Dominican Digest: Games of 10/23

A pair of Polancos leads Escogido.  Anderson Hernandez slams Oriente.  Moises Sierra's three-run shot leads Licey.

ESCOGIDO 8, AGUILAS 0 IN AGUILAS

Twins:  Danny Santana (Aguilas) was 0-for-3 with a walk.

Escogido:  Gregory Polanco (Pittsburgh) was 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a home run (his third), scoring three times and driving in two.  Miguel Olivo (Seattle) was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a two-run homer, scoring twice.  Jarrett Grube (Angels) struck out five in four innings, giving up three hits and two walks.

Aguilas:  Francisco Pena (Mets) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a double.

The game:  Escogido led off the game with back-to-back doubles by Jorge Polanco (Detroit) and Gregory Polanco, scoring twice in the inning.  Escogido led 4-0 after eight, then put it away with four in the ninth.  Gregory Polanco and Olivo each homered in the ninth inning.

LICEY 7, ORIENTE 4 IN LICEY

Oriente:  Alberto Rosario (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Audy Ciriaco (Miami) was 2-for-4 and scored twice.  Juan Diaz (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Licey:  Jurickson Profar (Texas) was 3-for-5 with a double and scored twice.  Anderson Hernandez was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, driving in five.  Yamaico Navarro (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Oriente scored three in the second to go up 3-0, but Licey came back with five in the third, highlight by a Hernandez grand slam.  Oriente cut the lead to 5-4 in the fourth, but Licey got single runs in the fifth and sixth.

CIBAO 7, ESTE 2 IN ESTE

Cibao:  Moises Sierra (Toronto) was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.  J. C. Linares (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Ruben Mejia (San Diego) pitched 3.2 perfect innings with two strikeouts.

Este:  Eugenio Velez (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 and scored twice.  Matt Hague (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-4.

The game:  Cibao led 2-1 after two, then scored four in the third to put the game out of reach.  Sierra hit a three-run homer in the inning.
