Minor Details: Games of May 25-26

All games were played Sunday except the FCL game, which was played Monday.

NORFOLK TIDES 10, ST. PAUL SAINTS 4 IN ST. PAUL

Coby Mayo homered in the first inning to give Norfolk a 1-0 lead.  The Saints roared back in the second, as a Patrick Winkel grand slam gave them a 4-1 lead.  From there, though, it was all Norfolk.  TT Bowens hit a three-run homer in the third to tie it up.  Vimael Machin hit an RBI double in the fourth to give Norfolk a 5-4 lead.  Homers by Bowens and Livan Soto were part of a four-run fifth that put the game out of reach.  St. Paul did not get a hit after the fourth inning.

Batters:  Patrick Winkel was 2-for-4 with a grand slam, his third homer.

Pitchers:  Starter Darren McCaughan struck out five in 4.1 innings, but allowed nine runs (eight earned) on eleven hits and a walk.  Ryan Jensen struck out five in 2.1 perfect innings.  Anthony Misiewicz struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opponents:  TT Bowens was 2-for-4 with two home runs (his sixth and seventh), a walk, and five RBIs.  Vimael Machin was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs, and an RBI.  Luis Vazquez was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Coby Mayo was 2-for-5 with a home run, his eighth.  Livan Soto was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his second.  Houston Roth pitched 2.2 perfect innings, striking out two.  Kade Strowd struck out two and walked three in two shutout innings.

SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS 3, WICHITA WIND SURGE 2 IN SAN ANTONIO

Cody Roberts singled home a run in the fourth.  Aaron Sabato came back with a two-run homer in the fifth to give Wichita the lead.  It looked like it might hold up, but an error allowed the tying run to score in the seventh and an error allowed the go-ahead run to score in the eighth.  Wichita did not get a hit after the sixth inning.

Batters:  Kyler Fedco was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Aaron Sabato was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and a walk.

Pitchers:  Trent Baker struck out four in four innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks.  Mike Paredes pitched 2.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and no walks and striking out one.

Opponents:  Anthony Villar was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Romeo Sanabria was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Marcos Castanon was 2-for-4 with a double.  Victor Lazarraga pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and three walks and striking out two.

Stats:  Kyler Fedco, .902.  Aaron Sabato, .876.  Mike Paredes, 2.25.  Trent Baker, 2.27.

Record:  23-22, tied for third with Northwest Arkansas, one game behind Arkansas and Springfield.

FORT WAYNE TINCAPS 4, CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS 1 IN FORT WAYNE

A single and three walks plated a run for Fort Wayne in the second and two walks, a hit batsman, and a sacrifice fly brought home one in the third.  Fort Wayne added two in the sixth.  The lone Cedar Rapids run scored in the seventh on a Jaime Ferrer RBI double.  That was the last Kernels hit.

Batters:  None.  Cedar Rapids had two hits.

Pitchers:  Alejandro Hidalgo struck out three in three innings, but gave up two runs on one hit and six walks.  Samuel Perez pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.  Jacob Wosinski pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.  Kade Bragg pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.  Cedar Rapids pitchers walked ten and hit one.

Opponents:  Jose Sanabria was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Jack Costello was 2-for-3 with a run.  Eric Yost struck out eight in 6.1 innings, giving up one run on one hit and two walks.

LAKELAND FLYING TIGERS 15, FORT MYERS MIGHTY MUSSELS 12 IN LAKELAND

Lakeland broke a scoreless tie in a big way, scoring five in the third on a two-run inside-the-park homer by Bryce Rainer and a three-run homer by Stephen Hrustich.  Rayne Doncon homered in the fourth to get Fort Myers on the board and Angel Del Rosario hit a two-run homer in a three-run fifth that cut the lead to 5-4.  Lakeland responded with a six-run bottom of the fifth, with half the runs coming on a three-run homer by Sergio Tapia.  Jefferson Valladares homered in the sixth, but Lakeland once again responded, getting three runs in the bottom of the sixth on four walks, a hit batsman, and a sacrifice fly to go ahead 14-5.  To their credit, the Mussels didn't give up, as Dameury Pena hit a two-run single in a five-run eighth that made the score 14-10.  Rainer hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth that made it 15-10, but Fort Myers once again tried to come back.  Peyton Carr hit a two-run homer in the ninth, but that was as much as they could do, and the comeback fell three runs short.

Batters:  Rayne Doncon was 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk, and two RBIs.  Dameury Pena was 3-for-6 with a run and two RBIs.  Jefferson Valladares was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and three runs.  Peyton Carr was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer (his second) and two runs.  Angel Del Rosario was 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and three RBIs.

Pitchers:  Starter Michael Ross struck out five in four innings but allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hit and a walk.  Brennan Oxford struck out three and walked two in two shutout innings.

Opponents:  Bryce Rainer was 3-for-5 with a home run (his fifth), a double, a walk, two runs, and four RBIs.  Stephen Hrustich was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, a walk, and two runs.  Woody Hadeen was 2-for-5 with a walk, two runs, and two RBIs.  Sergio Tapia was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, two walks, and three runs.

FCL PIRATES 2, FCL TWINS 1 AT TWINS (7 INNINGS)

Kendrick Herrera singled home a run in the third.  Irvin Nunez tied it with an RBI single in the fifth, but Jonathan Rivero tripled leading off the bottom of the fifth and scored on a balk.  And that was it.  The Twins got men to first and second in the sixth, but their last five men were retired.

Batters:  Luis Fragoza was 2-for-3.

Pitchers:  Starter Hendry Chivilli pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits and two walks and striking out one.  Liam Rocha struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opponents:  Richard Ramirez was 2-for-3 with a double.  Carlson Reed pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out one.  Levi Sterling struck out six in three innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks.

Stats:  Irvin Nunez .300/.831.  Bryan Acuna .813.  Liam Rocha 0.00.  Hendry Chivilli 1.42.

Minor Details: Games of May 22

NORFOLK TIDES 8, ST. PAUL SAINTS 3 IN ST. PAUL (GAME 1)

A passed ball scored a run in the first and a four-run inning, including a Jud Fabian two-run homer, gave Norfolk all the runs it would need.  Matt Wallner homered in the third to put St. Paul on the board, but Samuel Basallo hit a two-run homer in the fourth.  Basallo homered again in the seventh.  Wallner homered in the seventh as well, a two-run shot, but it was not nearly enough.

Batters:  Matt Wallner was 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs.

Pitchers:  Starter Cory Lewis pitched 2.2 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks, striking out three.  Randy Dobnak struck out two in two perfect innings.

Opponents:  Samuel Basallo was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his eighth and ninth), a double, a walk, four runs, and three RBIs.  Jud Fabian was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his ninth.  T. T. Bowens was 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run, and an RBI.

ST. PAUL SAINTS 3, NORFOLK TIDES 2 IN ST. PAUL (GAME 2)

Emmanuel Rodriguez homered in the second to give St. Paul a 1-0 lead.  Coby Mayo singled home a run in the third to tie it.  A wild pitch put St. Paul back in front 2-1 in the fifth and a sacrifice fly provided an insurance run.  They needed it, as Chadwick Tromp homered in the seventh to cut the lead to 3-2.  However, Norfolk did not get the tying run on base.

Batters:  Mickey Gasper was 2-for-3.  Emmanuel Rodriguez was 1-for-1 with a home run (his fourth) and two walks.

Pitchers:  Simeon Woods Richardson struck out eight in six innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.

Opponents:  Vimael Machin was 2-for-3.  Chadwick Tromp hit a home run.  Roansy Contreras struck out five in four innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk.

SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS 2, WICHITA WIND SURGE 1 IN SAN ANTONIO

Francisco Acuna homered in the first to give San Antonio the lead.  It stayed 1-0 until the seventh, when Aaron Sabato homered to tie it.  But in the eighth, Newilian Cedeno delivered an RBI single to drive home what would turn out to be the winning run.  Wichita got the tying run to second with one out in the ninth, but could do no more.  Wichita stranded ten runners and went 0-for-10 with men in scoring position.

Batters:  Gabriel Gonzalez was 3-for-4.  Aaron Sabato was 1-for-3 with a home run, his third.

Pitchers:  Ricky Castro pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks and striking out three.  Pierson Ohl struck out three in three innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks.

Opponents:  Francisco Acuna was 2-for-4 with a home run, his sixth.  Henry Baez struck out six in 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk.

