  1. Flood update: I think we have gotten all the people from our church taken care of, although I'm going to do another check today to be sure. So far, three families from our church have been forced to evacuate their homes and one other has chosen to do so. Others have their things packed and are ready to go at a moment's notice. The good news is that we had enough advance notice that they were all able to get out, to find places to go, and to find places for their possessions.

If the information we have is correct, our parsonage should be all right. The water level is supposed to stay three feet below the bottom of our basement. We've moved all our stuff up from the basement, and are having the drains plugged and a sump pump put in, but that's as much as we're doing for now.

Assuming all the people from our church are taken care of, I will probably be filling sandbags after church is over. Your continuing prayers are appreciated.

    1. your congregation sounds lucky to have you at the helm. best wishes from myself as well.

  2. I'm watching the French Open final. Now granted, I don't watch a ton of tennis but does anyone prefer Nadal to Federer?

    1. I can't answer for other citizens, but I certainly prefer Roger to Rafa. I fear that today's loss may signify an end of sorts for Federer.

  3. I saw the latest X-Men film yesterday. I got my money's worth. I didnt feel that way after watching Hangover II. Had some good laughs, but not 8 bucks worth of laughs.

  4. Man of the people: Torii flies into the stands

Hunter's dead sprint brought him near Anaheim's short wall in the right-field corner, which he ended up tumbling over in an impressive but unsuccessful effort to snag the ball. The result left him empty-handed and instead on top of a Yankees fan as he disappeared behind the fence for a few seconds.

    1. Wow. Had he succeeded, that could have surpassed Buehrle.
If you're Torii, you've gotta go for that. Short of winning a pennant, that's his bid for immortality.

  5. I've got a feeling that we are going to have an awfully quiet game log today.

  6. Stribbers are everywhere! From the front page of today's SacBee sports section, a quote from the online comments section (what a GREAT use of newsprint!!!!!111one111!!!!)

Go after Dwight Howard. Trade the 7th pick, Omri Casspi and some future draft picks. Howard and DeMarcus Cousins would be like Tim Duncan and David Robinson.

Uh. Yeah. That'll happen. Maybe trade Beno Udrih straight up for Derrick Rose while you are at it.

    1. If the Wolves offer the second pic (5 better than kings) and Darko. Who say no?1?1111!

  7. I just got a smart phone. Any tips for making it easier to read content here? The columns are more narrow than they are on a computer, but I still have to scroll. Do sites need to be optimized for mobile browsing or is there something I can do on my side?

      1. That's what I'm using - definitely better than the standard version, but is it expected to need to scroll left and right? I was hoping it would automatically fit to the width of my screen.

    1. I've always kinda liked Jake. Too bad he's made of glass and wet tissue paper.

  8. the Twins are now 15-22 on the road (37 games) compared to 6-15 at home (21 games) and now another roadie to Cleveland. jeepers.

    1. Yes indeed. The unfortunate consequence of group shots is that someone else has to take the picture, but here we are:

      I'll try have a full write-up tomorrow.

        1. freakin' hot, though. a lighter material would have been more appreciated.

I think I need to touch up this photo; it's a little too dark

[EDIT: Okay, I lightened it. much better]

          1. freakin' hot, though. a lighter material would have been more appreciated.

That's why I ditched the Lew Ford jersey. Even then, a navy blue t-shirt wasn't the greatest idea.

      1. 6 foot 5 - I like to think I have the ideal hockey player's build.

A good time was had by all (at least in the Lawrence contingent), we managed to stay in the shade for most of the game, which made things quite a bit more tolerable.

Thanks to Rhu_Ru for organizing this, and for picking a game the Twins won.

        1. You forgot to put the word organizing in quotes.

Any credit for the win should go to the MLB schedule makers for scheduling this game for on a Sunday. So, do we try again next year? Anyone else going to show?

          1. I'll be there for sure...no bar exam next summer - I have at least 2 shots at it before then!

          2. I have no idea where I'll be living this time next year. If I'm still near KC, I'm definitely in. If I've moved farther way, less so.

    2. great pics, Andrew. Almost like being on the field. I look forward to the writeup.

oh, and I did not know that Lexi wore shin guards under his socks. Interesting.

        1. two bad possessions at the end there for Dirk. First, the throw-away, then a mediocre shot at the buzzer. Dallas had its chances. Miami was trying hard to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

    1. There is a reason why I'm a fan of the NBA. This post-season has been absolutely sublime. Last night, a tough loss for Dallas, but wow, what an exciting game.
