COLUMBUS 5, ROCHESTER 3 IN COLUMBUS
Batting stars: Deibinson Romero was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two. Oswaldo Arcia was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
Pitching stars: Kris Johnson struck out eight in 5.2 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks. Aaron Thompson pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars: Ex-Twin Matt Carson was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a home run (his third), scoring twice. Tim Fedroff was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run. Kyle Davies pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk.
The game: Romero hit a two-run single in the second to give Rochester a 2-0 lead. Columbus got single runs in the third and the sixth to tie the score. In the seventh, Giovanny Urshula's RBI double gave the Clippers the lead and Carson's two-run homer made it 5-2. The Red Wings tried to get back into it. They got one in the eighth and left the bases loaded. In the ninth, they had two on with one out. In both cases, though, they could do no further damage.
Of note: Eric Farris was 2-for-4. Chris Parmelee was 0-for-4. Wilkin Ramirez was 0-for-3 with a run. Matt Guerrier pitched one inning, giving up three runs on three hits.
NEW BRITAIN 6, TRENTON 0 IN NEW BRITAIN
Batting stars: Kenny Wilson was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, scoring twice. Kennys Vargas was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in two. Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Pitching stars: Taylor Rogers pitched 6.1 innings, giving up five hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Cole Johnson retired all eight batters he faced, striking out two.
Opposition stars: Rob Segedin was 2-for-4 with a double. Carmen Angelini was 2-for-2 with a walk. Taylor Garrison pitched three shutout innings, allowing two hits with one strikeout.
The game: RBI singles by Vargas and Reynaldo Rodriguez gave New Britain a 2-0 lead. Ortiz singled in two as part of a three-run third to make it 5-0. Trenton only once got a man to third, with two out in the seventh inning.
Of note: Corey Wimberley was 1-for-5. Nate Hanson was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.
FORT MYERS 4, BRADENTON 0 IN FORT MYERS
Batting stars: Byron Buxton was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer. Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, his second. Niko Goodrum was 2-for-3 with a double and a run.
Pitching stars: Steven Gruver came out of the bullpen to make the start and worked four innings, giving up three hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Tim Shibuya struck out three in three innings, giving up a hit and a walk. Brandon Peterson struck out three in one inning, giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition star: Adam Frazier was 3-for-4 with a double.
The game: Buxton hit a two-run homer in the first and Kepler hit a two-run homer in the second, and that was it for scoring. The only time Bradenton got a man to third was in the eighth, when Frazier hit a one-out double and went to third on a two-out wild pitch.
Of note: Levi Michael was 2-for-4. Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Travis Harrison was 0-for-3. Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-3.
QUAD CITIES 10, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN QUAD CITIES
Batting stars: J. D. Williams was 2-for-2 with a double and two walks, scoring once. Bryan Haar was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.
Pitching star: Alex Muren pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars: Tyler White was 5-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs. James Ramsey was 3-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring three times. Chan Moon was 2-for-5 with two triples and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.
The game: This one was over early. Five of the first six Quad Cities batters reached, leading to three first-inning runs. Haar got one back on a home run in the second, but the River Bandits got five more in the second, all after two were out, to put the game away. Cedar Rapids got back to 8-4, but came no closer.
Of note: Zach Larson was 0-for-3. Mitch Garver was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Starter Josue Montanez lasted only 1.2 innings, surrendering eight runs on seven hits and three walks with one strikeout.
