Winter Wonderland: Games of December 14

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

MARGARITA 7, ANZOATEGUI 6 IN MARGARITA

Anzoategui led 6-0 half-way through, but Margarita competed the comeback with a two-run eighth.  Willie Argo was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and a double for Margarita, driving in two.  Sean Halton hit a two-run homer, his third, for Margarita.

MAGALLANES 4, LA GUAIRA 1 IN LA GUAIRA

Mario Lisson hit a two-run homer (his seventh) to give Magallanes a 3-0 lead and put them in control of the game.  Stolmy Pimentel pitched six innings for Magallanes, giving up one run on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

ZULIA 3, ARAGUA 2 IN ZULIA

It was 2-0 going to the bottom of the ninth, but Trayvon Robinson's two-run single capped a three-run comeback victory for Zulia.  Logan Duran pitched seven innings for Zulia, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

AGUILAS 3 ESCOGIDO 2 AT AGUILAS

Jonathan Villar's sacrifice fly in the ninth scored Rafael Ynoa with the winning run.  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for Escogido.

LICEY 1, ORIENTE 0 IN LICEY

Mel Rojas, Jr. homered (his second) leading off the fourth for the game's only run.  Yohan Flande pitched four shutout innings for Licey, giving up three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

ESTE 7, GIGANTES 4 IN ESTE

Este led 6-0 after three and held on to win.  Raul Valdes pitched six shutout innings for Este, giving up four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE

SANTURCE 3, CAGUAS 2 IN SANTURCE

Hector Olivera's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth led Santurce to victory.  Adalberto Flores struck out eight in six innings for Santruce, giving up one run on one hit and no walks.

MAYAGUEZ 8, AGUADILLA 3 IN AGUADILLA

Already leading 3-2, Mayaguez scored five in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-3 with a walk and two runs for Mayaguez.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

JALISCO 10, OBREGON 2 IN JALISCO

Jesus Valdez hit a three-run homer (his fifth) in a six-run first that put Jalisco in control early.  Octavio Acosta struck out five in five shutout innings for Jalisco, giving up two hits and no walks.  Amadeo Zazueta was 4-for-5 with a home run (his second) and a triple, scoring twice and driving four.  Japhet Amador was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs for Jalisco.  Eduardo Arredondo was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Jalisco.

MEXICALI 4, NAVOJOA 1 IN NAVOJOA

With Mexicali leading 2-1, C. J. Retherford hit a two-run homer (his ninth) in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  Kameron Loe struck out six in 5.2 innings for Mexicali, giving up one run on eight hits and a walk.

LOS MOCHIS 3, CULIACAN 0 IN CULIACAN

Los Mochis scored two in the first and led all the way.  Yudai Mori pitched six shutout innings for Los Mochis, giving up three hits and no walks while striking out four.

MAZATLAN 4, HERMOSILLO 3 IN HERMOSILLO

Heber Gomez' RBI single in the ninth brought home the go-ahead run for Mazatlan.  Jesus Sanchez pitched 5.2 innings for Mazatlan, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk.  Brian Hernandez was 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI for Mazatlan.  Jose Aguilar was 3-for-4 with a walk for Mazatlan, scoring three times and driving in one.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE*

CANBERRA 5, PERTH 2 IN CANBERRA

D. J. Davis hit a three-run homer in the seventh, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead.  Louis Cohen struck out five in 5.1 innings for Canberra, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

ANZOATEGUI 8, MARGARITA 5 IN MARGARITA

Luis Jimenez hit a two-run homer in a four-run sixth that gave Anzoategui a 5-3 lead.  They scored three more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  The teams combined to use eighteen pitchers (eleven by Anzoategui) with eleven of them (eight by Anzoategui) going less than an inning and six (five by Anzoategui) facing only one batter.  Jimenez was 2-for-4 with two home runs (his seventh and eighth) and three RBIs.

LA GUAIRA 6, CARACAS 0 IN CARACAS

Hector Sanchez hit a two-run homer in the fourth to open the scoring and the La Guaira pitchers took it from there.  Kelvin De La Cruz struck out seven in 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up six hits and no walks for La Guaira.  Yonathan Diaz was 3-for-3 with a two-run homer (his second) and a walk for La Guaira.

