of my favorite track listing on any album that I have. Let It Be with 'Unsatisfied' and 'Sixteen Blue' makes it really hard for me leave it at home.

    * Ive been listening to these two albums way too much lately.

    1. Ooh great question. That's like your wife asking do you want to have sex in the bed or sex on the couch. You can't go wrong with either.

I lean towards Let It Be. A Kiss cover and Gary's Got a Boner bracketing Unsatisfied and Seen Your Video?!? That is the definition of The Replacements.

      1. Ooh great question. That’s like your wife asking do you want to have sex in the bed or sex on the couch.

        FTFY.

        1. No kidding. They're allowed to initiate, eh? This is a very interesting development and will be used in our next conversation!

    2. i pretty sure i mentioned this recently, but i finally got into the replacements a few months back (the dreck that westerberg was kicking out solo made me ill-advisedly avoid them). i currently only have let it be but, oh man, do i love that album. "androgynous" and "unsatisfied" are excellent tracks, but i think "answering machine" has to be the best overall track off that album. i'm looking forward to picking up tim though.

      1. I got into them late last year, and I have bounced around their catalog. Starting with Let It Be, then Tim, then the later stuff. I am finally getting around to going backwards to Hootenanny and Sorry Ma...

        Its been an awesome adventure.

      2. Androgynous is awesome. No one has mentioned "I Will Dare" yet, either. I'd probably go with Let it Be although that is colored by the fact that it was my first Replacements album, and I've spent more time with it.

      3. I wonder if Wilco would be willing to loan out Nels Cline for those Replacement dates this summer?
        httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_oC4kXFotw

    3. I have "I Will Dare", "Androgynous", "Answering Machine", and "Unsatisfied" all starred on Spotify. And I'm usually pretty stingy with the stars.

    4. this might come out wrong (or somewhat insulting depending on your opinion) but, from my highly limited knowledge of their catalog, it sounds so "uptown". i lived there for a combined 3.5 years or so, and though i never listened to them then, i'm immediately brought back to that time and place.
