ST. PAUL SAINTS 11, IOWA CUBS 8 IN IOWA

Another slugfest, but this time the Saints came marching in winners.  Jeferson Morales homered in the first inning to give St. Paul a 1-0 lead.  Christian Franklin led off the bottom of the first with a home run to tie it, and Jonathan Long's RBI single made it 2-1 Iowa.  Iowa added one in the second on a sacrifice fly and scored two in the third on a Ben Cowles double and another sacrifice fly to make it 5-1.

St. Paul came back with five in the fourth on RBI singles by Carson McCusker, Armando Alvarez, and Anthony Prato and a two-run double by Ryan Fitzgerald.  McCusker hit a three-run homer in the fifth to give the Saints a Dolly Parton lead of 9 to 5.  Iowa scored two in the sixth on a Moises Ballesteros RBI single and a bases-loaded walk, but the Saints got the runs back in the eighth on Prato's RBI single and a run-scoring ground out.  Iowa got one back in the ninth on a Greg Allen RBI single but did not get the tying run up to bat.

Batters:  Anthony Prato was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.  Carson McCusker was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fifth) a walk, two runs, and four RBIs.  Yunior Severino was 2-for-5 with two runs.  Jeferson Morales was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second) and two walks.

Pitchers:  Randy Dobnak pitched four innings, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks and striking out four.  Huascar Ynoa pitched 1.1 scoreless innings despite walking three.

Opponents:  Moises Ballesteros was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.  Kevin Alcantara was 2-for-5 with two runs.  Christian Franklin was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second), two walks, and two runs.  Riley Martin struck out three and walked one in two shutout innings.

Stats:  Anthony Prato is batting .316.  Carson McCusker is batting .306 with an OPS of 1.098.  Ryan Fitzgerald is batting .304 with an OPS of .919.  Anthony Misiewicz has an ERA of 2.35.  Ryan Jensen has an ERA of 2.84

Record:  St. Paul is 7-9, in ninth place, 5.5 games behind Columbus.

TULSA DRILLERS 7, WICHITA WIND SURGE 6 IN TULSA

Wichita is not enjoying living on Tulsa time, as they dropped another to the Drillers.  It started well, as a Rubel Cespedes RBI single was followed by a two-run homer by Kala'i Rosario, giving Wichita a 3-0 lead.  Damon Keith homered in the second to cut the lead to 3-1, but in the fourth Aaron Sabato hit a two-run homer and Tyler Dearden followed with a solo shot to make it 6-1 Wind Surge.

That was as good as it would get, though.  Jose Ramos homered in the sixth to make it 6-2, and Ramos struck again in the seventh with a grand slam, tying the score.  It stayed tied until the bottom of the ninth, when singles by Taylor Young, Chris Newell, and Yeiner Fernandez produced the deciding run.

Batters:  Aaron Sabato was 4-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Kala'i Rosario was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his second.  Tyler Dearden was 2-for-4 with a home run.

Pitchers:  Aaron Rozek struck out eight in five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and no walks.  Joel Cesar pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out one.

Opponents:  Jose Ramos was 3-for-5 with two home runs (his third and fourth) and five RBIs.  Damon Keith was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Yeiner Fernandez was 2-for-4.  Jeisson Cabrera struck out four and walked one in two shutout innings.  Antonio Knowles pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits.  Jorge Benitez pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out one.

Stats:  Aaron Sabato is batting .500 with an OPS of 1.404.  Tyler Dearden is batting .400 with an OPS of .983.  Kyler Fedco is batting .357 with an OPS of 1.264.  Joel Cesar has an ERA of 3.86.

Record:  Wichita is 6-7, in fourth place, three games behind Arkansas.

CEDAR RAPIDS AT PEORIA

It was suspended in the top of the fourth inning with Cedar Rapids ahead 8-3.  Peoria scored the first two runs on a Ryan Campos first-inning two-run homer.  Misael Urbina hit a three-run homer in the second to put Cedar Rapids up 3-2.  Michael Curialle tripled and scored in the bottom of the second to tie it 3-3.  The Kernels scored three more in the third on RBI singles by Khadim Diaw and Nate Baez and an RBI double by Kevin Maitan.  They added two more in the fourth on a double by Baez.  Alejandro Hidalgo pitched all three innings for Cedar Rapids.  It appears that the game has been scheduled to be completed today.

