Minor Details: Games of September 26

Too bad the Kernels couldn't have borrowed some runs from the Saints.

ST. PAUL 11, IOWA 1 IN ST. PAUL

The Saints scored three in the second and led the rest of the way.  They had ten hits and drew thirteen walks.

Batting stars:  Jose Miranda was 3-for-6 with a double and three RBIs.  David Banuelos was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third), a double, a walk, two runs, and three RBIs.  B. J. Boyd was 1-for-2 with  a triple, three walks, and two RBIs.  Drew Maggi was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs.

Pitching stars:  Andrew Albers pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks.  Ian Hamilton struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Derek Law pitched a perfect inning and struck out one.  Ian Gibaut pitched a perfect innings and struck out one.

Opposition star:  Christopher Morel was 1-for-4 with a home run.

Good stats:  Miranda is batting .341.  Law has an ERA of 2.84.

Bad stats:  Gibaut has an ERA of 6.70.

Record:  The Saints are 4-1 in the "final stretch", tied for third in the AAA East, one game behind Durham and Nashville.

QUAD CITIES 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN QUAD CITIES

The River Bandits scored two in the first.

Batting stars:  Michael Helman was 1-for-3 with a walk.  The Kernels had just two hits.

Pitching stars:  Derek Molina struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.  Tyler Palm pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Tucker Bradley was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.  Eric Cole was 2-for-4 with a double.  A. J. Block struck out five in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Starter:  Cody Laweryson pitched one-third of an inning, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks.

Record:  The Kernels lose the best-of-five series, 2-3.