Fort Wayne scored in the first on a Rosman Verdugo RBI single.  A Kaelen Culpepper single-plus-error tied it in the third and Cedar Rapids took the lead in the fourth a Caden Kendle RBI single.  Nate Baez doubled home an insurance run in the eighth.  Fort Wayne did not get a hit after the seventh.

Batters:  Khadim Diaw was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitchers:  Jose Olivares struck out six and walked five in 3.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits.  Kade Bragg struck out five in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.  Cole Percival struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Paulshawn Pasqualotto pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opponents:  Kai Roberts was 2-for-3 with two walks and a run.  Brendan Durfee was 2-for-4.  Clark Candiotti struck out nine in 4.2 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk.  Harry Gustin struck out four in three innings, giving up one run on two hits and two walks.

LAKELAND FLYING TIGERS 4, FORT MYERS MIGHTY MUSSELS 1 IN LAKELAND

Wenceel Perez hit a two-run homer to put Lakeland on the board in the third.  Jefferson Valladares doubled home a run in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-1, but Lakeland came back with two more in the bottom of the fifth.  Fort Myers did not put together a threat the rest of the game.

Batters:  Fort Myers had just three hits.

Pitchers:  Dylan Questad struck out six in 4.2 innings, but allowed four runs on four hits and three walks.  Tyler Stasiowski struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and a walk.  Ivran Romero pitched a perfect inning.

Opponents:  Wenceel Perez was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.  Lucas Elissalt struck out six in 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Luke Stofel struck out five in four innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Stats:  Poncho Ruiz, .317/.855 OPS.  Ivran Romero, 2.29 ERA.

Record:  Fort Myers is 19-23, in sixth (last) place, 5.5 games behind Lakeland.

FCL TWINS 10, FCL PIRATES 2 AT TWINS

Estuar Suero singled home a run in the top of the third to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead, but Ariel Castro answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to put the Twins in the lead to stay.  Ramiro Dominguez hit a three-run double in the fourth to make it 6-2.  The Twins added a run in the fifth and Castro homered again in the seventh.  This was another nine-inning game, and that gave time for Javier Roman to hit a two-run homer in the eighth.  Possibly it's just a matter of agreement between the teams involved whether they play seven or nine.

Batters:  Ariel Castro was 2-for-3 with two home runs, a walk, and three RBIs.  Javier Roman was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs.

Pitchers:  Christian Becerra struck out five in two innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks.  Melvin Rodriguez pitched four innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks with no strikeouts.  Mitch Mueller struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Ruddy Gomez struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Opponents:  Luke Scherrer was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.  Ronaldys Jimenez struck out three in two innings, giving up an unearned run on no hits and a walk.

Minor Details: Games of May 16

IOWA CUBS 12, ST. PAUL SAINTS 7 IN IOWA

Edouard Julien started the game with a home run and Jose Miranda hit an RBI double to give St. Paul a 2-0 lead.  Iowa rebounded with four in the bottom of the first.  St. Paul got one back in the second, but Owen Caissie hit a three-run single-plus-error in the third to make it 7-3 Iowa.  St. Paul came back with four in the fourth on two-run homers by Mickey Gasper and Emmanuel Rodriguez.  From there, though, it was all Iowa.  Matt Shaw hit a two-run homer in the fifth and the Cubs scored single runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth.

Batters:  Mike Ford was 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run.  Patrick Winkel was 2-for-5.  Edouard Julien was 1-for-2 with a home run, three walks, and two runs.  Mickey Gasper hit a two-run homer, his seventh.  Emmanuel Rodriguez hit a two-run homer, his third.

Pitchers:  Starter Tyler Beede lasted just 1.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks and striking out two.

Opponents:  Lots.  Matt Shaw was 3-for-5 with two home runs (his fifth and sixth), a walk, three runs, and three RBIs.  Jonathan Long was 3-for-5 with a home run (his fourth), two runs, and two RBIs.  Chase Strumpf was 3-for-5 with a home run (his eighth), two runs, and two RBIs.  Owen Caissie was 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.  Dixon Machado was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs, and an RBI.  It seems like it would be good luck to have five players in your lineup with three hits apiece.  James Triantos was 2-for-5 with a run.  Brooks Kriske struck out three and walked one in two shutout innings.