BRADENTON MARAUDERS 6, FORT MYERS MIGHTY MUSSELS 1 IN FORT MYERS

Bradenton jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second, with two runs scoring on an error and a third on a Carlos Caro single.  They added a run in the seventh on another error, Derek Berg hit a solo homer in the eighth, and another error allowed a run to score in the ninth.  The lone Fort Myers run came in the eighth on a Jose Rodriguez home run.  It was a "more errors than hits" game for Fort Myers, as they had two hits and made four errors.

Batters:  Jose Rodriguez was 1-for-2 with a home run (his second) and a walk.

Pitchers:  Jason Doktorczyk struck out ten in five innings, giving up three unearned runs on four hits and no walks.  Michael Tonkin struck out three in two innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits.  Of the six Bradenton runs, only one was earned.

Opponents:  Derek Berg was 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs.  Carlos Caro was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Matt Ager struck out three and walked two in three shutout innings, giving up no hits.  Victor Cabreja struck out four and walked one in four shutout innings, giving up no hits.

Stats:  Poncho Ruiz is batting .357 with an OPS of .864.  Jay Thomason has an OPS of .939.  Byron Chourio has an OPS of .825.  Jason Doktorczyk has an ERA of 1.54.  Michael Tonkin has an ERA of 0.00.

Record:  Fort Myers is 6-7, tied for third with Dunedin and Lakeland, two games behind Clearwater.

IOWA CUBS 6, ST. PAUL SAINTS 2 IN IOWA

St. Paul scored one in the first, but Greg Allen hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Chase Strumpf hit a grand slam in the eighth.  Ryan Fitzgerald was 2-for-2 with two hit-by-pitches.  Mike Ford hit a home run, his second.  Marco Raya struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk.  Alex Speas pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Richard Lovelady struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

TULSA DRILLERS 5, WICHITA WIND SURGE 3 IN TULSA

Aaron Brocho hit a two-run homer in the fourth and added two more in the fifth.  Kyler Fedco hit a three-run homer in the sixth to cut the margin to 4-3, but that was as good as it got.  Tulsa added one in the seventh.  Fedco was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer.  Ben Ross was 2-for-4 with a run.  Trent Baker struck out seven in 4.2 innings, but allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk.  Mike Paredes struck out four in 3.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and a walk.

PEORIA CHIEFS 9, CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS 4 IN PEORIA

Peoria scored four in the fifth and led 7-0 and after six.  Cedar Rapids scored three in the seventh but did not get back into the game.  Kyle DeBarge was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs.  Charlee Soto struck out four in four innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk.  Juan Mendez pitched 1.2 innings, giving up one hit.

BRADENTON MARAUDERS 6, FORT MYERS MIGHTY MUSSELS 3 IN FORT MYERS

Fort Myers took a 2-0 lead in the fifth, but Bradenton scored three in the sixth, one in the seventh, and two in the eighth.  Jay Thomason was 2-for-3 with a home run (his second), a walk, and two runs.  Byron Chourio was 2-for-3.  Daniel Pena was 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and an RBI.  Eli Jones struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

OMAHA STORM CHASERS 7, ST. PAUL SAINTS 5 IN ST. PAUL

Diego Cartaya homered in the second to give St. Paul a 3-0 lead.  The Storm Chasers stormed back with four in the third, with two scoring on a Joey Wiemer single.  It went to 5-3 in the top of the fourth, but Ryan Fitzgerald hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to tie it 5-5.  It stayed there until the sixth, when Harold Castro hit a two-run homer that turned out to be the margin of victory.

Batters:  Mike Ford was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Ryan Fitzgerald was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Diego Cartaya was 1-for-4 with a home run.

Pitchers:  Starter Randy Dobnak pitched five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks and striking out two.  Jacob Bosiokovic pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opponents:  Harold Castro was 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs, and four RBIs.  John Rave was 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs.  Joey Wiemer was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Record:  St. Paul is 5-6, in eighth place, 4.5 games behind Columbus.

WICHITA WIND SURGE 8, MIDLAND ROCKHOUNDS 4 IN WICHITA

Tanner Schobel homered in the first to give the Wind Surge a 1-0 lead, but Midland came back with three in the third.  Wichita came back in the fifth with four runs, getting doubles from Dalton Shuffield, Rubel Cespedes, and Jorel Ortega.  Shane McGuire homered in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4, but Cespedes hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Batters:  Rubel Cespedes was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer (his second) and two runs.  Tanner Schobel was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second), a walk, two runs, and two RBIs.  Dalton Shuffield was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Jorel Ortega was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Tyler Dearden was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitchers:  Starter Connor Prielipp struck out five in 2.2 innings, but allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits.  He did not walk anyone.  Aaron Rozek pitched 5.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks and striking out five.  John Stankiewicz struck out two in a scoreless inning.

