The boy had a sleepover at his karate dojo over the weekend. I was thinking about some similar events I had at that age and how formative they can be. I still remember several of them pretty vividly.

I have developed pretty strong feelings in opposition to sleepovers - or, at a minimum, sleepovers where there isn't a strong supervisory role/structure. I'm too aware of too many awful situations. And, looking back, if I'm honest, I was exposed to a fair amount of garbage during the ones I attended as a kid.
I hear what you're saying, and I also feel like it's a tricky balance between safety and letting kids explore a certain amount of independence. I think it depends on the kid and the exact circumstances, though. The jalapeno went through a phase when he wanted to host a lot of sleepovers (typically with 1 or 2 other kids), and it was not the most fun in terms of me getting a great night of sleep, but it did ensure supervision!
95% of the sleepovers I had as a kid were at my place because my parents wanted to keep an eye on things. Our kids have not asked yet for any sleepovers, but when they do, it'll either be at our place or we'll have to get to know the other parents very well through day trips to the other home and asking about guns in the house.
But yeah, some of my awesome childhood memories are from sleepovers. Staying up too late. Eating pure sugar to try to stay awake. Video game tournaments. Sometimes even dinner and games with my parents.
Co-sign. I’m willing to host sleepovers and unwilling to entertain others held at homes of people I don’t know very well. My parents were more lax, but it was A Different Time.
We hosted the senior prom night sleepover -- 18 girls. Oof da.
Oh, my. You and your Mrs. are saints.
It actually didn't go too badly, minus getting a full night's sleep. We had a chuckle when one if the girls bragged about sleeping with the prom queen
Y'all should drive up to Morehead tonight for Sturgill!
Do you mean Moorhead?
Yes. Obviously.
We are pretty sensitive, what with Morehead, KY and MSU and all
I see that!
It’s a typo I cannot correct.
$32!!
Cheapest I'm seeing for tomorrow is $150
Yes, those prices caught my attention too!
Until I realized it is 7 hours round trip.
Tigers win this afternoon. Also puts Tampa on brink of elimination.
Twins only need to tie one of the Tigers or Royals to earn the final wild card. It's a very low bar and they still might not make it.
Pitchers for the Marlins don't look very good this series, but I'm still not convinced the Twins will be able to actually score on them.
It will also be interesting with Baltimore over the weekend. They'll probably be locked in as #1 Wildcard by Friday and will want to set up the rotation for playoffs.
I'm rooting for Baltimore to somehow lose a bunch and all 3 wild cards to come from the central.
Unless KC can right their losing streak, they potentially have an even more disappointing season end than Twins are going through
So, uh, Connections: Sports Edition?
This appears to only be available in the app? That's too bad.
This puzzle was pretty much a gimme.
It worked for me on a (mobile) web browser when I clicked directly on the tweet above.
That would have been a good idea to try. I was looking on the games menu and didn't spot it. It appears to be under The Athletic versus the others are in the Puzzles or Games category. But, it was available in the menu this morning so I will simply have to skip game #1.
The Minnesota Twins are going to win their baseball game tonight.
Maybe not.
Kepler not expected to return this year. Paddack questionable.
Twins not expected to return this year.
Can they just bring up the whole StP roster?
Wallner just left the game with what looked like a side strain. Oblique?
No, that comment was right to the point.
Heh.
