Tiffany – I Think We’re Alone Now

Everyone has to start somewhere, right? Since I've never done a Guest DJ week before, I figured I'd share a few highlights chronicling how my taste in music evolved.

 

I started dance classes at a fairly young age, and my dance studio was a major source of exposure to pop music. One of the benefits of dancing was learning how to follow the beat and to hear the musical phrasing and rhythm changes. This unquestionably has influenced how I listen to all sorts of music. As I recall, I did a routine with pom-poms to this song. The costume had a lot of sequins.

It's been a wonderful week digging up memories. Thinking back to all of the blogs and other Internet web sites I tracked 10 years ago – I don't know if I'm still in attendance at any but this one. Thanks for the memories, SBG & WGOM!

I'll end on a contemplative note. I grew up a bando and detested the choir. Vocal musicians just seemed lazy to me at the time. Over the years I've learned that there are some special things only choirs can do. "Sleep" is one of those special things. I've listened to few more beautiful pieces of music.

"Sleep" is here sung by a massive choir in orchestra hall, conducted by Whitacre himself.

How many rules am I breaking here?

Watched this for the first time in years and just had to share it on a Saturday. My friend shared this with me years ago. It brings back memories of all the laughs we've shared; all the humor he has put in front of me over the years. Now he's a pastor – by way of The Brave New Workshop.

Man did I used to be a Letterman fan. My brother first introduced Dave to me when I was really young. I didn't really know why he was so great, but I knew he was. If that makes sense. I really should be watching some of his final episodes.

I think I watched this cover of "Masters of War" as it was originally broadcast. I'm no Pearl Jam fanboy, but remember being greatly affected by this performance in 2004.

In the first half of the 90's I learned I liked music. Like really liked music. So, yeah, I'm a grunge child.

I "discovered" Paw from a Road Rash video game soundtrack of all things. Remember "discovering" bands? I always felt such ownership of the bands I liked back then.

I think "Jessie" was their highest-charting tune, which means it probably didn't chart at all.

Did you know I started dating my wife in 8th grade? And her name is Jesse? She has really never appreciated my love of this song.
