  1. Merry Christmas from a hotel outside DFW! American Airlines had a major software glitch yesterday morning that grounded everything, plus storms in Dallas means we missed our connection, and spent the night here.

Definite addition to the nice list for the two people working at the 24-hour Dennys who were clearly slammed by an unusual number of people in the restaurant at midnight on Christmas Eve, plus the constant stream of to-go orders from everyone else stuck in DFW.

    1. Bummer, dude. We’re having the opposite experience, upgraded to first class departing on a flight that may be 1/4 full. Everyone working at the airport has been pleasant and cheerful (with the exception of the TSA).

      1. Nice! Day 2 of our travel adventure has been smooth sailing so far. We have now made it to DC, so once my wife gets back with the rental car to pick us up, we’ll be on the road. Just a few hours left, and we’ll finally be there. Looking forward to some drinks when we arrive.

  2. Merry Christmas, Citizens!

Currently binging Severence season 1 with Runner daughter, with a couple sleeping puppies at my side. Have to say, if you've already seen it, I gotta recommend Counterpart to you. Very much in the same vein, although with more action sequences.

  3. Happy Christmas, everyone. We are spending the day with Mrs. A's family, as what family I have lives some distance away. We will visit, play cards, and eat, not necessarily in that order.

  4. Brunch has been served and eaten, naps have been had (or are being had), games have been played and The Muppets' Christmas Carol is currently playing.

Big hits so far this year include the games Play Nine and A Gentle Rain. And an herbs de Provence cheddar I found at the grocer.

  5. No college hockey this past week, it's the holiday break and most games through the end of the year are non-conference or exhibition. But the US National Junior Team has been selected and Minnesota schools are pretty well represented. Two of the three assistant coaches are Steve Miller (UofM) and Brett Larson (SCSU). UMD and SCSU have defensemen on the team. The U of M, UMD, and SCSU have forwards on the roster. That makes six of 22 college players and half the coaches from MN colleges; three players were drawn from Canadian junior league teams. Team USA starts tournament play against Germany tomorrow at 2:30 Eastern (NHL Network).

  6. Christmas went well, and I capped it off by collapsing into bed at 9pm!

Our household's contributions to the holiday meal took some work, but all turned out well. Featuring many things from Smitten Kitchen.
Gingered Cranberry Sauce (Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone by Deborah Madison)
    Mashed Potatoes and Root Vegetables
    Twisty Cinnamon Buns
Old-School Dinner Rolls (substituted 1/3 whole wheat flour for white flour, which resulted in really nice flavor)
Brussels Sprouts, Apple, and Pomegranate salad (first time making this recipe--it was a hit with the adults)
Dark Chocolate Tart with Gingersnap Crust (I've been making this for at least 6 years and am now obligated, though fortunately it's quite straightforward and less work than a regular pie crust)