ARKANSAS TRAVELERS 10, WICHITA WIND SURGE 4 IN WICHITA

Jared Sundstrom hit a two-run homer in the top of the third to give Arkansas a 3-0 lead.  Ricardo Olivar hit a two-run double in a three-run third to tie the score.  Arkansas scored one in the fourth and Caleb Cali hit a two-run homer in the sixth to put the Travelers up 6-3.  Kyler Fedco homered in the bottom of the sixth, but Arkansas scored four in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

Batters:  Oddly, all nine Wind Surge batters had exactly one hit.  Kyler Fedco hit a home run, his sixth.

Pitchers:  Ricky Castro pitched 3.1 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and no walks and striking out four.  John Stankiewicz struck out four and walked two in two shutout innings.

Opponents:  Caleb Cali was 4-for-5 with a two-run homer (his second) and a double.  Bill Knight was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  Nick Raposo was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third) and a walk.  Victor Labrada was 2-for-5 with two runs.  Jimmy Kingsbury struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up two hits.

CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS 13, PEORIA CHIEFS 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Kaelen Culpepper hit a three-run homer in a four-run third to give Cedar Rapids a 4-0 lead.  Peoria scored two in the fifth, but Cedar Rapids came back with eight in the bottom of the fifth to put it out of reach.  Brandon Winokur hit a two-run homer, Jaime Ferrer hit a three-run homer, and Culpepper hit his second homer of the game in the inning.

Batters:  Kaelen Culpepper was 4-for-5 with two home runs (his third and fourth), three runs, and four RBIs.  Jaime Ferrer was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and two runs.  Danny De Andrade was 2-for-3 with a run.  Brandon Winokur was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer.

Pitchers:  Jeremy Lee pitched five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk and striking out three.  Kade Bragg struck out six in four shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opponents:  Joshua Baez was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Miguel Villaroel was 2-for-4 with a run.

FORT MYERS MIGHTY MUSSELS 9, JUPITER HAMMERHEADS 40 IN JUPITER

Jupiter scored three in the third, helped by three walks (two with the bases loaded), a balk, and a hit batsman.  Yasser Mercedes homered in the fourth to get Fort Myers on the board, but Jupiter got the run back in the fifth.  Fort Myers then scored one in the sixth and three in the seventh, with a two-run single by Daniel Pena putting the Mussels ahead 5-4.  Damuery Pena hit a two-run single in the eighth and Maddux Houghton hit a two-run homer in the ninth.

Batters:  Jefferson Valladares was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs.  Yasser Mercedes was 2-for-5 with a home run (his third) and two runs.  Dameury Pena was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  Daniel Pena was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  Maddux Houghton hit a two-run homer, his second.

Pitchers:  Dylan Questad struck out five in 2.2 innings, but allowed three runs on three hits and four walks.  Tyler Stasiowski struck out three in three innings, giving up an unearned run on one hit and one walk.  Zander Sechrist pitched 2.1 shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Hunter Hoopes struck out three and walked one in a scoreless inning.

FCL RED SOX 5, FCL TWINS 2 AT TWINS

The Red Sox scored one in the first, two in the second, and one in the fourth to build a 4-0 lead.  The Twins scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to cut the lead in half, but the Red Sox scored one more in the seventh and the Twins had no answer.

Batters:  No Twins had more than one hit.

Pitchers:  Matt Gabbert struck out four in three innings, but allowed three runs on six hits and a walk.  Christian Becerra pitched two innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits.

Opponents:  Gerardo Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.  Avinson Pinto was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI.  Enddy Azocar was 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and an RBI.  Yhoiker Fajardo pitched four shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.

Buffalo scored six in the first and led 12-1 after four.  Mickey Gasper was 4-for-5 with a home run, his fifth.  Emmanuel Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Starter Marco Raya pitched just one inning, allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk.

