Minor Details: Games of June 8

Byron Buxton makes his St. Paul debut.  Ernie De La Trinidad stays hot.  A pair of homers aren't enough for the Wind Surge.  Edouard Julien keeps hitting.

ST. PAUL 4, OMAHA 1 IN ST. PAUL

The Saints scored three in the eighth to break a 1-1 tie.  Sherman Johnson's two-run single put St. Paul ahead.

Batting stars:  Byron Buxton was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk.  Drew Maggi was 2-for-4.  Daniel Descalso was 1-for-4 with a home run.

Pitching stars:  Charlie Barnes struck out seven in six innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks.  Ian Hamilton struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up a walk.  Danny Coulombe struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition star:  Carlos Hernandez pitched two perfect innings in what was a bullpen game for the Storm Chasers.

Good stats:  Buxton made his St. Paul debut and is batting .667.  Hamilton has an ERA of 1.38.  Barnes has an ERA of 2.20.  Coulombe has an ERA of 2.35.

Bad stats:  Descalso raised his average to .073.  Keon Broxton was 0-for-2 and is batting .163.

Record:  The Saints are 16-15, in third place in the AAA East-Midwest, 5.5 games behind Omaha.

TULSA 8, WICHITA 3 IN TULSA

The Wind Surge led 3-2 through six, but Jeren Kendall hit a three-run homer in the seventh and the Drillers added three more in the eighth.

Batting stars:  Ernie De La Trinidad was 3-for-4 with a double.  Caleb Hamilton was 1-for-4 with a home run, his third.

Pitching star:  Josh Winder struck out nine in five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Donovan Casey was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Kendall was 2-for-5 with two home runs (his fourth and fifth) and four RBIs.

Good stats:  B. J. Boyd was 0-for-4 and is batting .344.  De La Trinidad is batting .333.  Jermaine Palacios was 0-for-2 and is batting .310.  Jose Miranda was 0-for-4 and is batting .309.  Aaron Whitefield was 0-for-2 and is batting .306.  Winder has an ERA of 2.27.

Bad stats:  Peter Mooney was 0-for-3 and is batting .167.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 18-13, in second place in the AA Central-North, a half game behind Tulsa.

BELOIT 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN BELOIT

The Kernels scored four in the third to take a 4-1 lead, but the Snappers scored two in the fifth and two more in the eighth to win it.  Griffin Conine singled home the go-ahead run.

Batting stars:  Spencer Steer was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, his fifth.  Wander Javier was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.

Pitching star:  Cody Lawyerson struck out four in four innings, giving up one run on two hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Thomas Jones was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Jackson Rose pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out three.

Good stats:  Daniel Ozoria was 1-for-3 and is batting .333.  Lawyerson has an ERA of 2.25.

Bad stats:  Leobaldo Cabrera was 0-for-3 and is batting .176.  Gabriel Maciel was 0-for-3 and is batting .190.  Owen Griffith gave up two runs in two innings and has an ERA of 7.98.

Record:  The Kernels are 13-18, in fifth place in the High-A Central-West, 7.5 games behind Quad Cities.

FORT MYERS 7, JUPITER 4 IN JUPITER

The Mighty Mussels scored four in the seventh to overcome a 4-3 deficit.

Batting stars:  Keoni Cavaco was 2-for-5.

Pitching stars:  Denny Bentley struck out six in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Osiris German struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up two walks.

Opposition stars:  J. D. Orr was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, and two runs.  Victor Mesa, Jr. was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.  Eury Perez struck out eight in four innings, giving up two unearned runs on two hits.

Starter:  Sawyer Gipson-Long struck out nine in five innings but allowed four runs on six hits and two walks.

Good stats:  Kyle Schmidt was 1-for-4 and is batting .344.  Edouard Julien was 1-for-3 and is batting .320.

Bad stats:  Justin Washington was 1-for-5 and is batting .097.  Aaron Sabato was 1-for-5 and is batting .171.  Misael Urbina was 0-for-3 and is batting .171. Bentley lowered his ERA to 5.28.  Gipson-Long has an ERA of 7.66.

Record:  The Mighty Mussels are 17-14, tied for third place with Clearwater in the Low-A Southeast-West, five games behind Tampa.
