December 16, 2024: Clinched

The Vikes are in the playoffs. This season has been playing with house money, but ignoring that, I'll always view this team as getting ready to let you down. Therefore, let's have some fun while it lasts!

    1. This mornings 2mi rucking (pack loaded with firewood) in fresh inch of snow, followed up by Red River, wheat/flax cereal from Canadia + dried cherries avec scoche of maple syrup. They discontinued it a couple years back, but back and celebrating 100yrs!

  1. Little bit of a brag here:

Lego league went pretty well. Teams are judged on 4 areas - robot game (Lego robot completes challenges on a course), programming/robot design, innovation project (creative research project), and core values (essentially, good teamwork, gracious engagement with others, fun-having). One of our teams overall did well enough to move on to the next level. The other team had some fluky rough robot runs, otherwise they might have too. But ultimately, the team not moving on is the one I'm most proud of - because they won the Core Values award.

Being at a Catholic school we work pretty hard to coach those values. I would much rather a non-competitive team where everyone works together and is genuinely nice to others. So we definitely stress this. Winning this award now marks 4 out of 5 competitions where we have one the Core Values, and the other team moving on likely means they were ranked high in that category too. Given that track record, I'm feeling like this is not a fluke. And it feels pretty good to see that work pay off in the students.

  2. Today is the day I get to explain to my kid that school shootings happen and our country will make no attempt to definitively prevent them and protect children. In fact, we are about to inaugurate a Vice President who says school shootings are “a fact of life.”

    1. Can’t leave this without a response, but I can’t think of anything to say except, I’m sure your explanation was as honest and heartfelt as it could be. Poissonnière is lucky to have you.

  3. So this weekend I saw this band called Wilco play three straight nights at St. Paul's Palace Theater. Have you ever heard of them? Apparently they have lots of songs because they played 95 different songs over 8.5 hours in those three shows with no repeats! It was a mix of rock, jazzy noise jams, and some alt-countryish stuff. The crowd seemed to really like them although the shows were mostly attended by (white) males, most of whom I think have procreated. Anyway a good time, I think these guys are going places.

If you have Apple Music and interested in hearing studio versions of what they played in exact order, here's a link to their setlist.
