Dominican Digest: Games of 11/2

Deibinson Romero was the hero for Escogido.  Good days for Danny Santana and Jorge Polanco.  Eleven singles produce a win for Aguilas.

AGUILAS 4, ORIENTE 2 IN ORIENTE

TwinsDanny Santana (Aguilas) was 3-for-5 and scored once.  Chris Herrmann (Oriente) was 0-for-2.

Aguilas:  Juan Lagares (Mets) was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.  Zoilo Almonte (Yankees) was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.  Angel Castro (Dodgers) struck out six in 6.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.

Oriente:  Felix Pie (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-4.  Junior Lake (Cubs) was 2-for-4.

The game:  Three singles, a pair of stolen bases, and another single led to a three-run fourth for Aguilas.  They got one more in the sixth.  Oriente scored single runs in the seventh and eighth and had the tying run on base with two out in the eighth.

Random:  Aguilas had eleven hits, all singles.

ESCOGIDO 5, CIBAO 2 IN CIBAO

Twins:  Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 2-for-5 with an RBI.  Deibinson Romero (Escogido) came off the bench to hit a three-run homer, his second, in his only at-bat.

Escogido:  Erik Gonzalez (Cleveland) was 3-for-4 with a run.  Mauro Gomez (Washington) was 2-for-5 with a run.  Carlos Pimentel (Texas) struck out four in four innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks.

Cibao:  Robinzon Diaz (Milwaukee) was 2-for-3 with a double.  Jeff Mandel (Washington) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Three singles and a sacrifice fly put Escogido ahead 2-0 in the third.  Cibao came back with single runs in the fourth and seventh to tie it up.  In the ninth, Romero hit a one-0ut three-run homer to give Escogido the lead.

ESTE 5, LICEY 2 IN LICEY

Este:   Cesar Puello (Mets) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Hector Gomez (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Raul Valdes (Houston) struck out four in four innings, giving up an unearned run on one hit and one walk.

Licey:  Sean Halton (Milwaukee) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

The game:  Este scored two in the second to go up 2-0.  Licey cut it to 2-1 in the fourth, but Este scored three more in the sixth with Jose Ramirez (Cleveland) driving in two of them with a double.  Licey scored one more in the seventh and got the tying run up to bat in that inning.
