Scott Kazmir, still kind of serviceable, faces Mike Pelfrey, still kind of not. The Twins need to go 16-18 to reach my preseason hopes of going 73-89. There's really not much left to see this season outside of September callups and the bizarre and fantastic (though likely temporary) comeback of Justin Morneau, but I'm off today, so I may as well see what the Twins are up to. I'll probably favor playoff-implicating games before long, though.

I predict a blowout loss for the Twins
cant hit Kazmir
> Turn on TV
> Hear the words "pitcher's duel"
> See it's the bottom of the second inning.
Still holding through two and a half! SHOWS WHAT YOU KNOW
Score-wise, I guess it did end up being one.
Yep, I was thinking this.
The Indians hold a commanding lead in the season series in 3rd inning runs, 12-1. See, this is why I can't watch the Minnesota feed anymore. They just don't provide relevant stats like this.
oh my goodness.
TWINS BASEBALL!!
Not catching Willingham in a rundown is PUNISHABLE BY DEATH
Indians trivia: who holds the Twins rookie record for RBI in a season? Answer to follow, unless I'm in the bathroom at the time or something (in which case I'll B-R it). Hmm. A few obvious choices here, but I'm not certain.
That's my final guess as well, with the caveat that I don't know enough about the pre-1980s teams.
Looks like the answer is
yep, never would have guessed him.
that was dumb
If our Win and Loss totals were reversed, I'd be pretty pissed, yeah.
Indians PBP knows subtlety.
"Chris Davis is closing in on the Orioles' all-time single season Home Run record. He's only behind Frank Robinson, who had 49, and Brady Anderson, who had 50 (deliberately clears throat)."
Brady Anderson, havent thought of him in years
looking at his b-r page, he and Curt Schilling was traded by Boston to the O's for Mike Boddicker. huh
It's amazing those clowns ever finally won another championship.
In the DC area a few years, there was an open secret about Brady Anderson.
Dick has to be thrilled about this.
BUNT BUNT BUNT
Bad play by Swisher who looked to have an easy throw home for the out.
Yeah, when I saw how far down the line the runner was when Swisher got the ball, I was supremely annoyed.
this clown show defense is making the White Sox look like Gold Glovers. jeesh
Allowing Doumit to reach base when he's the world's worst hitter in RISP situations is PUNISHABLE BY DEATH
Geez, I guess I know what the punishment will be for any SS non-submitters today.
Consider yourself warned.
I know Cleveland isn't the nicest city around, but I don't realize just how tough it's gotten.
I didn't realize they still had a team!
Hey, the KC Royals are up 4-0 in the second. So they're going to blow a 4-run first-inning lead as they slip back under .500.
I had to think about it to realize that, yes, a team can send seven batters to the plate in an inning and only score one run.
TWINS BASEBALL!!!
thats the way Dick Bremer likes his baseball.
everyone gets involved!
Chris walk to the on-deck circle and tries his best to translate for his teammate.
"Dick Bremer dice que nosotros somos... nadieros," twisting his face on that last one so his friend realizes that it's a guess at the proper word.
Wilkin hangs his head and kicks dirt. Both men spit.
Bremer noting that the Indians strike out a lot. He doesn't seem to realize that the Twins are historically bad at striking out batters.
You mean historically good at not striking out batters.
Pelfrey proving you can also scatter walks.
Clevelands see the math from the top of the inning and guess that they can bat six without scoring at all.
The experiment is a success! Six men run to the dugout, three to retrieve their caps and gloves and to immediately leave to assume their postion on the fields. One of the six to stay, a man named Carlos tells a man, Jason, who never left the dugout, "You were right! We shouldn't have doubted you!"
Tito cusses something about nerds under his breath.
Indians trivia answer (Twins rookie RBI record):
Wouldn't have guessed that...ever.
heh, I just looked that up, and said the same thing.
Oh man, I first read that as Rich Becker...
Wasted lead off double?
TWINS BASEBALL!!
coming into the game, the Twins have only 6 RBI when a runner is on 2nd and 0 outs. .188/.253/.288/.540 slash line in 90 PA
Ugh, so it isn't only pessimistic perception?
I guess
it would take some time (especially since we are 129 games in), but it would be interesting how many times this year a Twins leadoff double has actually scored
Well hey, another shot at it.
Scott feeling good about himself. "27 batters and only one run! In only six innings! Jason told me that some pitchers pitch a complete game and only face 25 batters!"
At this point, Twins victory is inevitable.
Undoubtedly
I don't think that's the word you meant...
Perhaps "loss"?
TWINS BASEBALL!!
brutal
Swisher is the Twins' 10th man out there.
what the heck was that?
Wow. If the Twins lose, it won't be for lack of the Clevelands giving them chances.
Now that is something I haven't seen before.
Willingham should just go ahead and bunt because the ball will end up over the center field fence on an overthrow
so, thats a single?
average going up!
At least the RBI total didn't go down.
That was chock full of TWINS BASEBALL!!
Cristian Guzman-ian swing by Plouffe on that strikeout.
It's too bad this ain't Christian Guzman's Twins, though.
As bad as his K swings were, believe me, I equate him with a Twins team that I miss a lot. And triples? What are they?
They're in Triple A!
Showoff Doubles.
EAT IT SWISHER
Swish swashed at second.
I haven't seen Jack Black have a day this rough since he was kidnapped and forced to host that telethon.
Hard to tell if Florimon got the tag on, but that was a heck of a play all around.
Ooh, excellent slide by Swisher - I figured by his legitimately shocked reaction to being called out that he probably hadn't been tagged.
Ditto. It seemed like he might have been safe and the replay proved it.
oh my, Florimon missed the tag.
Swisher can't get a break. Awful call by Hirschbeck.
Robot umps...blah, blah, blah.
If there's a heaven, I will be watching fools take curveballs for strikes for all eternity. I never get sick of that.
Hahaha, what was that, Kipnis?
You could say that again!
everyone gets an error!
Hey, another error to fail to take advantage of!
yup.
this game is so bad, its now become amusing.
Why didn't Kipnis flip it? Taking it himself was less likely to get the out, and more likely to get someone (most likely himself) hurt.
Plus that weird little stutter step...Kipnis had a really good inning there.
Truly bizarre game
You can say that again. I just checked in and found 1 run on 9 hits and 4 errors.
nooooooo
Meh. A game this goofy probably deserves a loss. Better the Clevelanders catch the Tigers somehow, right?
Indians PBP: "How about that for clutch? 6 of his last 9 home runs in the 7th inning or later."
This says nothing about the game score. Also, it's not a significant split. If it was 9 for 9...maybe.
Well, I'll commend the Twins for keeping my interest for eight innings on a day when the smallest excuse would have yanked me out of this.
I think JeffA was right about limiting innings to two outs each...
Well, it was an awful game, but it was entertaining enough, so there's that.
I'm telling you, two outs per inning is the way to go. The Twins would've won 1-0. Until it happens, though, we'll just have to settle for 90-72! That should still be enough to make the playoffs, right?