ZULIA 5, ARAGUA 1 IN ZULIA

Reynaldo Rodriguez hit a two-run double in a three-run first that gave Zulia all the runs they needed.  Carlos Hernandez struck out eight in six innings for Zulia, giving up one run on four hits and no walks.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

AGUILAS 6, ESCOGIDO 3 IN ESCOGIDO

Hector Luna hit a two-run single in the third to open the scoring and the Aguilas led the rest of the way.  Danny Santana was 0-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Aguilas.  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-4 with a run for Escogido.

LICEY 6, ORIENTE 2 IN ORIENTE

With Licey leading 3-2, Jorge Bonafacio hit a three-run homer in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  Confesor Lara pitched two-thirds of an inning for Oriente, giving up a run on a hit and a walk.

GIGANTES 5, ESTE 3 AT GIGANTES

In a scoreless tie, the first two Gigantes went out in the fifth inning.  Then came two walks, two singles, and two doubles (in that order), producing all five of the Gigantes runs, which was all they needed.  Sam Gaviglio pitched four shutout innings for the Gigantes, giving up a hit and three walks with one strikeout.  Leury Garcia was 3-for-4 with two triples for the Gigantes, scoring once and driving in one.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE

CAGUAS 1, CAROLINA 0 IN CAROLINA

The game's lone run came in the fourth on a single, a walk, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly.  J. J. Fernandez was 0-for-2 for Carolina.

MAYAGUEZ 8, AGUADILLA 6 IN MAYAGUEZ

Mayaguez led 4-0, fell behind  6-4, and scored four in the bottom of the sixth to go in the lead to stay.  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Mayaguez.  Dereck Rodriguez struck out two in a scoreless inning for Mayaguez, giving up one hit while lowering his ERA to 0.69.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

OBREGON 9, JALISCO 4 IN JALISCO (12 INNINGS)

It was 4-4 through seven and stayed that way until the twelfth, when a two-run homer by Max Ramirez and a three-run shot by Jose Heberto Felix brought victory to Obregon.  Arturo Lopez pitched six innings for Obregon, giving up two runs on nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Ramirez was 4-for-6 with two doubles in addition to the home run, scoring twice and driving in three.

MEXICALI 6, NAVOJOA 5 IN NAVOJOA

Yuniesky Betancourt hit a grand slam in a five-run third that put Mexicali ahead, but they also needed C. J. Retherford's homer in the sixth inning to put the game away.  It was Betancourt's third home run and Retherford's eighth.

LOS MOCHIS 5, CULIACAN 0 IN CULIACAN

Los Mochis scored two in the third and Rodolfo Amador added a three-run double in the sixth.  Roy Merritt pitched eight shutout innings for Los Mochis, giving up three hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

MAZATLAN 4, HERMOSILLO 3 IN HERMOSILLO

Cyle Hankerd's two-run homer in the fifth broke a 2-2 tie.  Hermosillo scored once in the ninth and had men on first and second when the game ended.  Jeremy Kehrt pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and four walks with one strikeout for Mazatlan.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

LARA 6, CARACAS 2 IN CARACAS

Lara scored four in the fourth to go ahead 4-1 and they were never threatened after that.  Jairo Perez was 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI for Lara.  Jesus Montero was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run for Lara.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

ESCOGIDO 4, ESTE 0 IN ESTE

Three walks and two singles produced three runs for Escogido in the sixth, and that was all they would need.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run for Escogido.

ORIENTE 3, GIGANTES 2 AT GIGANTES

Junior Lake's RBI double tied it 2-2 in the eighth and a wild pitch scored the go-ahead run in the ninth.  Chris O'Grady pitched 5.2 innings for Oriente, giving up one run on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Orlando Calixte was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Aneury Tavarez was 3-for-5 with a run, both for Oriente.

