May 6, 2024: Beef

Like many things in pop culture, there's a lot I just let pass by in the night without feeling the need to get involved. Currently that includes the discourse on diss tracks.

  1. Not only do I let them pass by, I usually (as in this case) have to google it to find out what it even is.

    1. I'm with the Padre. (though in this case I heard a story on NPR covering this beef...... let that sink in......)

  2. Six weeks from today, the moving truck will come and Mrs. A and I will ride off into retirement.

    1. Highpoint are Tamarind alumns and good folks. Nice to see them get some national love.

    1. I don't understand how people are able to sit through sports talk shows?

      1. Some people enjoy sniffing other people's brain farts. I can't figure it out either.

        1. When I was working road crew doing sewer inspections, my coworker (who 99% of the time we got along great) liked to listen to KFAN

We got in a big argument about which ever Wild player it was who was unhappy with his contract and was threatening to sit. (c 2018ish?)

I was far more labor-adjacent in my view than either him or the radio fellas

    2. What's really dumb about this is that NBA contract rules means that Ant can make a lot more money re-signing with the Timberwolves. Also already he's been in a movie and has one of the top selling shoes out there. Moving up in the social media follows as well. He's not leaving any money on the table staying in Minnesota.

      1. I mean, how long has it been since going to New York or LA meant getting more exposure, at least 20-30 years?

        1. Unfortunately these takes are more about the media guy getting more exposure. Which of course I took the bait.

      1. I suspect you could put together a list like that for just about every city.

            1. Also, in hindsight, I'm glad ii left. (and the Kevin's left because they were done dirty by Glen and his minions)

  3. Since at least a few people on here are somewhat sympathetic to this topic...

The good birds have been moving in! In the past week we've had first-of-year Goldfinches and Orioles, plus a few that we don't get every year - including a Rose-breasted Grosbeak (two years in a row now!), a Purple Finch, and a Brown Thrasher. The only warbler I've see were the Yellow-Rumped, but I'm hopeful a few others will move through too.

    1. I saw some cool birds in Colorado that I don't see around here at all, a lot of prairie hawks and magpies and Western bluebirds.

    2. I'm not quite to "taken up birding" yet, but I do have some small binoculars on my desk that I look out the window at stuff with.

A few turkeys were over in the alfalfa field the other day, that was neat.

      1. There's a flock or turkeys that visits our feeders when I keep them filled. I also regularly see turkey vultures circling and I finally got to see them up close a few days ago on the way to the bus stop. I couldn't see any carrion though.

      2. When we first moved into the Lawson Commons building there were peregrine falcons nesting in the tower of the Landmark Center and we were on the 12th floor. We kept a table and chair and binoculars by a window for falcon watching, it was great.

        1. Back when I was gainfully employed, our offices were on the 17th floor. We would occasionally see clouds of pigeon feathers exploding in the air from a hawk strike.

  4. Sounds like Rudy is questionable tonight. Speculation is that his girlfriend is in labor.

        1. Yeah, it sounds like its just logistics and there's optimism he'll get there in time.

    1. As is the norm on Twitter, I'm seeing a ton of people saying how awful people are if they criticize Rudy for missing a game but I'm not seeing anyone actually criticizing Rudy. The perpetual outrage is exhausting.

  5. Rolling into my chem final. I’ve got a 97%. Though the ACS is rumored to be harder than the previous course tests.

  6. Gleeman today:

Instead, the Twins have turned to Austin Martin, a rookie converted infielder, and Castro, a super-utility man, as the fill-in center fielders. Margot has logged a grand total of four innings in center field all season and it’s been more than a month since he’s played the position. On the day the Twins put Buxton on the shelf, Baldelli didn’t even mention Margot as one of the replacement options.

    Twins:
