May 31, 2017: Happy Fevver Day

That was an old thing with old friends from years ago. Enjoy the holiday!

(What? It's not like there's any other weird, nonsensical words in the news lately.)

  1. I have always been happy with the covfefe this site provides for in the subjects ofkelhosojlssos...zzzz

    1. Yikes. There's nothing difficult here.

Though I am a tad dubious that the Mary Poppins song got in there. That raises a couple of questions.

      1. You have to note that it is based upon most searches on the word. I don't think I have ever used google to search for proper spelling except the Mary Poppins song. Trivia argument. Mostly, auto correct fixes my misspelled items.

      2. Funnily enough, the jalapeno heard the song "Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious" for the first time last weekend and he's using the word at every possible opportunity.

I wonder who looks up a word with "how to spell," though. Seems more like something a kid would do? I either go to the online dictionary or just type in the word itself.

        1. just type in the word itself
There, that. Which is why I find Georgia most convincing.

        1. South Dakota doesn't have colleges. We officially changed them all to universities in 1989.

            1. Mount Marty is in Yankton, which is practically in Nebraska. It doesn't count.

    2. Looks like pneumonia and beautiful are the most common?

Seriously, why does anyone in Alabama need to know how to spell pneumonia?

      1. why does anyone in Alabama need to know how to spell pneumonia?
They're fans of the best Fog song ever:

It's like Neil Young vs the Invisibl Skratch Piklz!

    3. One word I can never spell is "rhythm". The word makes no sense to me whatsoever.

    4. Props to Georgia for getting into a debate over preferred American vs British spelling.
      "Gray"

    5. Some of these are just killing me. Special? Twelve? People? Nanny?!

I know we live in a bubble at this site, but holy crap, gang.

  2. I really have no idea how people survived things as simple as a cold before decongestants. Also, you don't really appreciate the ability to breathe through your nose until it's taken away.

    1. No kidding, I just got back from a trip to Indiana and whatever is in the air made it nearly impossible to breathe through my nose. Mornings were particularly awful.

    2. I have my last follow-up appointment in about ninety minutes for the nose surgery I had earlier this month. It's great to breath again, but I hadn't even noticed how bad it was until I got it fixed.

  3. Don't look now, but Jason Castro currently leads all AL catchers in rWAR and is second overall in the AL with 1.1 defensive rWAR. His offensive numbers aren't great, but his 95 OPS+ is better than his career OPS+.

    1. Just helped himself out a bit:

Jason Castro homers (4) on a fly ball to center field. Chris Gimenez scores.

  4. Off to see Ha Ha Tonka at the Turf.
TBH, I forgot about this show. First time I can probably say that about HHT in concert.

    1. They're still good and the new songs flow well with the old. Their last show in town was in September 2013! From four times a year to once in four years!
They replaced their cover of "Black Betty" with "Proud Mary" in the style of Ike and Tina, with Luke satisfactorily replacing Ike's bass voice.

        1. I like it, though I haven't listened to it nearly as much as I have with the others at this point after the release.
I think they're mellowing out a bit, part because their lives are changing and maybe with a little hope of landing some of that Lumineers stuff (see video below). The small change was sortof indicated by their previous album.
I don't know if I would have been as drawn to them if this album was my introduction. The draw was always equal parts Brian's vox (with harmonies) and Brett's screaming guitar; but there's less of that guitar now.
I'll probably get a lot more mixtapes-for-my-wife-and-kids use out of it than older ones.

  5. Four straight days of ass arms. I know the Astros are good, but Jiminy Cricket.

  6. Yikes.

    AL Wins Above Average:
    Twins AP - 15th, -3.0
    Twins SP - 13th, -0.3
    Twins RP - 14th, -2.6

      1. My hope is that promoting him from AA means they think he can actually pitch, rather than him being yet another desperation move. It's time to actually make a plan to improve the bullpen, rather than endlessly running through temporary stopgaps.

        1. he's been in the minors since 2011. Granted, he was only 17 then, but.... 7.5:3.6 K:BB per nine does not exactly inspire confidence. Seems more like a stopgap. He's been on the 40-man since November 2015.

there just aren't a lot of options on the 40-man roster. Nick Tepesch? Mason Melotakis? Felix Jorge? Fernando Romero?

          1. You're probably right about Romero. I'm just getting tired of this cycle where we bring a guy up, he makes two appearance, we send him out, we bring up another guy, he makes two appearances, we send him out, lather, rinse, repeat. It's time to actually make some improvements to the bullpen, rather than just constantly trying to figure out how we're going to get through the next few days.

    1. Help. They keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means.