Winter Wonderland: Games of December 11

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

MAGALLANES 12, LA GUAIRA 6 IN LA GUAIRA

Magallanes scored three in the second to take a 5-1 lead and was in control the rest of the way.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-5 with a walk and two runs for Magallanes and is batting .335.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

AGUILAS 3, LICEY 2 IN LICEY

Two errors resulted in an Aguilas run in the fourth that broke a 2-2 tie.  Licey had only one hit after the second inning.  Danny Santana was 0-for-5 for the Aguilas.

ESCOGIDO 4, ESTE 1 IN ESTE

Wilkin Castillo singled in a run in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie and Escogido added two insurance runs in the eighth.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run for Escogido.

ORIENTE AT GIGANTES

Rained out.

LOS MOCHIS 5, JALISCO 2 IN LOS MOCHIS

Jake Fox' three-run double with two out in the eighth broke a 2-2 tie.  Jon Sintos pitched six innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts for Los Mochis.  Rodolfo Amador was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Los Mochis.  Fox was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) in addition to the double.

MEXICALI 5, CULIACAN 3 IN MEXICALI

Five first-inning singles produced three runs for Mexicali and they never trailed.  Xorge Carrillo was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third) for Mexicali, scoring twice and driving in two.  Yuniesky Betancourt was 3-for-4 with a double and a run for Mexicali.

MAZATLAN 2, NAVOJOA 0 IN MAZATLAN

Brian Hernandez drove in two runs with a fifth-inning double for the only runs of the game.  Walter Silva struck out seven in seven shutout innings for Mazatlan, giving up two hits and no walks.  Jeremias Pineda was 3-for-4 with a triple and a run for Mazatlan.

OBREGON 4, HERMOSILLO 3 IN OBREGON

The scoring was efficient, with Obregon getting all four in the fourth and Hermosillo all three in the sixth.  Rolando Valdez pitched 5.1 innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

BRISBANE 5, SYDNEY 1 IN SYDNEY

Kevin Padlo hit a three-run triple in the first inning and that was all Brisbane needed.  Aaron Whitefield was 1-for-4 for Brisbane and is batting .317.  Logan Wade was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and is batting .339 for Brisbane.

CANBERRA 2, MELBOURNE 1 IN MELBOURNE

Kyle Perkins singled in a run in the ninth to break a 1-1 tie.  Sean Guinard pitched four innings for Canberra, giving up an unearned run on one hit and three walks while striking out one.  Boss Moanaroa was 3-for-4 for Canberra.  By the way, Boss Moanaroa's given name is Crew Tipene Moanaroa.

 

Winter Wonderland: Games of December 7

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

MAGALLANES 9, ANZOATEGUI 8 IN MAGALLANES

Magallanes got all of their runs in the first two innings, scoring three in the first and six in the second to take a 9-0 lead.  Anzoategui cut the margin to 9-8 in the eighth but did not get the tying run on base.  Luis Arraez was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI and is batting .348 for Magallanes.

LA GUAIRA 2, MARGARITA 1 IN MARGARITA

Brian Burgamy's two-run single in the third gave La Guaira all the runs they would need.  Both teams made it a bullpen game, with no pitcher going more than 2.1 innings.

ZULIA 8, CARACAS 3 IN CARACAS

Caracas led 3-2 after six, but a four-run seventh, aided by three walks, an error, a wild pitch, and a passed ball, put Zulia ahead to stay.  Jose Pirela was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk for Zulia, scoring once and driving in two.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his twelfth) and a walk for Zulia, scoring three times.

LARA 5, ARAGUA 4 IN ARAGUA

Lara led 5-0 after seven, then held on as Aragua scored two in the eighth and two in the ninth and had men on first and second before the final out was recorded.  Raul Rivero pitched seven shutout innings for Aragua, giving up three hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

AGUILAS 8, ESCOGIDO 1 AT AGUILAS

Already leading 3-1, the Aguilas scored five in the eighth, getting a single, two doubles, a triple, and a home run in the inning, to put the game out of reach.  Jorge Polanco was 0-for-4 for Escogido.

ORIENTE 4, LICEY 3 IN LICEY

Abiatal Avelino's two-run single in the eighth broke a 2-2 tie.  Licey scored once in the bottom of the eighth and got the tying run to third, but that was it.  Alexis Candelario pitched six innings for Oriente, giving up one run on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts.  Gabriel Guerrero was 3-for-4 with a double.

