Today is my employer's last day in St. Paul. Everyone needs to be packed up today and then "working" from home Thursday-Friday while a lot of stuff gets moved. Then we show up at the fancy new digs in Bloomington on Monday with sunglasses and sunscreen because we'll be getting a lot more sun in a proper office tower. I'll miss the single-leg commute but not much else of the current building.

You'll also miss us!
As a proper Minneapolitan (please tell me no one actually says that), this was always how I bid St. Paul goodbye:
That exact clip has already been used internally.
proper Minneapolitan
Relatedly, if anyone wants to get lunch today, I'm available. Preferably in St. Paul so I can just walk.
Looks like I'll be in town for the 9 July game against the Orioles. One of Pops' friends organizes a game-together every summer for whomever can make it from Pops' family and friends. My plans haven't totally come into focus yet – other than I'm flying solo and am not particularly interested in making it a day trip– but other than food before or after the game and a trip to Magers & Quinn, I don't have any definitive agenda. I wouldn't mind attending my first caucus if folks were interested.
I think Isbell is in town that weekend.
I heard he's giving me a comp ticket since I'll be in town.
Ooooh, my birthday! I am in favor of a caucus this weekend.
(yeah, "hint hint", everyone attending)
(and not attending)
A year or two ago I shared this on Facebook, and it's always worth a reshare. Great advice from Bill Watterson.
Our work filter is getting more ridiculous by the day. This was blocked because it's listed as a "file sharing" site. And I can't go to baseball-reference anymore because it's a gaming site.
We have a family wedding just south of Philly in October, and we've begun making a vacation out of it. So far the plans are to fly into Buffalo and do the Niagara Falls thing, then trip over to the Adirondacks and put up base at Lake Placid for a while with at least a day trip into Vermont that's partially family history related. Not sure if we do Hershey or something else in PA before winding up at the wedding HQ. Mrs Runner even suggested Cooperstown, although she would be totally bored, and I think I'd rather be there for an event, like Joe's HOF induction or something. Anyway, any suggestions are welcome.
Cooperstown is quite amazing, if that's still on the table. There are some other nearby museums and such too that can make the stop about more than just baseball, if that's the urge. I have a very good friend who works here. Also, Ommegang brewery.
Yeah, breweries are not an interest to either of us.
If I do Cooperstown, I don't want to be encumbered by a bored Mrs Runner. Same reason I haven't been to the Negro Leagues Museum yet.
Champlin Park with the buzzer beater to beat Chaska and move on in state.

Nothing will ever beat this game. I was the sports editor for the local newspaper for Declo. I was underneath Declo's hoop on both shots.
This is in Idaho, by the way, in the Idaho Center in Nampa.
Kimberly and Declo were from the same league. This was their fifth game that season. It capped Declo's undefeated season. They played twice during league play, twice during sectional playoffs and then the state championship game. Every game, Kimberly came closer and closer to winning but couldn't quite do it.
If my kids went to public schools, CP would be their high school.
In the WBC championship game intros, Rosario took off his hat to reveal a blond stripe down the middle of his head. couldn't quite tell if the darker hair was shorter to make it more of a Mohawk or not. National pride is great and all that, but I wonder if most people realize the U.S. has already won considering Puerto Rico is a territory of the U.S. Not sure who I want to win tonight, but this is definitely the result I wanted with U.S. vs. Puerto Rico in the final since there are 4 Twins on the Puerto Rico team. I would be cheering harder for PR if they had started Berrios tonight like they originally had said instead of Seth Lugo.
I was sort of pulling for a Puerto Rico win, but I didn't mind Strommen getting a huge clutch start after all the business he (and his mom) went through after deciding to play for the US instead of Puerto Rico.
Kaat has been dropping Twins anecdotes pretty much the whole WBC. Was just talking about "Everyday Eddie".
Speaking of Twins anecdotes, J.C. Romero is coming in for Berrios... 😐
I don't know what's going on anymore, you guys.
Yeah, I didn't know that Romero was on the Puerto Rican team, so that was a bit of a surprise.
I guess it hadn't been that long ago that he was still playing in MLB, though.
It's always sort of surprising when some players don't cease to exist when they stop playing for the Twins. Like how it always baffles me that Scott Erickson played until 2006.
Erickson seemed old to me in 1991, so yeah.
I've shared this before, but my favorite Romero story is from when we went to Fort Myers.
We were watching batting practice and fielding practice on the side fields when Sheenie needed to use the bathroom. She found one tucked underneath Hammond Stadium near the batting cages, but she came right back out because the door wouldn't lock and she didn't want anyone to walk in on her. Minutes later, Romero approached and downtown several minutes fidgeting with the door but was unable to get it open. He finally gave up and wandered off. Sheenie reapproached and confirmed that the door was unlocked because it couldn't lock.
Tl/Dr: Romero somehow got locked outside of a door that didn't lock.