WICHITA WIND SURGE 5, NORTHWEST ARKANSAS NATURALS 3 IN NORTHWEST ARKANSAS

Jac Caglianone broke a scoreless tie with a three-run homer in the sixth.  But in the seventh, Kala'i Rosario hit a two-run homer and Andrew Cossetti hit a three-run homer to give Wichita the 5-3 victory.  Ben Ross was 2-for-4.  Rosario was 1-for-4 and the home run was his fourth.  Cossetti was 1-for-4 and the home run was his second.  Aaron Rozek pitched four innings, giving up three runs on four hits and no walks and striking out four.  Ricky Castro struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Jaylin Nowlin struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

BELOIT SKY CARP 8, CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Beloit scored five in the first and built an 8-0 lead through six.  Caden Kendle was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer (his second), a walk, and two runs.  Jose Salas was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run, and an RBI.  Gabriel Gonzalez was 2-for-5 with a double.  Starter Jose Olivares lasted just two-thirds of an inning, allowing five runs on three hits and two walks and striking out two.  Kade Bragg struck out four in 2.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on two walks.  Jacob Wosinski struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Kyle Hess pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits.

DUNEDIN BLUE JAYS 9, FORT MYERS MIGHTY MUSSELS 1 IN FORT MYERS

Dunedin scored two in the first and built a 4-0 lead before Fort Myers got its lone run in the third.  A three-run sixth put the game out of reach.  Damuery Pena was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Starter Michael Carpenter pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks and striking out two.  Tyler Stasiowski struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

FCL TWINS 2, FSL RED SOX 0 AT RED SOX

The Twins scored on an error in the third and on a balk in the fourth.  The pitching was the story, as three pitchers combined for a shutout.  Matt Gabbert pitched two perfect innings, striking out one.  Hendry Chivilli pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.  Mitch Mueller struck out five in three shutout innings, giving up one hit.

ST. PAUL SAINTS 3, COLUMBUS CLIPPERS 2 IN COLUMBUS (10 INNINGS)

Finally able to get a game in, the Saints decided to play a little extra to make it worth their while.  Petey Halpin singles home a run in the second and Will Brennan homered in the third to make it 2-0 Columbus.  But our own Will, Will Holland, homered in the fifth to get St. Paul on the board and Mike Ford singled home a run in the sixth to tie it 2-2.  It stayed there until the tenth, when a sacrifice fly plated Manfred Man Anthony Prato.  Columbus was retired in order in the bottom of the inning and the good guys won.  Columbus has twelve hits, but stranded thirteen and went 1-for-12 with men in scoring position.

Batters:  Ryan Fitzgerald was 2-for-4.  Will Holland hit a home run.

Keyber Rodriguez singled home a run in the first and tripled one home in the third to give Frisco a 2-0 lead.  Rubel Cespedes had an RBI single to get Wichita on the board.  It was all Frisco from there, however, as they got two in the sixth and Luis Mieses hit a two-run single in the eighth.  As Mr. Jinx used to say, "I hate those Mieses to pieces!"

Batters:  Tyler Dearden was 2-for-3.  Rubel Cespedes was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Pitchers:  Christian MacLeod pitched three innings, giving up two runs on five hits and no walks and striking out one.  John Stankiewicz struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings.

Carter Trice put the Cubs ahead in a trice, delivering a first-inning RBI single.  Kaelen Culpepper homered in the third to tie it 1-1 and Kevin Maitan doubled home a run in the fourth to give Cedar Rapids the lead.  The Kernels then scored five in the fifth on six singles to take control of the game.  Jose Salas hit a two-run double in the eighth.

Batters:  Khadim Diaw was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.  Nate Baez was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.  Kaelen Culpepper was 2-for-5 with a home run (his second) and two runs.

It started well.  Fort Myers took a 4-0 lead in the second on two-run homers by Miguel Briceno and Jefferson Valladares.  But Tampa matched them with a four-run third, took the lead with two in the fourth, added one more in the fifth, and put the game out of reach with a five-run seventh.  Each team made four errors, but Fort Myers went 2-for-17 with men in scoring position.  Twins Baseball!

Batters:  Jay Thomason was 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run.  Miguel Briceno was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.  Jefferson Valladares was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.

St. Paul scored two in the first, but it was all downhill from there.  They did not score again, and Columbus came back with three in the first, one in the second, and one in the fifth.  Anthony Prato was 2-for-3 with a double.  Cory Lewis struck out five in four innings, but allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks.

Tanner Schobel homered to lead off the game.  In the second, Tyler Dearden homered, Tanner Schobel hit a two-run homer, and Ricardo Olivar homered.  The two Frisco runs came in the seventh.  Schobel was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his third and fourth), a double, and three RBIs.  Olivar was 2-for-5 with a home run, his second.  Dearden's home run was his second.  Pierson Ohl struck out five in four shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks.  Jaylin Nowlin struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  John Stankiewicz pitched a perfect inning.

CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS 8, SOUTH BEND CUBS 7 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

South Bend scored four in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead, but Cedar Rapids came back with three in the fifth and three in the sixth.  Kevin Maitan was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, and two runs.  Nate Baez hit a home run, his second.  Brandon Winokur had two RBIs.  Alejandro Hidalgo pitched five innings, allowing six runs on six hits and two walks and striking out four.  Jacob Wosinski struck out three in two perfect innings.

JUPITER HAMMERHEADS 5, FORT MYERS MIGHTY MUSSELS 1 IN FORT MYERS

Jacob Jenkins-Cowart hit a two-run double in the third.  Jose Rodriguez singled home the lone Fort Myers run in the sixth to cut the lead to 2-1, but Jesus Hernandez hit a two-run triple in a three-run eighth to give Jupiter control of the game.  Poncho Ruiz was 2-for-3 with a double.  Adrian Bohorquez pitched 2.2 innings, giving up two runs on two hits and three walks and striking out two.  Cole Peschi struck out eight in 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up five hits and two walks.  Kade Bragg struck out four and walked one in 1.1 scoreless innings.

Aided by three walks, Indianapolis put up a three-spot in the first inning.  Undaunted, St. Paul tied it with three in the second, as Patrick Winkel hit a two-run homer and Anthony Prato followed with a solo shot.  They took the lead in the fourth when Carson McCusker singled and later scored on a ground out.  The lead was short-lived, however, as Indianapolis scored another three in the fifth.  They were once again aided by walks, two of them this time, plus a wild pitch.  Jeferson Morales singled home a run in the fifth to cut the margin to 6-5, but that was as close as the Saints would come.  They got the tying run to third in the seventh and Prato hit a leadoff double in the ninth, but it was for naught.  St. Paul was 1-for-13 with men in scoring position.

It wasn't all they got, of course.  In fact, they scored another in the first, on a Kala'i Rosario double.  They added four in the third, as Ricardo Olivar led off the inning with a home run and later in the inning Noah Cardenas hit a three-run homer.  The final run came in the seventh on a Jake Rucker RBI single.

Batters:  Noah Cardenas was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and two runs.  Rubel Cespedes was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Ricardo Olivar was 1-for-5 with a home run, his second.

A pair of errors gave Wisconsin a run in the second.  Cedar Rapids came back with two in the bottom of the second on RBI singles by Kaelen Culpepper and Kyle DeBarge.

It stayed 2-1 until the sixth, when Tayden Hall drove in Hedbert Perez with a double.  Perez homered in the eighth to give Wisconsin a 3-2 lead.  They got an insurance run in the ninth on another pair of errors and a wild pitch.  The four Kernels errors cost them the game, although going 2-for-12 with men in scoring position didn't help, either.

Yohander Martinez homered in the third to start the scoring.  In the fourth, Angel Del Rosario walked with two out and stole second and third, Maddux Houghton walked and stole second, and a throwing error brought them both home to make the score 3-0.  Dante Nori singled home a run in the fifth to get Clearwater on the board, but Fort Myers responded with two in the sixth.  Del Rosario tripled and scored on a single by Maddux Houghton, who in turn scored on a Peyton Carr double.  Clearwater came back with two in the seventh and had the tying run on base with two out, but their last seven batters were retired.

Springfield just eased out to a lead, scoring one in the first on a force out, one in the second on a Chase Davis RBI single, and two in the third, one a Dakota Harris RBI single and the other on a double play.  With the score 4-0, Wichita finally got on the board in the sixth on a run-scoring double by Rubel Cespedes.  Each team would score once more, with Miguel Ugueto knocking in a run with a single in the eighth and Tanner Schobel bringing one home with a single in the ninth.  Wichita had the bases loaded with two out, but a ground out ended the game.

It looked good early.  Nate Baez drove in two with a single and Kaelen Culpepper followed with an RBI single to make it 3-0 after two.  Wisconsin responded with a Matthew Wood grand slam in the third to take a 4-3 lead.  Danny De Andrade singled home a run in the bottom of the third, and we were tied 4-4.  It stayed there until the eighth, when run scoring singles by Yhoswar Garcia and Eduardo Garcia put Wisconsin up 6-4.  They then put the game away with a seven-run ninth.  They had a triple, a double, two singles, three walks, a hit batsman, and a balk in the inning.