ESTE 5, GIGANTES 1 IN ESTE

Abraham Almonte had a three-run double in a four-run second that carried Este to a win.  Bryan Evans pitched six innings for Este, giving up one run on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE

CAGUAS 5, MAYAGUEZ 3 IN CAGUAS

Jorge Padilla homered with one out in the eighth to break a 3-3 tie and Caguas got an insurance run later in the inning.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-2 with two walks for Mayaguez.

SANTURCE 3, CAROLINA 2 IN SANTURCE (10 INNINGS)

Jacob Hannemann hit a walkoff homer with two out in the bottom of the tenth.  J. J. Fernandez was 1-for-4 for Carolina.

NAVOJOA 5, LOS MOCHIS 1 IN NAVOJOA

Leading 2-1, Navojoa scored three in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  Salvador Robles pitched five innings for Navojoa, giving up one run on four hits and a walk with no strikeouts.

CULIACAN 2, HERMOSILLO 1 IN CULIACAN (11 INNINGS)

Rico Noel led off the eleventh with a walk, was bunted to second, and scored on a single by Ronnier Mustelier to win the game for Culiacan.  Edgar Gonzalez pitched six innings, giving up one run on two hits and four strikeouts for Culiacan.

MAZATLAN 5, OBREGON 4 IN MAZATLAN (14 INNINGS)

It was 2-2 after nine.  Each team scored once in the twelfth.  Obregon scored once in the top of the fourteenth, but Jesus Fabela delivered a two-out bases loaded single that scored the tying and winning runs.  Nick Struck pitched 5.1 innings for Mazatlan, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Fabela was 3-for-7 with a triple, scoring once and driving in three.  Jose Aguilar was 3-for-6 with two runs for Mazatlan.

JALISCO 3, MEXICALI 0 IN MEXICALI

Jalisco scored single runs in the third, fifth, and seventh.  Daniel Guerrero pitched five shutout innings for Jalisco, giving up three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE*

ADELAIDE 5, PERTH 4 IN PERTH

Adelaide had a 5-0 lead and held on as Perth scored four in the seventh.  Perth had men on first and second with two out in the ninth but could not tie the score.  Steven Chambers pitched 5.2 scoreless innings for Adelaide, giving up seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Josh Altmann was 3-for-5 with a triple and a double, driving in three.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

MAGALLANES 4, ZULIA 3 IN MAGALLANES

Magallanes scored two in the fifth to break a 2-2 tie.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-3 for Magallanes and is batting .348.

MARGARITA 1, LA GUAIRA 0 IN MARGARITA

A single, an error, and two more singles produced the game's lone run in the first inning, with Jose Osuna delivering the RBI hit.  Omar Bencomo pitched six shutout innings for Margarita, giving up two hits and one walk with one strikeout.

CARACAS 7, ARAGUA 3 IN CARACAS

Henry Alejandro Rodriguez hit a three-run homer in the seventh and Jesus Aguilar followed with a solo homer to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 6-3 lead.  Luis Diaz struck out six in 5.2 innings for Caracas, giving up one run on four hits and two walks.  Anderson De La Rosa was 2-for-4 with two home runs (his second and third) for Caracas.  Rodriguez was 2-for-4 and the homer was his seventh.  Aguilar's homer was his fifth.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

ESCOGIDO 5, AGUILAS 3 IN ESCOGIDO

A sacrifice fly in the sixth put Escogido up 3-2 and they added two insurance runs in the seventh.  Jorge Polanco was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run for Escogido.

ORIENTE 3, LICEY 0 IN ORIENTE

Oriente scored single runs in each of innings five through seven.  Evan MacLane pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks with two strikeouts for Oriente.

ESTE 4, GIGANTES 1 AT GIGANTES

Este scored once in each of the first three innings and added one more in the fifth.  Frank Garces pitched 4.1 innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts for Este.  Austin Wynns was 3-for-4 with a home run for Este.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE

SANTURCE 3, MAYAGUEZ 2 IN MAYAGUEZ

Mayaguez got two in the first but no more, and an RBI single in the eighth by Christian Vazquez capped the Santurce comeback.  Adalberto Flores pitched five innings for Santurce, giving up two runs on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.  Neftali Soto was 2-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk, scoring twice for Santurce.

