January 31, 2025: LTL

Speaking of dishwashers, I forget which detergent company it is, but I love the new ad campaign that's like, "It's okay, you don't have to fill up that whole dishwasher. You're totally fine to go ahead and run it anyway (and use twice as much of our product). It's allllll good."

  1. The proliferation of plastics, and thus top-rack only dishes, means the top half fills up most days while the bottom rack has plenty of space. Plus it's all items of awkward sizes that don't mesh well.

  2. Our dishwasher does a good job and is water-saving, but like all newer utilities it wasnt made to last and it's developing problems. Pretty minor, but I think the door sensor is flaky, so every so often during the day it beeps like the door has been closed, and I've noticed the display isn't lit when I come downstairs in the morning after it's run overnight.

  3. 21 years in my home and soon I will be investing in dishwasher #4. #3 has a mind of it's own. It stops before, or during, the rinse cycle and often I have to re-run a load. The control touch pad is often unresponsive. To be honest, I tend to hand wash dishes in the sink whenever I do the cooking just because I detest every dishwasher we have ever owned.

    1. I’ve owned a couple Bosch dishwashers with no complaints whatsoever. The base model Bosch we put in after our “premium” GE died works noticeably better.

      1. That's what we've had for a few years and no complaints so far either. We replaced a pretty old one before that and the Bosch was about ten times quieter. I appreciate that it shines a little light on the floor so you know it's actually running.

      2. We've owned two Bosch dishwashers across the two homes and they've been great. The only problem we ever had was rodent induced. I think the first model didn't have a utensil tray at the top and I've come to appreciate how useful it is with the second model. It fits perfectly with my desire for everything to have A Spot and Organized.

          1. I absolutely hate my Samsung dishwasher (can't afford something as fancy as a Bosch), but the top utensil tray does, in fact, rule. I already had to tear the whole frickin door apart on the thing to fix a leak that was tripping the moisture sensor on the bottom and we've only had it for like two years, and now it will occasionally not power on at all unless I reset the circuit breaker. Piece of crap.
