  1. We're hosting most of the in-laws Thursday. There was already annoying drama about what time we should have everything ready with my SIL wanting us to have things ready by 11:30 so they could go to her boyfriend's parent's place that afternoon. So, since that is insane, they just aren't coming and I'll have the turkeys ready by 1:30, thank you very much. I was planning to smoke one of them, but it might be too cold for that to really work so I may just end up grilling it and tossing some wood chunks on the coals.

  2. First Thanksgiving in Indiana in...9 years? Last one was 2015 right after my grandpa died.

My brother is out of the AF and they moved back to Iowa where Indiana is a reasonable option again.

Not jazzed about 14 hrs in the car, but there are also not too many more chances for this in the future.

  3. For the first time in many years both daughters will be here and will have their menfolk with them, so we're having a quiet, calm immediate family dinner. Turkey and ham, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese (elder daughter's request), green bean casserole, deviled eggs, dinner rolls, relish tray, pumpkin and pecan pie.

  4. We typically just have the 4 of us for Thanksgiving. My son is bringing his girlfriend and we are without our daughter, who is in Spain. I will brine, then smoke a boneless turkey breast. We will probably play some mexican train dominoes, primarily because I always lose in that stupid game.

I offered to my staff that if people needed hours/tips, I would open at 5pm as there is definitely a demand in our area. There was not much interest, which is what I hoped. I didn't really want to work on an overstuffed belly.

  5. We never travel for Thanksgiving. This year we’ll be repeating last year by ordering 50 pieces of Popeyes and all the sides and not cooking a thing. Okay, not technically cooking, but we are baking a pie.

    1. Awhile ago we gave the Minnesota family a choice between Thanksgiving and Christmas, because we weren't coming back for both anymore. It's usually Xmas unless we're traveling. In that case we'll come up and do Xmas at Thanksgiving.