AGUADILLA 5, CAGUAS 4 IN CAGUAS (10 INNINGS)

Jorge Jimenez delivered an RBI single in the tenth to give Aguadilla a lead they would not give up.  Ruben Gotay was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a walk, scoring once and driving in three for Aguadilla.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

NAVOJOA 10, LOS MOCHIS 0 IN NAVOJOA

An eight-run sixth, aided by three walks, a hit batsman, and an error, put the game away for Navojoa.  Zack Dodson struck out seven in six innings for Navojoa, giving up two hits and a walk.  Niko Vasquez was 4-for-4 with a home run (his fifth) and a double for Navojoa, scoring twice and driving in four.

CULIACAN 6, HERMOSILLO 5 IN CULIACAN

Hermosillo led 5-2 going to the bottom of the ninth.  Culiacan scored two and loaded the bases with two out.  Oscar Robles then delivered a two-run single to win the game for Culiacan.  Daniel Rodriguez struck out six in six innings for Culiacan, giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk.  Joey Meneses was 3-for-4 with a double for Culiacan, scoring twice and driving in one.

MAZATLAN 8, OBREGON 7 IN MAZATLAN

Mazatlan led 8-3 after six.  A home run in the ninth made it 8-7 but the tying run did not get on base.  Brian Hernandez was 3-for-5 with a run and three RBIs for Mazatlan.  Carlos Munoz was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for Mazatlan.

MEXICALI 6, JALISCO 0 IN MEXICALI

Chris Roberson's two-run double in a three-run fourth gave Mexicali a 3-0 lead.  Miguel Pena pitched six shutout innings for Mexicali, giving up two hits and three walks with two strikeouts.  Roberson was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

ANZOATEGUI 8, LARA 7 IN ANZOATEGUI

Lara scored four in the seventh to go ahead 7-6, but in the bottom of the ninth Rene Reyes hit a two-run homer to give Anzoategui the win.  Reyes was 3-for-5 with two home runs, scoring three times and driving in four.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

GIGANTES 4, ESCOGIDO 2 IN ESCOGIDO

Trailing 4-0, Escogido scored twice in the sixth.  They loaded the bases with two out in both the sixth and the seventh, but were thwarted each time.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-5 for Escogido.

AGUILAS 5, ORIENTE 2 AT AGUILAS

Joey Terdoslavich hit a two-run double in the fourth to break a scoreless tie and the Aguilas led the rest of the way.

AGUADILLA 5, CAGUAS 4 IN CAGUAS

Caguas led 4-2 going to the ninth, but a two-run single by Ruben Gotay tied it up and a fielder's choice brought home the go-ahead run.  Jarret Leverett struck out five in 5.2 innings for Aguadilla, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks.  Yariel Gonzalez was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two walks for Aguadilla.

GAMES OF DECEMBER 3

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

ANZOATEGUI 10, MAGALLANES 8 IN ANZOATEGUI

Trailing 5-0, Anzoategui scored six time in the bottom of the third, aided by three errors.  They built a 10-5 lead before Magallanes scored some late runs to make the final score look better.  Luis Arraez was 0-for-3 with two walks and an RBI for Magallanes and is batting .348.

LARA 10, LA GUAIRA 2 IN LA GUAIRA

Jesus Montero hit a two-run double in a three-run third that put Lara up 4-0.  La Guaira cut it to 4-2 in the fourth, but a four-run eighth put the game out of reach.  Paulo Orlando was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Lara.

ARAGUA 2, MARGARITA 1 IN ARAGUA (10 INNINGS)

Hernan Perez led off the tenth with a triple and scored on a Carlos Tocci single to win it for Aragua.  Austin Bibens-Dirkx pitched five innings for Aragua, giving up one run on three hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

CARACAS 7, ZULIA 5 IN ZULIA

A six-run third gave Caracas all the runs they needed.  Jesus Galindo was 3-for-4 with a home run (his second) for Caracas, driving in three.  Yandy Diaz was 3-for-5 with a run for Caracas.

