Game 93: Royals at Twins

Felipe Paulino vs. Brian Duensing

The Royals may have finally found a good one in Paulino. He's averaging nearly a strikeout an inning and has kept his walk rate low, although he's been rather hittable. Paulino has 24 strikeouts his last three starts but has somehow managed to give up 29 hits so either he's been pretty unlucky, or he has good stuff but has had trouble with mistake pitches.

I like throwing a lefty against the Royals. As long as Duensing doesn't let Billy Butler beat him, he should be OK.

The Twins need to take advantage of playing the Royals at home. Splitting a series with them would be pretty disappointing. GO TWINS!!!!

  1. Testing posting via iPhone. Got the world cup game on and enjoying MLB free preview for the Twins.

    1. I've been hesitant to pull the trigger on purchasing the MLB radio droid app. It kind of annoys me to have to pay again for the service, but I guess they have to recover costs for the app development somehow.

        1. With far more swear words than you might think possible in such few characters.

  2. Gordo right before the single: "Mauer just three for nine so far in the series."

    Me: uhh. "Just"??

      1. Well, Dick compared the two by saying they were the veterans on the roster before the kids took over and starting contending. Turns out Kelly was not on the 1999 Twins though. Can't fact check everything.

  3. Dammit, Dunce, finish someone off. I am not in a mood to see that much of the bullpen today.

  4. Okay, the '91 bobblehead set is going to be $391. That is too rich for my blood.

    1. Yeah, I don't know about that price. I feel like I represent the exact target audience, and I couldn't imagine spending that much on it.

      1. Maybe, MAYBE, I will make the purchase and up the price for a future ebay transaction. I will need permission for that purchase though-- which I seriously doubt I will get.

        1. If you got permission to gamble against Jeter, which is the single most un-American act imaginable, how could you not get permission for this??

      1. Rhu, did I ever tell you that the Razor Shines card you sent me comes with me every time I sit down to write? I'm not a superstitious man, but I'm pretty sure the card's become my muse.

        1. Ha! Well, excellent - Razor as a muse? I like it!

Each season for the past three seasons, I've had a previous year (non-Twins) baseball card sitting by my work computer: Mets Carlos Gomez, Sox Joe Crede, and Sox Jim Thome. Never got a chance this season, and maybe that's why they started out so poorly?

  5. friggin' hot here today. I know a few people going to see U2 at Busch this evening - it's going to be miserable. Midnight tonight is supposed to be 80F and 80% humidity.

          1. "Pop" and "Zooropa" are things?

I thought they broke up after "Rattle and Hum"????

  6. I just don't understand Casilla. Is he a major leaguer or not? Do they make 'em much streakier than he is?

Oh well, I'll just enjoy the ride.

      1. At this point, I think he'd be satisfied with one in a row, yeah.

I'm torn. I always liked Dunn, so I'm bummed for him, but you know...White Sox and all...

  7. I would have preferred the stolen base there. But I'll take another pussy single, please.

oh, crikey. IBB again for Barry Mauer.

    1. After ball 3 of that at-bat, I heard the broadcasters say "oh wow." and realized I had it one the Royals feed so I switched it over to the Twins feed and was immediately treated to a crushed tater.

    1. That was really far, but no where near 490 feet. The right-center corner is 411, and this was a high, but not very far home run. I think 440-450.

  8. I am so tempted to take the bar exam. With an actual beer, instead of that barley p!ss. Super cold!!!

    1. I'm currently taking the bar exam with some more of the Blue Moon pack. Seriously, this Pale is the blandest beer I have ever had.

The Honey Wheat, however, is rather tasty.

      1. Yep. Francoeur is the perfect lefty killer. Plus he has passable defense in the corners.

      2. so you are saying that he's Cuddy??? Does he swing hopelessly at sliders a foot off the plate too/

              1. Oof, good call and sorry Mags. (as sorry as one could be as a salt wife of Hope Solo)

    1. Man, it does not seem like that is something that should be happening. The US really should have won about 3-1.

    1. Even the screencap doesn't do it justice, as awesome as it is; Delmon was falling backward, like he'd been struck. It was incredible.

  9. oh oh, and horray..via twitter

    LaVelleNeal
Baker to DL. Plouffe to Rochester. Chuck James, Scott Diamond called up!

      1. Well, that's about 30% less awful than your initial update, but Baker being gone- that sucks.

    1. An optimist would say that Baker's only missing tomorrow's start, since he's eligible to come off the DL after CLE series (hasn't pitched since 7/5).

If he couldn't go tomorrow, better to get someone up from AAA for the doubleheader.

(Of course, he could be injured and out for a while as well, I haven't a clue)

  10. Since Mrs. Runner, Runner daughter, and I went out to get frozen yogurt on National Ice Cream Day this evening, I was regaling them with Thome's HR, and mentioned "Thome is my homey." Runner daughter replies, "That so needs to be a t-shirt." πŸ˜‰
