Day eight of the playoffs. Twins are instrumental in an extra-inning rally for Escogido.
ESCOGIDO 4, CIBAO 2 IN CIBAO (11 INNINGS)
Twins: Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was used as a pinch-runner and scored. Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
Escogido: Eury Perez (Washington) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a home run, driving in two. Carlos Santana (Cleveland) was 2-for-5 with a home run, his second. Chris Leroux struck out four in four innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks.
Cibao: Leury Garcia (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a run. Maikel Franco (Philadelphia) was 1-for-4 with a walk and a double, driving in one. Jose De Paula (San Francisco) pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.
The game: A sacrifice fly/double play put Cibao on the board in the first. Santana homered to tie it in the top of the sixth, but Franco's RBI double in the bottom of the sixth gave Cibao the lead back at 2-1. Perez homered in the eighth to tie it at two, and there things stayed until the eleventh. In that inning, Polanco singled in Florimon and later came around to score on Perez' single.
LICEY 3, AGUILAS 1 IN LICEY
Twins: Dan Rohlfing (Licey) was used as a reserve and was 0-for-1.
Aguilas: Hector Luna was 2-for-4. Juan Perez (San Francisco) was 1-for-5 with a double.
Licey: Juan Francisco (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and three RBIs. Erick Aybar (Angels) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run. Yunesky Maya pitched six shutout innings, allowing five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
The game: A walk, a single, and two productive outs plated a run in the first for Licey. It stayed 1-0 until the sixth, when Francisco hit a two-run homer to make it 3-0. Aguilas got its lone run on a wild pitch in the seventh. They had two on in the seventh and in the eighth, but did not score.
