MAYAGUEZ 7, CAROLINA 2 IN MAYAGUEZ
Twins: Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 1-for-3 with a double.
Carolina: Juan Centeno (Mets) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run. Jose Rivera (Colorado) was 2-for-3 with a run. Osvaldo Martinez (Dodgers) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Mayaguez: Dee Gordon (Dodgers) was 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Randy Ruiz was 1-for-3 with a home run. Jeremy Kehrt (Boston) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
The game: Mayaguez scored four in the second on two singles, two errors, a ground out, another single, and another ground out. Each team scored once in the fifth to make it 5-1. Gordon singled in two in the sixth for Mayaguez to put the game out of reach.
CAGUAS 5, PONCE 0 IN PONCE
Caguas: Rey Navarro (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one. Ramon Castro was 1-for-2 with a walk and a home run. John Brownell pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
Ponce: Jeff Dominguez was 1-for-2 with a walk. Logan Williamson pitched 7.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
The game: It was scoreless through five. Castro led off the sixth with a home run to give Caguas a 1-0 lead. Caguas scored again in the eighth on a home run by Edgardo Baez. They put it out of reach in the ninth when Miguel Abreu singled, Navarro tripled, and Neftali Soto (Cincinnati) hit a two-run homer. Ponce's biggest scoring threat came in the second, when they got three walks, but a double play after the first two damaged the threat and a fly out ended it.