Opponents:  Colby Halter was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Erubiel Angeles was 2-for-4.  Shane McGuire was 1-for-4 with a home run.

Record:  Wichita is 5-3, tied for second with Arkansas, 1.5 games behind Springfield.

CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS 7, BELOIT SKY CARP 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Cedar Rapids scored single runs in the first four innings.  Beloit countered with a three-run homer by Eric Rataczak in the second, leaving the score 4-3 Kernels.  Cedar Rapids then scored three in the sixth, highlighted by an RBI triple by Kyle DeBarge, to put the game out of reach.

Batters:  Kyle DeBarge was 3-for-5 with a triple and three runs.  Caden Kendle was 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run, and an RBI.

Pitchers:  Starter Alejandro Hidalgo struck out eight in four innings, but allowed three runs on two hits and three walks.  Spencer Bengard struck out five in four innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks.  Paulshawn Pasqualotto pitched a perfect inning.

Opponents:  Jay Beshears was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Eric Rataczak was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer.

Record:  Cedar Rapids is 5-3, tied for second with Beloit, one game behind Quad Cities.

FORT MYERS MIGHTY MUSSELS 2, TAMPA TARPONS 1 IN FORT MYERS

Fort Myers scored on a wild pitch in the first and Tampa scored on a double steak of second and home in the second.  In the fourth, Angel Del Rosario delivered an RBI single.  The pitching took it from there, as four Mighty Mussels pitchers limited Tampa to one run despite allowing seven hits and five walks.  It helped that they struck out eleven.  Tampa stranded twelve runners and went 1-for-12 with men in scoring position.

Batters:  Angel Del Rosario was 1-for-4 with an RBI, the only RBI for either team.

Pitchers:  Dasan Hill struck out six in 3.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks.  Jason Doktorcyzk struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Kade Bragg pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and a walk and striking out one.  Tyler Stasiowski pitched a scoreless inning, walking one.

Opponents:  Tyler Wilson and Dillon Lewis were each 2-for-4.  Jack Sokol struck out two and walked one in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Record:  Fort Myers is 4-4, tied for second with Tampa, one game behind Clearwater.

COLUMBUS CLIPPERS 3, ST. PAUL SAINTS 2 IN COLUMBUS (10 INNINGS)

Once again the Saints scored two early, and once again it was enough until it wasn't.  In the third, Emmanuel Rodriguez singled home a run and a bases-loaded walk brought home another.  The Clippers got one back in the sixth, but it was still 2-1 going to the bottom of the ninth.  Angel Martinez led off the inning with a double and scored on a Petey Halpin single to tie it.  The Saints failed to score the Manfred Man in the tenth, and it cost them as Will Brennan, who apparently kills the Twins even when he's in the minors, singled home the deciding run.  The Saints stranded twelve men and were 1-for-10 with men in scoring position.  They drew ten walks, but could manage only five hits.

Batters:  Ryan Fitzgerald was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Pitchers:  Randy Dobnak pitched five shutout innings, giving up one hit and four walks and striking out three.  Travis Adams struck out three in three innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk.

Opposition:  Will Brennan was 2-for-5 with an RBI.  Ryan Webb struck out five in 4.1 scoreless innings of relief, giving up two hits and walking three.

St. Paul is 2-4, tied for eighth with Indianapolis, three games behind Columbus.

SPRINGFIELD CARDINALS 5, WICHITA WIND SURGE 0 IN SPRINGFIELD (GAME 1)

Springfield scored three in the second on a double and three singles.  Wichita managed only one hit, a two-out single by Rubel Cespedes in the second inning.

Batters:  None.

Pitchers:  Starter Aaron Rozek struck out five in four innings, but allowed four runs on six hits and a walk.  Jaylin Nowlin pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition:  Jacob Buchberger was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.  Max Rajcic pitched five shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out four.

WICHITA WIND SURGE 10, SPRINGFIELD CARDINALS 2 IN SPRINGFIELD (GAME 2)

Apparently the Wind Surge saved all its offense for the second game.  They scored six runs in the second inning on a walk. three singles, a double, and a two-run homer by Kala'i Rosario.  They added two more in the third, aided by three walks, and were never threatened.