Francisco Pena's two-run single in the second put Aguilas up 3-1 and they stayed ahead the rest of the game.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run for Escogido.

LICEY 7, ORIENTE 6 IN LICEY

Licey trailed 6-4 going to the bottom of the ninth, but Juan Francisco tied it with a two-run single and an error allowed the winning run to score.  Marco Hernandez was 3-for-5 with a home run and a double for Licey, scoring three times.

ESTE 14, GIGANTES 6 AT ESTE

A hit batsman, three walks, and two errors contributed to a seven-run third that put Este in the lead to stay.  The two teams made a total of nine errors in the game.  Abraham Almonte was 4-for-6 with a double for Este, scoring three times and driving in one.

SANTURCE 4, AGUADILLA 2 IN AGUADILLA

Robert Andino's RBI double in the ninth broke a 2-2 tie and Santruce added an insurance run later in the inning.  Reiner Roibal pitched five innings for Santurce, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Hector Olivera was 3-for-3 with a walk for Santurce.

CAGUAS 3, CAROLINA 1 IN CAROLINA

Johnny Monell hit a two-run homer in the top of the first and Caguas stayed ahead 2-0 until the ninth, when each team scored once.   J. J. Fernandez was 0-for-3 for Carolina.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

JALISCO 12, NAVOJOA 2 IN JALISCO

Jalisco scored three in the second and four in the fifth to take control of the game.  Jesus Valdez was 3-for-4 with a home run (his second) for Jalisco, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jose Manuel Rodriguez was 3-for-4 for Jalisco.  Agustin Murillo was 2-for-5 with a home run, his fourth, for Jalisco.

MAZATLAN 10, LOS MOCHIS 3 IN LOS MOCHIS (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Mazatlan scored all ten of their runs in the sixth inning, an inning in which they received six walks.  They did not get a hit in any inning other than the sixth, and got only three of them that inning, so for the game they had ten runs on three hits.

MAZATLAN 7, LOS MOCHIS 2 IN LOS MOCHIS (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

A four-run fifth put Mazatlan up 5-0.  They had only one hit in the inning, aided by two walks and three errors.  Felipe Gonzalez pitched five innings for Mazatlan, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

MEXICALI 10, HERMOSILLO 6 IN HERMOSILLO

Once again a big inning made the difference, as Mexicali scored seven runs in the fourth.  Several Mexicali hitters had good days:  Chris Roberson was 4-for-5 with a walk and a run; Xorge Carrillo was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one, and Luis Juarez was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.

CULIACAN 3, OBREGON 1 IN OBREGON

Culiacan scored two in the fourth and Oscar Robles doubled home an insurance run in the seventh.  Savador Valdez pitched six innings for Culiacan, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

CARACAS 2, ZULIA 1 IN ZULIA

RBI doubles by Henry Alejandro Rodriguez and Felix Perez brought home the tying and go-ahead runs in the eighth inning.  Wilmer Font pitched 5.2 innings for Caracas, giving up one run on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

ANZOATEGUI 4, LARA 3 IN ANZOATEGUI

Luis Jimenez hit a two-run homer in the eighth to give Anzoategui a 4-3 lead.  Balbino Fuenmayor was 3-for-4 with a run for Anzoategui.  Jimenez was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

LA GUAIRA 11, MAGALLANES 5 IN LA GUIRA

Back-to-back homers by Heiker Meneses and Hector Sanchez gave La Guaira a 2-1 lead in the third.  They then added four in the fifth and five in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  Emilis Guerrero pitched five innings for La Guaira, giving up one run on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Meneses was 3-for-5 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in two.

Aragua led 6-3 after three, but Margarita got two in the fourth and two in the fifth and never trailed again.  Sean Halton was 3-for-4 with a home run (his second) and four RBIs for Margarita.  Elias Diaz was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk for Margarita, scoring twice.

