For some reason it still strikes me as odd that there's professional baseball in Arizona. I mean, there's all the spring training, and the Diamondback have been around for more than 20 years. But the Twins have only ever played 21 games against Arizona in their history. And only 9 of those have been in Arizona. At least, according to the very brief research I was willing to do.
I wonder if that's the fewest games against the Twins have ever played against a team? Nope, not willing to look that one up right now. We don't even have an Arizona Diamondbacks option for our game log image... so yeah. Not a real team. Or at least only marginally a real team.
Anyway, tonight Smeltzer goes against Bumgarner, and the Twins are gonna win in the desert.
Hey, look at me remembering to make a post. It's because I'm feeling very pessimistic. Losing in Detroit will do that, I suppose. Some person no one knew was on the team is pitching and some other people will be filling spots in the field and/or batting order. But it's baseball, so it's still better than just about anything else. Go Twins!
Oh hey. It's Friday. That means I need to put up a gamelog. I almost forgot.
Twins are starting a good stretch for getting ahead in the division. Or behind, depending on how they play. Hopefully they turn it around and start taking a few games again. That's more fun.
Growing up, I saw this album at my Uncle Rock's house. Having no idea what it was actually about, or who Meat Loaf was, I was fairly scandalized by what seemed an edgy title and cover art. What a child I was.
Anyway, this definitely reminds me of Uncle Rock.

My godson, Emerson, wasn't ever really verbal before he passed, but he definitely communicated through music. That was a key thing for him, and he seemed to really dig Billy Joel. Obviously this song isn't really about the good dying young, but that doesn't stop me from thinking about him when it is played.

Personally, I'd love a big brassy New Orleans jazz funeral.
My friend Radhika died pretty tragically last year, and this song tracks back to our time in college together. One of the first books we read in our class was The Collector by John Fowles, which is a perfectly creepy book about a kidnapping. And somehow or other Radhika and I ended up discussing this song as being creepy and kidnappy right alongside our book.
Also, yes, this has been played on the site before, but it's a different, just-Sting, performance at least?

This song reminds me of my sister, Anna. As many of you might recall, she had cystic fibrosis, and passed at the age of 23. This song was released right around the time she passed, and one of the constant tributes was how fully she lived each moment of her life, full of swagger and verve. So this song was already appropriate.
Then the band went and released their official music video version and, well, just watch the first minute and tell me it wasn't perfect:
