Scoring by twos is better than scoring by ones.  Scoring by ones is better than scoring by zeroes.

BRISBANE 4, MELBOURNE 2 IN MELBOURNE

Twins:  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 0-for-4.

Brisbane:  Brad Dutton was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Justin O'Conner (Tampa Bay) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in two.  Casey Barnes pitched six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Melbourne:  Justin Trapp (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Scott Wearne was 2-for-3 with a double and a run.  Trevor Holder pitched three shutout innings, allowing no hits and three walks with one strikeout.

The game:  All the scoring came in the fifth and sixth innings.  In the top of the fifth, two singles preceded a two-run double by O'Conner to put Brisbane ahead 2-0.  Trapp homered in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth, Dutton's RBI single brought in one and an error brought in another to make the score 4-1 Brisbane.  An error brought in a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 4-2.  And that was it for the scoring.  Melbourne loaded the bases with one out in the eighth on a single, a hit batsman, and an error, but the next two batters struck out and Melbourne did not get a man on base again.

PERTH 2, CANBERRA 0 IN CANBERRA

Perth:  Brandon Tripp was 3-for-3 with a walk, a triple, and a home run (his ninth), scoring twice.  Daniel Schmidt pitched seven innings, giving up three hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Canberra:  Steven Chambers pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Aaron Thompson pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

The game:  It was scoreless until the fourth, when two singles, a ground out, and a wild pitch put Perth ahead 1-0.  Tripp homered in the sixth to make it 2-0.  Canberra had only three hits and did not get a man past first base.

ADELAIDE 7, SYDNEY 2 IN ADELAIDE

Sydney:  Boss Moanaroa was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Keon Broxton (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with a double.  Zach Shepherd was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Adelaide:  Byron Wiley was 1-for-1 with three walks and a home run (his second), scoring three times.  Stefan Welch (Boston) was 2-for-3 with a walk and two doubles, scoring once and driving in two.  Matthew Williams pitched seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and one walk with six strikeouts.

The game:  Wiley's homer in the third opened the scoring, putting Adelaide ahead 1-0.  Chris Jacobs hit a two-run homer in the fourth to make it 3-0.  Moanaroa homered in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-1, but in the bottom of the fifth, Welch doubled in two and later scored on a stolen base-plus-error to put the game out of reach at 6-1.