Jesmuel Valentin homered with two out  in the sixth for the game's only run.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-3 for Mayaguez.  Dereck Rodriguez pitched two-thirds of an inning for Mayaguez, giving up no runs on one hit and lowering his ERA to 1.04.

NAVOJOA 11, JALISCO 10 IN JALISCO

Navojoa led 11-3 going to the bottom of the ninth.  A three-run homer and a pair of two-run homers made it 11-10 before the last out was recorded.  Niko Vasquez was 3-for-5 with two runs for Navojoa.  Quincy Latimore was 1-for-2 with a three-run homer (his ninth) and a walk, scoring twice for Navojoa.

LOS MOCHIS 4, MAZATLAN 2 IN LOS MOCHIS

Ramon Urias hit a three-run triple-plus-error to give Los Mochis a 4-2 lead in the fifth.  Luis Niebla struck out eight in six innings for Los Mochis, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks.

Mexicali scored two in the tenth for the win.  Javier Solano struck out eight in eight innings for Mexicali, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.

Marcus Greene, Jr. hit a three-run homer in a five-run fifth that put Adelaide ahead 7-0.  Jack O'Laughlin pitched five innings for Adelaide, giving up two unearned runs on six hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Greene, Jr. was 2-for-4 and drove in four runs.

ANZOATEGUI 3, MAGALLANES 1 IN ANZOATEGUI

All the runs came in the fourth inning, with Humberto Arteaga singling one home for Magallanes in the top of the inning and Balbino Fuenmayor hitting a three-run homer (his fifth) in the bottom half.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-4 for Magallanes and is batting .355.

ZULIA 5, CARACAS 0 IN ZULIA

Wilson Garcia doubled home the first run of the game in the seventh Zulia put the game away with four in the eighth.  Joan Montero struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings for Zulia, giving up two hits and two walks.

LARA 4, ARAGUA 1 IN ARAGUA

Manny Pina hit a two-run homer in a three-run second that provided Lara with all the runs they would need.  Jorge Martinez pitched six innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts for Lara.  Wellington Dotel was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double for Lara, scoring twice.

LA GUAIRA 3, MARGARITA 2 IN LA GUAIRA

La Guaira scored once in each of the first three innings and it was barely enough.  Margarita got two in the eighth and had men on first and third with one out, but a double play ended the threat.  Jose Gil was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk for La Guaira, scoring once.

LICEY 4, ESCOGIDO 3 IN ESCOGIDO

It was tied at two after two and still tied at two after six, but Licey scored single runs in the seventh and eighth to win.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a run for Escogido.

ORIENTE 3, ESTE 2 IN ORIENTE (10 INNINGS)

Este led 2-1 going to the bottom of the ninth, but Junior Lake led off with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly to tie it 2-2.  In the tenth, an infield single, a bunt single, and two walks produced the winning run for Oriente.  Confesor Lara pitched a scoreless inning for Oriente and now has an ERA of 1.80.

GIGANTES 16, AGUILAS 4 AT GIGANTES

Already leading 3-2, the Gigantes had an eight-run inning in the fifth to put the game out of reach.  The Aguilas made three errors in the inning and six in the game.  Eric Wood hit a three-run homer for the Gigantes.

Zac Shepherd's two-run triple in the sixth gave Sydney a 2-1 lead.  Craig Anderson pitched 6.2 innings, giving up one run on six hits and no walks while striking out one.

Canberra scored seven in the second to take a 7-2 lead and led at least by four the rest of the way.  Canberra had four doubles and a triple in the inning.  Lots of Canberra players had big days:  Jason Sloan was 3-for-5 with three doubles, scoring twice and driving in one; Mike Reeves was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run (his fourth), scoring twice and driving in three; Aaron Sloan was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two; and Kyle Perkins was 3-for-5 with two doubles.

ARAGUA 8, LARA 3 IN LARA (10 INNINGS)

Lara led 3-0 after seven, but Daniel Alvarez hit a two-run homer in the eighth and Hernan Perez doubled and scored in the ninth to tie it 3-3.  Aragua then scored five in the tenth to put the game away, with the big hit coming on a three-run single-plus-error by Perez.  Perez was 3-for-5 with a double for Aragua, scoring twice and driving in two.  Alvarez was 2-for-5 with the two-run homer (his fourth), scoring twice.

