Australian League Championship Series: Game Three
Perth 7, Melbourne 6 (13 innings). The teams were tied at three after one inning, Melbourne took a 6-3 lead after three, Perth came back to tie it after five, and there things stood until the thirteenth. Perth won the game on a Twins-like rally: James McOwen was hit by a pitch, went to second on a sacrifice bunt, took third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch.
Mychal Givens led Perth with a 4-for-5 day, getting two doubles and two singles. Ex-Twin Allan de San Miguel hit the game’s only home run, a two run shot for Perth in the first. Perth starter Geoff Brown surrendered five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks in 1.2 innings, but the Heat bullpen bailed them out. Jacob Clem gave up one run on four hits and two walks in 6.1 innings of relief. Brendan Wise pitched a perfect ninth. Jack Frawley then came on for Perth and went the final four innings, giving up just one hit and striking out four to get the win.
For Melbourne, Jack Givens went 4-for-6. Elliot Biddle singled and tripled, driving in three. Melbourne starter Jeff Jamnik yielded five runs on eight hits in four innings. Bubbie Buzachero took a tough loss, giving up just two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven in eight innings of relief. Andrew Russell threw the game-ending wild pitch. Joshua Hendricks went 1-for-6 and scored once for Melbourne.
The win gives Perth the Australian League championship. The Heat won the best-of-three series two games to one.
Australian League Championship Series: Game Two
Melbourne 3, Perth 2 in Perth (13 innings). Brad Harman singled in Josh Davies in the top of the thirteenth. Perth put runners on first and third with one out in the bottom of the inning, but could not tie the score. Davies had two hits and scored twice for Melbourne. Justin Huber drove in two runs. Three Melbourne relievers combined to pitch 8.1 scoreless innings: Bubbie Buzachero went 3.1, Andrew Russell pitched two, and Kevin Reese worked the final three to get the win. Mitchell Graham went 4-for-6 to lead Perth. Benn Grice took the loss, giving up the winning run in his third inning of work. Joshua Hendricks was 1-for-4 for Melbourne. The two teams are tied at one win apiece, with the deciding game of the best-of-three series to be played today.
Australian League Championship Series: Game One
Perth 4, Melbourne 1 in Perth. The Heat scored single runs in the first, fourth, sixth, and seventh. James McOwen led the way for Perth with three hits, including a fourth-inning home run that gave the Heat a lead they never relinquished. Tim Kennelly added two hits. Virgil Vasquez got the complete game victory, striking out eight while giving up five hits and no walks. For Melbourne, Kevin David singled and homered for the lone Aces run. Travis Blackley took the loss, allowing all four runs on nine hits in seven innings. No Twins players appeared in the game. The win gave Perth a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three championship series.
Australian League Playoffs
Melbourne 14, Sydney 4 in Melbourne (Game 1). Sydney led 2-0 after two and a half, but Melbourne scored four in the third and four in the fifth and it was all but over. Paul Weichard had three singles and a double and scored three times for Melbourne. Brad Harman had two homers and a single, scored three times, and drove in six. Kevin David also hit a home run. Travis Blackley got the win, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out eight in five innings. For Syndey, Mitch Dening and Trent D’Antonio each singled and homered. Aidan Francis took the loss, surrendering eight runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out eight in 4.2 innings. Joshua Hendricks was used as a pinch-runner and scored for Melbourne. Sam Gibbons pitched a perfect ninth for Melbourne. Jacob Younis was 0-for-4 for Sydney.
Melbourne 15, Sydney 3 in Melbourne (Game 2). The Aces led 4-1 after one, 5-1 after two, 11-1 after three, and 13-1 after four. Elliot Biddle had two homers and a single for Melbourne, scoring three times and driving in four. John Edwards had three singles and a double. Dominic Ramos and Darryl George each had two doubles and a single, with George driving in three. Brad Harman singled and homered. Jeff Jamnik got the complete game win, giving up seven hits and a walk while striking out seven. For Sydney, David Kandilas singled and homered. Starter Vaughn Harris took the loss, surrendering four runs on five hits and a walk in just one inning. Jacob Younis was 0-for-4 for Sydney. Todd Van Steensel yielded seven runs (six earned) on six hits and a walk in just 1.2 innings.
Melbourne wins the series three games to two. They will now advance to play Perth in the best-of-three championship series beginning February 10.

Sydney 6, Melbourne 2 in Melbourne. Sydney scored three in the seventh to take a 6-0 lead. Mitch Dening hit two home runs, driving in four for the Blue Sox. Tyler Collins also homered for them. Eliot Biddle had two singles and a double to lead Melbourne. Justin Huber hit a home run for the Aces. Brad Thomas worked seven strong innings for Sydney, giving up a run on four hits and a walk while striking out six to get the win. Nic Ungs took the loss for Melbourne. He struck out ten in 6.1 innings, but allowed six runs on eight hits. The only Twins to play were Jacob Younis, who was 1-for-4 and scored once for Sydney, and Joshua Hendricks, who was 0-for-2 for Melbourne. Sydney takes a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. The winner will play Perth for the championship.

Melbourne 7, Sydney 2. The Aces scored three in the second to break a 2-2 tie and added two in the fifth to put away the victory. Kevin David led Melbourne with a pair of doubles. Brad Harman singled and doubled. Ex-Twin Justin Huber hit a two-run homer and drove in three for the game. Kevin Reese relieved to start the third inning and worked five shutout frames, striking out four while giving up six hits to get the win. The Blue Sox were led by Boss Moanaroa, who had two singles and a double. Chris Oxspring took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out six in five innings. Joshua Hendricks was 1-for-4 for Melbourne and scored once. Jacob Younis was 0-for-4 for Sydney. The best-of-five series is tied at one game apiece. The winner will play Perth for the championship.

Action begins this afternoon when Venezuela plays Puerto Rico. Mexico takes on the Dominican Republic this evening. All games will be played in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

CARIBBEAN SERIES
The Caribbean Series begins Thursday afternoon. Venezuela plays Puerto Rico and Mexico plays the Dominican Republic. The series is a six-game round-robin.

Melbourne plays Sydney in a best-of-five series beginning tomorrow. The winner will play a best-of-five series against Perth in the finals.

Francisco Liriano started and allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out four in 3.2 innings. He took the loss for Escogido.

Australian League—Perth defeated Melbourne three games to one in the first round. Sydney defeated Adelaide three games to one in the first round. Sydney now plays Melbourne in the best-of-five semi-finals, which will begin Wednesday.
