Minor Details: Games of 8/24

Rochester may be playing for the wild card.  The playoffs are slipping away from Elizabethton.  The GCL Twins are eliminated.

INDIANAPOLIS 6, ROCHESTER 4 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Jermaine Mitchell was 4-for-4 and scored once.  Darin Mastroianni was 1-for-2 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching starsVirgil Vasquez struck out six in five innings of relief, giving up one run on four hits and one walk.  A. J. Achter struck out one in a scoreless inning despite giving up thre walks.

Opposition stars:  Graham Godfrey pitched 4.2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing two hits and one walk with two strikeouts.  Travis Snider was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Kelly Shoppach was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Key inning:  The third.  In a scoreless tie, the Indians scored five unearned runs to take control of the game.  Indianapolis got four hits and two walks and the Red Wings made two errors.  Snider had an RBI single, a run scored on a sacrifice fly, and Jared Goedert had an RBI single, and Shoppach drove in two with a single.  Rochester came back with two in the bottom of the inning and closed to 6-4 in the fourth, but never got closer.

Prospect watchEduardo Escobar was 0-for-3 with two walks.  Chris Parmelee was 0-for-4 with an RBI.  Josmil Pinto was 0-for-5.  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-2 with two walks and scored once.

Pennant race update:  Rochester leads the wild card race by one and a half games over Norfolk.

NEW BRITAIN 2, BOWIE 0 IN BOWIE

Batting starsMiguel Sano was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Pitching starsAlex Meyer struck out five in five innings, giving up one hit and two walks.  Cole Johnson struck out two in two innings, giving up one hit and one walks.  Dakota Watts struck out four in two innings, giving up no hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Jake Pettit pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Marcel Prado struck out four in three innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and no walks.  Kyle Hudson was 0-for-1 with three walks.

Key inning:  The fourth.  It was a scoreless tie.  Rosario singled, went to third on a stolen base-plus-error, and scored on a one-out double by Sano to put the Rock Cats in the lead.

Pennant race update:  New Britain is 7.5 games behind Trenton for the last playoff spot.  Their elimination number is three.

ST. LUCIE AT FORT MYERS

Rained out.

CEDAR RAPIDS 1, PEORIA 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting starMichael Quesada was 1-for-3 with a home run, his second.  The Kernels had only three hits.

Pitching starsJosue Montanez pitched 6.1 innings, giving up three hits and one walk with two strikeouts.  Madison Boer struck out two in 2.1 innings, giving up no hits and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Kyle Helisek struck out seven in seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks.

Key inning:  The third.  It was a scoreless tie.  Quesada led off the inning with a home run for the only run of the game.

Prospect watchMax Kepler was 0-for-4.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-2 with a walk.

PULASKI 7, ELIZABETHTON 6 IN PULASKI

Batting starsZach Larson was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Rory Rhodes was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in three.

Pitching starRyan Eades pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Gabe Saquilon struck out five in 5.2 innings of relief, allowing one run on four hits and no walks.  Isaiah Yates was 3-for-4 with a double and two home runs, driving in four.  Dan Kemp was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Mariners had trailed 4-0, led 5-4, and now trailed 6-5.  Kristian Brito led off with a single and with one out, Yates hit a two-run homer to give Pulaski the lead.  The runs came off C. K. Irby, who was pitching his second inning.

Prospect watchZach Granite was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Romy Jimenez was 1-for-4 and scored once.  Logan Wade was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Yorman Landa started and pitched only two innings, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Pennant race update:  Elizabethton is two games behind Greeneville for the last playoff spot.  It's elimination number is five.

GCL RED SOX 4, GCL TWINS 3 AT TWINS

Batting starJorge Fernandez was 1-for-2 with a double and a hit-by-pitch, driving in two.

Pitching starsLewis Thorpe struck out nine in four shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  Miguel Gonzalez struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and one walk.  Tyler Stirewalt pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Myles Smith started and struck out three in three shutout innings, allowing no hits and no walks.  Iseha Conklin was 0-for-1 with two walks and scored once.  Carlos Coste was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Red Sox trailed 2-0.  An error and a single-and-error put runners on second and third with one out.  Joseph Monge singled in a run, a hit batsman loaded the bases, and Coste unloaded them with a three-run double.  The damage came off Leonel Zazueta, who had come in with one out in the previous inning.  The Twins came back with one in the bottom of the inning with three walks and a sacrifice fly, but could get no closer.

Prospect watchAlex Swim was 1-for-3 with an RBI.  Adonis Pacheco was 0-for-4.

Pennant race update:  The GCL Twins have been eliminated from the playoffs.  The GCL season ends Thursday.
