Rock Cats Recap

Where they stand:  New Britain is 9-6, tied for second in the EL East, 1.5 games behind Reading.

Who’s hot:  Joe Benson is 6-15 with three doubles and a home run.  For the season, he is .379/.446/.638 in 58 at-bats.  Yangervis Solarte is 7-18 with a double and a home run.  For the season, he is .341/.357/.512 in 59 at-bats.  Cole DeVries is 0-0, 0.00, 0.24 WHIP in 12.1 innings with 18 strikeouts in five appearances.  Steve Hirschfeld is 1-0, 2.40, 1.00 WHIP in 15 innings with 11 strikeouts in three starts.

Who’s cold:  Mike Hollimon is 2-16.  For the season, he is .071/.170/.043 in 42 at-bats.  Chris Parmelee is 3-17.  For the season, he is .290/.323/.500 in 62 at-bats.  Spencer Steedley is 0-1, 8.53, 2.37 WHIP in 6.1 innings (five appearances).  He has struck out eight.  Deolis Guerra is 2-1, 5.54, 1.46 WHIP in 13 innings (three starts).  He has struck out eight.

Transactions:  None.

What’s next:  The Rock Cats have three more games in New Hampshire.  They then come home for three against Harrisburg and four against Richmond.

Minor Details: Games of 4/25

Pawtucket at Rochester—Postponed.  Will be made up as part of a doubleheader July 4.

New Britain 9, New Hampshire 2 at New Hampshire.  The Rock Cats scored four in the sixth and three in the seventh.  Steve Singleton hit three doubles.  Yangervis Solarte had two singles and a homer and scored three times.  Joe Benson homered.  Liam Hendriks got the win, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk in six innings.  Cole DeVries threw three perfect innings, striking out six.

Charlotte 11, Ft. Myers 5 in Ft. Myers.  The Stone Crabs scored four runs in each of the first two innings.  Greg Sexton drove in six runs with two doubles.  Danny Rams had two hits.  Ryan Mullins allowed four runs on three hits and a walk in one inning.  Matt Tone surrendered four runs on four hits and two walks in two innings.  Shooter Hunt pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, walking two.

Burlington 7, Beloit 3 in Beloit.  The Bees scored four runs in the fifth.  Tony Thompson drove in four runs.  Daniel Ortiz had two doubles, Wang-Wei Lin doubled and singled, and Oswaldo Arcia had two singles.  Andrei Lobanov allowed six runs (five earned) on three hits and three walks in 4.2 innings.  Clinton Dempster retired all four batters he faced.

Where they stand:  Rochester is 7-10, tied for fourth in the IL North, four games behind Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Who’s hot:  Chase Lambin is 6-19 with a home run.  For the season, he is .275/.327/.412 in 51 at-bats.  Brandon Roberts is 5-16 after an awful start.  For the season, he is .159/.196/.159 in 44 at-bats.  Prior to his call-up, Eric Hacker had gone 1-0, 0.00, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out ten in eleven innings (two starts).  Kyle Gibson threw six no-hit innings last week.  For the season, he is 0-0, 3.86, 1.07 WHIP with 13 strikeouts in 14 innings.

Who’s cold:  Jeff Bailey is 0-19.  For the season, he is .179/.343/.232 in 56 at-bats.  Ben Revere is 3-26.  For the season, he is .203/.239/.234 in 64 at-bats.  Andrew Baldwin is 1-2, 8.27 in 16.1 innings (three starts).  Kyle Waldrop is 1-3, 7.04 in 7.2 innings (six appearances).

Transactions:  Eric Hacker was promoted from Rochester to Minnesota.  Alex Burnett was optioned from Minnesota to Rochester.

What’s next:  The Red Wings conclude their series against Pawtucket tonight, then host Buffalo for four before hitting the road for four in Syracuse.

Saturday—Rochester 9, Pawtucket 7 in Rochester.  Danny Lehmann and Toby Gardenhire each singled and homered.

Sunday—Pawtucket 9, Rochester 3 in Rochester.  Rene Rivera singled and homered.  Anthony Swarzak surrendered seven runs in 4.2 innings.

