Australian Audit: Games of 1/12

Brisbane loads the bases three times and fails to score.  Sydney only scored in the first and last innings, but it was enough.

PERTH 3, BRISBANE 0 IN PERTH

Twins:  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 0-for-1 with three walks.

Brisbane:  Patrick Leonard (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Marcus Bradley was 1-for-3 with two walks.  Matt Bates pitched two shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk.

Perth:  Tim Kennelly (Philadelphia) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Luke Hughes was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Zach Staniewicz (Baltimore) pitched five innings, allowing three hits and three walks.

The game:  Matt Kennelly singled in Hughes with the first run in the second inning.  Perth added two more in the third on a two-run error.  That was all the runs Perth needed.  Brisbane loaded the bases with one out in the second, but a double play ended the threat.  Brisbane put men on second and third with two out in the third, but a popup took care of things.  Brisbane again loaded the bases in the sixth, this time with one out, but again could not get the ball out of the infield.  A single and two walks loaded the bases one more time in the ninth, with two out this time, but a ground out ended the game.  Brisbane had four hits and eight walks, stranding eleven men.

SYDNEY 3, CANBERRA 2 IN SYDNEY (12 INNINGS)

Canberra:  Jon Berti (Toronto) was 1-for-4 with two walks.  Clint Everts struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and two walks.

Sydney:  Mitch Dening was 3-for-5 with a walk and two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Keon Broxton (Arizona) was 3-for-6 with two RBIs.  Luke Wilkins pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  RBI singles by Dening and Broxton put Sydney ahead 2-0 in the first.  Canberra got one in the second on a double play.  There was no more scoring until the sixth, when Jason Sloan singled in a run to tie the score.  The bats then fell silent until the twelfth, when Zach Shepherd singled, went to third on a Dening double, and scored on Broxton's single to win the game.

ADELAIDE 3, MELBOURNE 2 IN ADELAIDE

Melbourne:  Jared Schlehuber (Kansas City) was 3-for-4 with a walk and a double, driving in two.  Josh Davies was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Freddy Flores pitched 4.2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing four hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

Adelaide:  Ben Lodge was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Josh Cakebread was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once.  Matthew Williams pitched 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Lodge singled in a run in the second to put Adelaide up 1-0.  John Cannon (Dodgers) had a two-run single in the fourth to make it 3-0.  Melbourne finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh as Schlehuber drove in two with a bases-loaded single.  Melbourne had men on first and third with two out, but a strikeout ended the inning.  Melbourne loaded the bases in the ninth, again with two out, but a fly ball ended the game.
