Mexican Matchups: Game of 1/19

Yunesky Sanchez Zelously boosts Hermosillo into the championship series.

HERMOSILLO 4, LOS MOCHIS 2 IN HERMOSILLO

Los Mochis:  Sandy Madera was 3-for-5 with a home run.

Hermosillo:  Yunesky Sanchez was 3-for-3 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and two runs.  Zelous Wheeler was 3-for-3 with a walk and two doubles, scoring once.  Bryan Evans (Miami) struck out six in five shutout innings of relief, allowing three hits and no runs.

The game:  It looked good for Los Mochis early.  Jesus Arredondo (Dodgers) singled in a run in the second and Madera homered in the third to give Los Mochis a 2-0 lead.  Hermosillo came back in the fourth, getting three singles (on an RBI base hit by Adan Munoz) and a sacrifice fly to tie it.  Hermosillo took the lead in the fifth when Wheeler doubled and Sanchez hit a two-out two-run homer to make the score 4-2.  Los Mochis tried to mount a rally in the ninth, putting men on first and second with two out, a fly out ended the game.

PLAYOFF SERIES

Navojoa defeated Mexicali four games to one.
Hermosillo defeated Los Mochis four games to three.

Navojoa and Hermosillo will play for the championship.