Batters:  Tanner Schobel was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run, and four RBIs.  Ricardo Olivar was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Kala'i Rosario was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Ben Ross was 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk.

Pitchers:  Trent Baker struck out three in three shutout innings, also walking three but allowing no hits.  Joel Cesar pitched a perfect inning, striking out one.  John Stankiewicz pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits and striking out one.

Opposition:  Chase Davis was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Record:  Wichita is 1-2, tied for third with Arkansas, two games behind Northwest Arkansas.

WISCONSIN TIMBER RATTLERS 7, CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS 6 IN WISCONSIN

It was another see-saw game, as the Kernels led 2-0, trailed 3-2, led 4-3, and trailed 5-4.  They tied it 5-5 in the seventh on doubles by Billy Amick and Gabriel Gonzalez, but Blake Burke's RBI double in the bottom of the seventh gave the lead back to Wisconsin and Hedbert Perez' RBI triple gave them an insurance run.  They needed it, because Gonzalez led off the ninth with a homer, but Cedar Rapids could not get the tying run on base.

Batters:  Billy Amick was 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles, a walk, three runs, and an RBI.  Gabriel Gonzalez was 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, and three RBIs.  Kaelen Culpepper was 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, and a run.  Kyle DeBarge was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Pitchers:  Starter Tanner Hall struck out six in five innings, but allowed five runs on five hits and a walk.  Juan Mendez struck out two and walked one in a scoreless inning.

Opposition:  Blake Burke was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs, and three RBIs.  Yophery Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, a walk, and three runs.  Jadher Areinamo was 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.  Jeferson Figueroa pitched two shutout innings, walking three and striking out one.

Record:  Cedar Rapids is 2-1, in third place, one game behind Beloit and Quad Cities.

PALM BEACH CARDINALS 11, FORT MYERS MIGHTY MUSSELS 10 IN PALM BEACH

The Mussels led 2-1 through five, but Josh Kross hit a two-run triple in a four-run sixth to give Palm Beach the lead.  Won-Bin Cho hit a two-run homer in the seventh to make it 7-2, and it looked like Fort Myers was done.  But no, they came back to score six runs in the eighth to take an 8-7 lead.  They had only two hits in the inning, but took advantage of five walks and three errors.  In the ninth, Poncho Ruiz followed three walks with a two-run single, and the Mussels were looking good with a 10-7 lead.  But an error and two walks loaded the bases with none out in the ninth.  A wild pitch scored one and a ground out plated another.  With two out, Cade McGee hit a walk-off two run homer to end the game in favor of the Cardinals.

Batters:  Poncho Ruiz was 2-for-4 with a walk, a run, and an RBI.  Daniel Pena was 1-for-4 with a home run and a walk.  Dameury Pena was 1-for-2 with a home run.

I don't know how much I'll do with this feature this season.  It would not be accurate to say that I'm busier in retirement than I was when I was working, but the thing is that I'm busy with different things, and for the most part, those different things don't involve sitting in front of a computer screen.

So, there will be days when the feature does not appear at all.  There will be other days when it only covers some of the games, rather than all of them.  We'll see.

I hope you'll read it when it's here, but the truth is that I really do this for myself more than you.  I like keeping up with the Twins' minor league teams, and this is a way for me to do it.  I hope you'll enjoy it, too, when it's here.

And now, on to the game.

ST. PAUL SAINTS 11, INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS 0 IN ST. PAUL

It's hard to open better than that.  The Saints scored early and often, getting two in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the sixth, and three in the eighth.  They did not hit any home runs, but the had eighteen hits, including four doubles and a triple.  They also drew seven walks.  Eight players had at least two hits.  The pitching was equally impressive, with four pitchers throwing a combined four-hit shutout.

Batters:  Emmanuel Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.  Jair Camargo was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, and two RBIs.  Ryan Fitzgerald was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.  Jeferson Morales was 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk, two runs, and three RBIs.  Armando Alvarez was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Austin Martin was 2-for-5 with a walk.  Yunior Severino was 2-for-5.  Luke Keaschall was 2-for-6.

Pitchers:  David Festa pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks and striking out four.  Scott Blewett struck out two and walked one in two shutout innings.  Kyle Bischoff pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.  Kody Funderburk struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition:  Hunter Stratton pitched a scoreless inning despite giving up three hits.

Record:  St. Paul is 1-0 and tied for first.
