  1. I got almost 4 consecutive hours of sleep last night, and about 8 in total. When I woke up, I could breathe. Still coughing a bit, but I'm doing a lot better than yesterday.

      1. also, the Richie Incognito Charm Offensive has begun.

I guess his agent maybe got through to him that if he ever wants to work in the NFL again, he'd better start at least pretending nice.

        My favorite:

        Oh, yea. "No hard feelings."

          1. This was my first thought when I saw this comment, before DPWY's movie post:

        1. What I don't get is how anyone associated with the NFL even tangentially could ever defend his actions. He has a whole string of behavioral problems all the way back to college. The only thing I'll say about him is that he's likely suffering from some sort of mental illness and probably needs professional help

          1. I concur and I would add that if any NFL team decides to bring him on, there should be no surprise at the result.

  2. Philosofette's grandfather passed away this weekend. He was 91, lived a full life, was ready to go, and spent his last weeks surrounded by friends and family. If ever there's a way to do it right, he did. The guy was also a pretty awesome storyteller. This isn't one of his, but it's a good one about him:

      1. I was at that game sitting down the row from a bunch of Radke's extended family. At one point, a "special" beer man came by serving some specialty beers. The Radkes were having none of it and yelled at him, "Send Wally over with the good stuff!"

It was way more hilarious than I'm describing.

    1. LaTroy signed with the Twins two months after Oswaldo Arcia was born--two years before Miguel Sano was born.

      1. Back in 2004, when LaTroy left the Twins for the Cubs, I would have thought you were on drugs if you would have suggested that he'd pitch for as many different teams (10) as Jesse Orosco.

        1. If you would have suggested he'd still be in the league 10 years later at all, I'd have taken that bet.

        2. He's got a pretty decent chance this year of becoming the 16th player in MLB history to crack 1,000 games pitched. He's pitched in almost 600 games since he left the Twins.

        1. Does it help to know that this will be the second season that Morneau and Hawkins have been on the same team?

    2. My recollection of my thoughts at the time was that Hawkins was a great set-up reliever but had a mental hiccough that kept him from closing.
I wouldn't have called it "toughness", but he seemed to be good except when the game could be finished. Like he relaxed too early.
Looking at his b-r splits page, either he left that behind or it was me not looking deeper at things. At least I didn't call him a bum. I liked him lots, just in the eighth or extra innings at home.

  3. Science Fair season is coming up. Most Citizen's kids are still probably a little too young, but it's coming:

    1. This looks similar to my kid's 4-H presentations. Extra points for using "half-baked", but I think the 15 hour estimate is a couple orders of magnitude too high.

    1. We have a couple of those on the main floor and after 8 years I still usually need to flip multiple times before I get whatever light I'm looking for.

    2. We have just one, but they're buttons instead of switches. I don't know why, but several of our light switches are instead buttons.

    3. Yup, three light switches just inside our front door. Six years later, I still don't know what the third one does.

    4. I made one in our old house. I meant to make a 2-way switch for the basement stair lights with a new one in the basement. I put in a 3-gang outlet box (two other simple switches). Then I realized how far back I would have to cut the wall to put in the new wire and I scratched it. I filled the blank with a switch. When it was time to rent it, the management company said that I needed to put in an actual blank. 🙁

    1. I get a kick out of looking at these, but I give up immediately and look at the spoilers instead of even trying to guess.

        1. See, that last one you did has me questioning what letters initial letters are actually supposed to represent.

    1. You and the Post are totally burying the lede here--guns make sports safer!! Obviously if hockey players were allowed to carry rifles on their backs, injury rates would rapidly decline.

  4. Today's BS Report. Simmons goes on for 45 minutes about half baked Kevin Love trade offers!

    1. You couldn't pay me to listen to (watch?) that. I just tried to slog through his "Worst NBA Contracts" article and about a third of the way through resorted to just skipping down and reading the names. His entire shtick has grown incredibly stale to me.

(Actually, I do like a lot of Grantland--just none of his contributions.)

      1. Gun to my head, I'd read a Simmons column over Reilly, but that's as much praise as I'm willing to give him.

          Yup, these are my readers.

  5. My roommate's dog had some serious separation anxiety. She's been barking for the last five minutes after my roommate left for work.

    1. My date just got rescheduled, so I let Olive out of her crate. She's a bit of a spaz. I suspect a combination of puppy energy and lax training.