LA GUAIRA 4, ANZOATEGUI 1 IN ANZOATEGUI

La Guaira got only one hit in the third inning, but three walks and two errors produced three runs, which was more than enough.  Kelvin De La Cruz pitched five shutout innings for La Guaira, giving up one hit and three walks with four strikeouts.  Christian Herrera was 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs for La Guaira.

ZULIA 7, MARGARITA 4 IN ZULIA (5 INNINGS--RAIN)

Zulia scored two in the second and three in the third to go up 5-0.  Margarita got two in the fourth and fifth to cut the lead to 5-4, but Zulia got two in the bottom of the fifth.  Jose Pirela was 2-for-3 with a home run (his second) and two runs for Zulia.

Cam Perkins hit a three-run homer in the first and the Gigantes added four in the fourth and four in the fifth to build an 11-1 lead before Licey scored some runs late to make the final score look better.  Terry Doyle pitched five innings for the Gigantes, giving up one run on two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  The Gigantes had lots of offense, of course:  Wilmer Difo was 4-for-6 with a double, scoring twice and driving in three; Garabez Rosa was 4-for-6 with a double, scoring once and driving in one; Leury Garcia was 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs; and Ramon Torres was 3-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring twice.

Mayaguez scored three in the third, three in the fourth, five in the sixth, and two in the eighth.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-2 with three walks for Mayaguez, scoring once and driving in one.

HERMOSILLO 5, JALISCO 4 IN HERMOSILLO (13 INNINGS)

Agustin Murillo's three-run homer (his third) in the eighth put Jalisco ahead 4-3, but a single, a bunt, and an error tied it 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth.  In the thirteenth, an error, a bunt, and an intentional walk put men on first and second with one out.  A force out put them on first and third with two out and Efren Navarro singled home the winning run.  Pablo Ortega pitched seven innings for Hermosillo, giving up one run on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

NAVOJOA 8, OBREGON 7 IN NAVOJOA (11 INNINGS)

Obregon led 5-2 in the bottom of the ninth, but Yosmany Guerra delivered a three-run double with two out to tie it 5-5.  Leo Heras singled in two for Obregon in the top of the tenth, but Alan Sanchez hit a two-out two-run homer (his third) in the bottom of the tenth to tie it 7-7.  In the eleventh Alejandro Gonzalez singled, was bunted to second, and scored on a two-out single by Jesus Castillo to win the game.

MAZATLAN 6, CULIACAN 4 IN MAZATLAN

Mazatlan led 3-0 after three, but trailed 4-3 going to the eighth.  Yancarlo Angulo singled in a run to tie it, and Carlos Munoz delivered a two-out two-run single to put Mazatlan up 6-4.  Roberto Valenzuela was 3-for-3 with a triple and a run for Mazatlan.

LOS MOCHIS 10, MEXICALI 5 IN MEXICALI

A five-run seventh broke a 4-4 tie and gave Los Mochis a victory.  Saul Soto hit a two-run homer (his fifth) and Ramon Urias hit a two-run homer for Los Mochis.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE*

MELBOURNE 8, BRISBANE 0 IN BRISBANE

Melbourne scored two in the second and led the rest of the way.  Aaron Whitefield was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .394 for Brisbane.  Logan Wade was 0-for-4 for Brisbane.  Mark Hamburger struck out twelve in a complete game for Melbourne, giving up just two hits and one walk.

CANBERRA 8, ADELAIDE 4 IN CANBERRA

Adelaide led 4-2 after four, but Canberra scored three in the fifth (aided by three walks) to take the lead and added three in the sixth (aided by two walks and a hit batsman) to take control of the game.  Aaron Sloan was 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI for Canberra.

SYDNEY 6, PERTH 4 IN SYDNEY

Sydney led 3-0 after two innings.  Perth cut the lead to 3-2 and 5-4, but could never tie the score.  Tyler Foss struck out eight in 6.2 innings for Sydney, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks.  Malik Collymore was 3-for-5 with a double for Sydney, scoring once.