NEW BRITAIN

Friday—New Britain 9, Portland 7 in Portland.  Yangervis Solarte had two singles and a double.  Santos Arias threw 2.1 scoreless innings.

Saturday—New Britain at Portland.  Postponed.  No makeup date has been announced.

Sunday—No game scheduled.

FT. MYERS

Friday—Bradenton 4, Ft. Myers 0 in Ft. Myers.  Chris Herrmann had two hits.  Kane Holbrooks gave up two runs on five hits and a walk in six innings.

Saturday—Ft. Myers 4, Charlotte 2 in Ft. Myers.  Danny Rams had a double and two singles.  Kevin Slowey pitched an inning, allowing a run on a hit and a walk.  Daniel Osterbrock gave up one run on five hits in six innings.

Sunday—No game scheduled.

BELOIT

Friday—Beloit at Peoria.  Postponed.  Made up as part of a doubleheader Saturday.

Saturday—Beloit 5, Peoria 2 in Peoria (Game 1—scheduled seven innings).  Daniel Ortiz singled and homered.  Andy Leer had two hits.

Saturday—Peoria 3, Beloit 2 in Peoria (Game 2—scheduled seven innings).  Lance Ray hit a home run.  Adrian Salcedo gave up one run on six hits in 5.1 innings.

Sunday—No game scheduled.

Atlanta organization (AAA Gwinnett) activates Jose Lugo from the disabled list.
White Sox organization (AAA Charlotte) places Michael Restovich on the seven day disabled list., then activates him again.
Milwaukee reinstates LaTroy Hawkins from the disabled list.
Milwaukee assigns LaTroy Hawkins to Nashville (AAA).
Philadelphia organization promotes Jeff Lanning from Williamsport (short-season) to Lakewood (A).
Pittsburgh selects the contract of Joe Beimel from Indianapolis (AAA).
St. Louis activates Nick Punto from the disabled list.
Toronto organization acquires Yohan Pino for cash considerations, promotes him from New Hampshire (AA) to Las Vegas (AAA) for two days, then sends him back to New Hampshire (AA).

Also, Seth Greisinger has been demoted from the Yomiuri Giants to the Kawasaki Giants (a demotion to the Japanese minor league).  H/t AMR.

Buffalo 4, Rochester 2 in Buffalo (Game 1—10 innings—scheduled 7 innings).  Kirk Nieuwenhuis homered to tie the score in the seventh, Nick Evans homered to tie it again in the eighth, and then Evans hit a two-run walkoff to win the game for Buffalo.  Kyle Gibson pitched six no-hit innings and was removed after allowing the home run to start the seventh.  He walked none and struck out six.  Kyle Waldrop faced two batters in the tenth, walking the first and then allowing the game-ending homer.  Chase Lambin had three hits.

Buffalo 4, Rochester 1 in Buffalo (Game 2—scheduled 7 innings).  Ruben Tejada doubled with the bases loaded as the Bisons scored three in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie.  Trevor Plouffe singled, doubled, and tripled.  Scott Diamond allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in six innings.  He struck out eight.

Portland 5, New Britain 1 in Portland.  The Sea Dogs scored two in the first and three in the fourth.  Steve Singleton singled and doubled.  Chris Parmelee homered.  Bobby Lanigan lasted only four innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and three walks.  Brett Jacobson and Michael Tarsi each threw two scoreless innings.

Ft. Myers 5, Bradenton 4 in Ft. Myers.  Nick Romero’s RBI single drove in Anderson Hidalgo to break a 4-4 tie in the seventh.  Hidalgo had three hits and scored three times.  Romero had two hits.  Starter Matt Schuld pitched five innings, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk.  Shooter Hunt got the win, throwing three scoreless innings and giving up just one hit and one walk.  Dakota Watts worked a scoreless ninth for the save.

Peoria 5, Beloit 4 in Peoria (7 innings—scheduled for 9).  The Snappers scored four in the fifth to overcome a 4-0 deficit, but the Chiefs scored one in the bottom of the fifth and it was all they needed.  Beloit had only five hits and made three errors.  B. J. Hermsen took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks in 4.2 innings.  Michael Tonkin threw two shutout innings.