FORT MYERS MIGHTY MUSSELS 1, BRADENTON MARAUDERS 0 IN FORT MYERS

Twins' affiliates played one game, and they scored one run, and it was enough.  Fort Myers loaded the bases with two out in the first on three walks, but did not score.  Bradenton got men to second and third in the fifth on a hit batsman, a walk, and a ground out, but did not score.  Those were the only men to reach third base until the seventh, when Peyton Carr led off with a walk, went to second on a pickoff error, and scored on a pair of ground outs.  Twins baseball!

Fort Myers had five hits and drew seven walks, but managed to score only one unearned run.  But again, it was enough, as four Fort Myers pitchers shut out Bradenton on four hits and two walks.

Batters:  Jose Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Pitchers:  Jakob Hall pitched three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out two.  Jacob Kisting pitched three shutout innings and only allowed a walk.  Devin Kirby pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out one.  Kade Bragg struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

OMAHA STORM CHASERS 7, ST. PAUL SAINTS 5 IN ST. PAUL

Diego Cartaya homered in the second to give St. Paul a 3-0 lead.  The Storm Chasers stormed back with four in the third, with two scoring on a Joey Wiemer single.  It went to 5-3 in the top of the fourth, but Ryan Fitzgerald hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to tie it 5-5.  It stayed there until the sixth, when Harold Castro hit a two-run homer that turned out to be the margin of victory.

Batters:  Mike Ford was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Ryan Fitzgerald was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Diego Cartaya was 1-for-4 with a home run.

Pitchers:  Starter Randy Dobnak pitched five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks and striking out two.  Jacob Bosiokovic pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opponents:  Harold Castro was 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs, and four RBIs.  John Rave was 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs.  Joey Wiemer was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

WICHITA WIND SURGE 8, MIDLAND ROCKHOUNDS 4 IN WICHITA

Tanner Schobel homered in the first to give the Wind Surge a 1-0 lead, but Midland came back with three in the third.  Wichita came back in the fifth with four runs, getting doubles from Dalton ShuffieldRubel Cespedes, and Jorel Ortega.  Shane McGuire homered in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4, but Cespedes hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Batters:  Rubel Cespedes was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer (his second) and two runs.  Tanner Schobel was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second), a walk, two runs, and two RBIs.  Dalton Shuffield was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Jorel Ortega was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Tyler Dearden was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitchers:  Starter Connor Prielipp struck out five in 2.2 innings, but allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits.  He did not walk anyone.  Aaron Rozek pitched 5.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks and striking out five.  John Stankiewicz struck out two in a scoreless inning.

CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS 7, BELOIT SKY CARP 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Cedar Rapids scored single runs in the first four innings.  Beloit countered with a three-run homer by Eric Rataczak in the second, leaving the score 4-3 Kernels.  Cedar Rapids then scored three in the sixth, highlighted by an RBI triple by Kyle DeBarge, to put the game out of reach.

Batters:  Kyle DeBarge was 3-for-5 with a triple and three runs.  Caden Kendle was 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run, and an RBI.

Pitchers:  Starter Alejandro Hidalgo struck out eight in four innings, but allowed three runs on two hits and three walks.  Spencer Bengard struck out five in four innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks.  Paulshawn Pasqualotto pitched a perfect inning.

Opponents:  Jay Beshears was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Eric Rataczak was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer.

FORT MYERS MIGHTY MUSSELS 2, TAMPA TARPONS 1 IN FORT MYERS

Fort Myers scored on a wild pitch in the first and Tampa scored on a double steak of second and home in the second.  In the fourth, Angel Del Rosario delivered an RBI single.  The pitching took it from there, as four Mighty Mussels pitchers limited Tampa to one run despite allowing seven hits and five walks.  It helped that they struck out eleven.  Tampa stranded twelve runners and went 1-for-12 with men in scoring position.

Batters:  Angel Del Rosario was 1-for-4 with an RBI, the only RBI for either team.

Pitchers:  Dasan Hill struck out six in 3.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks.  Jason Doktorcyzk struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Kade Bragg pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out one.  Tyler Stasiowski pitched a scoreless inning, walking one.
